Best part of the movie is that it was too expensive to use blanks in the M60 scene. So they used real bullets and blew the puppets away.
no they were blanks but they did far more damage than expected. IT WAS A REAL M16 THO😊
Peter Jackson has a sick sense of humour. I love it.
OMFG ... we watched this constantly in my first sharehouse. And although I think it's somehow scarred me to a degree ... how ... could it not? ... there's a deep sense of nostalgia involved. My favourite line will still always be Trevor the Rat's "You may be Wobert to your friends, but you're fly shit to me .... piss off."
"Thanks for ruining my childhood!" was the most common reaction I got when showing this movie to friends. It was 50/50 - people either loved or HATED this movie. Personally, I fuckin love it! I was so excited the day my DVD came in the mail. Eventually I made the mistake of lending it to my downstairs neighbors, who "lost" that copy.
when i was younger, a local art house cinema place would have wonderful double features, "dead alive" and "meet the feebles" was often one of the double features. ....its a lot of fun seeing on the big screen, with a bunch of people.
"Dead Alive", I don't think I'll ever get used to that recut and rebranded version. It will always be the uncut original "Braindead" to me, lol
Glad to see you finally review this film. Its quite the experience lol. And the Sodomy song always gets me laughing. Great work guys.
Thankyou lads for reviewing this NZ classic, Hope you both are doing well and as always great review! Oh also do you think you will review The Sadness at some stage?
I'd love to see them review The Untold Story (1992) or Ebola Syndrome (1996) Iain's little head would explode lmao.
Iain's reaction at 26:10 had me dying. He is genuinely befuddled xD
lol at the stuffed puppet guy in the background slowly slunching over seemingly all by itself at 1:35 -- perfect for this film review!
This movie feels like a Peter Jackson film too! I love his movies! I can't believe I've never seen or heard of this one! Until now! Thanks guys! Whenever Peter releases this on Blu rey, I'll check it out!
Must be seen to be believed fully, lol!
It amuses me that someone once said "You know the guy behind Meet the Feebles and Bad Taste, that's the guy we want to do Lord of the Rings"
lol, funny to think... sadly, I don't think that ever happened considering that trilogy was Jackson's idea from the ground up and he shopped it around until New line Cinema bit the hook at the time.
I dare say Heavenly Creatures had a fair bit to do with his later success.
Another gem of a review of film I’ve never seen, this will be put on my list to watch if I can ever find it
I always figured the rabbit contracted Myxomatosis, since that was a contagious illness rabbits could get. That and I seem to recall an Aussie copy of the VHS saying something like that on the blurb.
This is no more a shock than a early Ralph Bakshi film.
Meet the Feebles does stream on Tubi in the US, I believe.
Just checked, and it is on Tubi. Thanks. I might check it out. 😊
Tubi is an ... interesting thing, on one hand it has hard to find hidden gems like this, in the other it has movies about grown women boffing their rich bosses underage kid ..as if that's a GOOD thing...
It’s a bit unusual, but I like it and it has something very real to say about puppet shows, by which I mean showbiz.
Awesome review as always guys! 👊 I actually have this on VHS from my Blockbuster days 😂
Yeah, me too!
Me and a buddy did a project on this movie years ago at "uni".. because we loved it and because we then could force some very boring people to watch it.. they had the job of criticizing our project.. so they had to watch the movie 🤣🤣
Meet the Feebles is streaming on tubi, times have changed.
So, fritz the cat but with puppets?
Pretty much
I LOVE sick, twisted humour... and having seen this film twice, it sounds odd even to me, but it leaves me cold. I don't tell people NOT to watch it, far from it... it's just not my cup of tea. I think part of it is because - TO ME - it seems like the cartoonists from Hustler Magazine made a mean-spirited parody of the Muppet Show LOL When asked, I just tell people to watch it for themselves. It feels like Jackson was trying to shock, not make cause laughter. THAT'S JUST ME (a man who can quote entire scenes from "Student Bodies" and giggles maniacally doing it LOL). Great review, though - almost makes me want to re-watch with new outlook... or not.
You guys need to watch Peter Jackson’s ‘Forgotten Silver’
Total shakespeare classic! I saw it at a perfect age of 13 so it worked splendid heheh
Haha, this is a strange one! :D I sometimes blurt out the phrase "meet the feebles", but barely anyone knows what I mean!
Indeed this movie is wild, and can be offensive now, but back in the day was more shocking in a time when muppets were popular, and this kind of movie was a bizarre novelty. What makes this movie work is that the feebles are not self-aware or are a joke, the joke is for audiences, but the feebles are going through serious and awful situations, all those adult themes approached carelessly and performed by puppets have an impact on viewers, and of course, in retrospective is interesting the Peter Jackson we know now was making this kind of movie back in the '80s.
By the way, during the review of this movie the puppet behind Iain do this 1:35 ?
Agreed. Still a better adult Muppet film than the Happytime Murders.
Humor needs to be offensive. Humor today needs much more offensive material.
Yeah, this is the movie that The Happytime Murders wanted to be but couldn't.
Love this film. I think it's funny as hell. Also, I'd love for you guys to review Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut.
I found the movie on Tubi
Definitely my favorite Muppet movie. Stop clutching your pearls Ian! You're the man, Gary. Much love from Alabama.
