@V W The French lost roughly as many soldiers as the US (or the UK) in WW2, and almost a half a million civilian dead. Men, women and children fought the Germans, and their country was the literal front line. They did their part and it was one of the hardest parts, as far as the western allies were concerned.

This happened to me in Paris too. For real. Got approached by two Chinese people and asked to buy wallets at the LV store. I speak some Chinese so I agreed to do it. Got the money. Went into the store. Got surrounded by security. Etc. This was in 2004. I can't believe they're still doing this.

@@cyzcyt They could have, and should have. But the thing is that LV also limits how many 'pieces' someone can buy, so they need a lot of people (if they're trying to buy a lot). They check your passport, ID etc. I'm personally sick of it. I was dragged along to a similar excursion with my rich aunt, where my mom forcibly took my passport so my aunt could buy more under my name. Throngs of people at every single counter, and the rest of the store seemed like a dimly lit maze of mirrors, bags, security. Wouldn't recommend that experience to anyone, and of course, I didn't get anything out of it, not one accessory.

What I like Kathleen Madigan is that her comedy is timeless, relatable race and age and sex don't matter. You will laugh to tears. That's a true comic.
Good story. Good delivery. She did a great job finding the cartoonish joy in surrounding yourself with seemingly unlikeable loved ones. Something everyone can relate to in some way.

Katheen is Hilarious. I love this set and have watched it several times and I still laugh. All of her stand up specials are great. I also watch her Madigan Pubcast every Tuesday since the pandemic. PEACE to ALL ... and STAY SAFE and HEALTHY.

This bit is how I got hooked on Kathleen in July 2020, had heard her once many years ago but started watching every bit I could find after watching this. Now a loyal termite following her storytimes and pubcasts. She's keeping her colony in laughs and sane during this crazy time!
I keep coming back to this, she is such a good story teller that I don't mind hearing it for the fourth time. It's still just as funny.
She has a rolling style...just keeps a story going while we laugh...love it! :)

I remember I got told I was a little sexist because I thought Amy Schumer isn’t a good stand up comedian and I just don’t like women comics. My response was Kathleen Madigan is one of the funniest goddamn people on the planet and she proves it once again here. She should be so much more famous than she is.

Amy Schumer isn't funny, and she isn't a good comic. I listen to comedy central on satellite radio all the time. Whenever she comes on I never laugh at all.
Could it just be that a lot of female comics don't seem funny to you, because they're reversing the gender-jokes and the subject is only annoying to you, when your gender is the joke, but when male comics joke about women, you're not affected, so you can laugh? Because honestly, I find most male comics annoying too, because many many men have built their whole carreers based on anti-women-jokes. I don't find female comedians who joke about men particularly funny either. But maybe it isn't that _women_ aren't funny. Maybe it's just that women joking about men aren't funny to men.

You have a good point. I do notice that female comics do a lot of jokes about being female. As a male, I don't identify with many of the issues and thus the subtext of the joke is lost. I have never cared that my legs were hairy so the joke about "hair shorts" does not resonate as much as a male comic talking about swallowing his pride to just do what his wife is asking even though he thinks it is wrong. It is not so much anti-woman as those common things men encounter when dealing with women. Just like the exasperating things we do that baffle and irritate the women in our lives.
It does explain the common allure of any comic doing comedy about things we all can appreciate.
George Carlin once said "I'm here to just say goofy $hit. You already know it... I'm just here to remind you of it". It is the comics that tap into thing things we have experienced or can empathize with that we like.
I have been in show business for 50 years. This is the best setup and comedy I have ever seen and heard. I’d love to see Kathleen Madigan live, when this pandemic is over. Genius.

They are very good friends. Lewis Black and Kathleen often go to the Middle east and in the USA, he is sometimes her (very overqualified , her words) opening act.

I was lucky enough to see her at the beginning when a friend of mine owned Comedy Etc close to where she’s from in the late 90’s. She was just as amazing then and super relatable to talk to.

At 9:45 when she gets to "I would like to buy", I'm laughing so hard I can't breathe. To me the genius was explaining that her Mom does that when speaking to foreign people, then having a detour in the story, so it crept up on you when she did the accent.
I’ve watched this video so many times (it’s one of my favorites to come back to) and STILL every time she gets to that part, I laugh out loud. Her storytelling ability is unmatched.
My ex husband used to do this. He had kind of a universal accent he would use and he'd talk loud and slow in this accent.

As a tour operator in St. Louis, MO: THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT CAN HAPPEN with taking our Midwestern Nice Folks to Paris, London and Rome! Great material.
This is also why it continues because your "nice folk" don't prepare in any way for trips,expect everyone to cater to them and speak English and are absolutely clueless about culture and history of other places. Not to mention the easiest to catch in a "duhhh" scam.
That's why Paris has a bad rep : scammers / clueless tourists. Scams are truly a plague everywhere tourists migrate in mass .

My friend is asian and she made a business out of it. She sends smurfs around european luxury shops, lets them buy bags, accessoires, scarfs etc. and ships them to her asian (chinese etc) customers. The price difference between e.g. Louis Vuitton bags in Paris compared to Jakarta is massive. All luxury brands have strict sales channels, you cannot establish a shop in Singapore directly importing luxury items from Europe and offer them for lower prices.

+ eilon brs. How would you not know it is fake? The real bags cost $1300USD, are purchased in the brand's shop and are made of real leather. The fake bag cost $20 (she overpaid), was bought on the street, and is made of cardboard and plastic. Nobody thinks a fake bag is real.
eilon brs. I was in the middle of dealing for my knockoff when 2 cops came wheeling up. The bags were laid out on a quilt on the ground. As soon as they saw the cops they each grabbed a corner of the quilt and took off like Usain bolt. Luckily I tossed mine back onto the quilt because the coo was pissed. That is when you get the tickets. They sell on the streets.