I love this movie... well, not exactly the movie itself. I love watching people watching it for the first time, which in my opinion, is the only way to watch it.
Well, sure, you can watch it for the technical and effect achievements, but come one, watching a poor unsuspecting soul watch it for the firs time is where it's at.
Gary and Ian? Welcome to the club of people that have this movie burned into your brain, or as the Nostalgia Critic once said (about another movie): "I'll remember it... because it will never go away."
I enjoy Meet the Feebles! Strange film.
You guys and your awesome variety of movies 👊👊
you forgot the JAZZ EELS !
Funnily enough I just finished watching this movie on Tubi
I see it as a vulgar, earnestly juvenile parody of pre-code musicals like Golddiggers of 1933 and 42nd Street. The hedgehog is Dick Powell and the hippo is Ginger Rogers.
The puppets look terrible, and everything looks dark with a lot of the scenes. I like raunchy comedy, but some of this stuff is just gross. 🤢. I’d rather watch Team America: World Police or even Fritz the Cat than Meet the Feebles. Thanks for the review Gary and Iain. It’s good to be introduced to Peter Jackson’s early work. 😊. P.S.: Someone in the comments said this movie is on Tubi. I might just give it a go. Thanks again guys.
Yeah this movie is pure evil, it even makes The Garbage Pail Kids Movie look good
I am surprised that, despite how much u cool dudes mention it, you have yet to do a review for The Frighteners.
i only have the deepest respect for Meet the Feebles.
Always found this movie nauseating. I'm a huge Jackson fan, but mixing puppets with graphic adult situations just leaves you with a bizarrely perverse feeling. Not one I'm in a rush to rewatch, unlikely I will.
Man I adore this film! And now I know several other people who've seen it lol
A brilliant film!!! It reminds me of “Birdman”
You guys should consider reviewing Pump Up the Volume...awesome movie!
this movie must've inspired
SOUTH PARK & FAMILY GUY
&
JEFF DUNHAM'S PEANUT puppet
100% would rather watch Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles, and Dead Alive multiple times more than ever sit through that hobbit trilogy again.
It's on tubi free streaming service in usa
It's free everywhere.
This movie is so fucking deranged, I love it so much.
An old friend gave me this on VHS, along with all the Faces of Evil Videotapes. I've watched Evil a bunch of times, but I've never been able to take this one out of the box. now, I don't have to. Thanx for the review!
Faces of Evil, what's that? Mondo? I saw Faces of Death, Traces of Death, Mondo Cane series and lots of others back in the day but never heard of Faces of Evil. Interesting.
Oops lol I meant death. I was drunk
@@christianpecoraro6182 Honest mistake, lol.
Planet Terror review 🧟♂️😎💀☠🦇
Thanks guys.
How does the cat have sex with a walrus
Veeeery carefully.
Leprechaun review 🧣😎
Sup guys great review, will you both do a review of resident evil welcome to raccoon city?
I could be working in my lab but I prefer to watch this :).
*Turn Up*
Loveeeee it
GARY looks better with a
trimmed beard
Written and directed by mountains of cocaine.
15 seconds in, holy shit, I was right...
Classic!😂😂
Such a weird/great movie.
The same guy who made The Lord of the Rings trilogy made this movie about R rated muppets.
I'd rather watch these weird low budget PJ movies than LOTR tbh.
Bob Shaye, chairman/co-founder of New Line Cinema, visited Peter Jackson's production office and was shocked to see a poster of "Meet The Feebles" hanging on a wall and had some reservations about giving money to Jackson.
Yes, he used to make really entertaining stuff before Hollywood got to him. It was all downhill after that...
Yes and it's better too.
Why was this not filmed in new zealend
I just wanna say I saw this on RUclips as a kid crazy times
Looks like Peter Jackson was trying to cash in on The Garbage Pail Kids Movie, except this movie is way worser.
The Garbage Pail Kids movie tanked, but I can't see any connection anyway.
@@DoubleMonoLR The artwork does look similar to The Garbage Pail Kids Movie. The only difference is that the movie was made in New Zealand.
⛄🔪
Me and my cousin tried to watch this when we were kids and turned it off after the fly started eating shit in the toilet..........yucky.
You guys are looking WAY too deep into this. It’s a raunchy, darkly comedic movie. Imagine a super dark parody of a Soap Opera catered towards an R rating. It’s purposely over the top. It’s also telling that the one dude can’t follow multiple storylines.
"The Happytime Murders" is crap.
This film looks like it has some really funny parts, with much better effects, and way better storytelling
You'd be correct. It is insanely funny. Hurt your midsection type funny. Constantly.
Because of this movie here a sub and like 😦👍
What did I just watch
This movie is amazing wtf!
What the actual ruck is this movie!?
Only thing I knew of this film before, was a quote from Peter Jackson saying "It's a nasty piece of work." And from this review . . . I guess so.
Mad to think - and amazing don't get me wrong - that a dude who started off with gory, juvenile flicks went on to be a powerhouse director of huge stuff. I think Jackson said on the Marc Maron podcast that he is trying to remaster his earlier stuff so . . . you never know
And yeah Iain, Hobbit trilogy is fucking awesome!
Yes, it's odd. Started out making good films and then regressing slowly into the utter toss he's made lately.
this movie offends me
as a person that can see
