    Make sure you use cotton thread! also the batting resistant batting is called Insulite. There are other brand name heat resistant batting under other brand names. Shiny side should be facing down on the palm side of the mitt so the heat will not penetrate the mitt. This is by far the best tutorial I have found on RUclips! Thank you for posting this video! ❤😁

    Also, make sure the reflective part of the thermal wadding is toward the outside fabric. It reflects the heat

    It seems like the lining should be made slightly smaller than the exterior. When I made them both equal, there was about an inch or so of extra fabric on the lining when sewing the openings together. Also I think hand sewing the bias binding is the only way. Even when removing the free arm from my BabyLock machine, I still couldn't get the mitt around the other arm or the layers all under the presser foot.

      Some machines come with a sleeve attachment. I had to hand sew it as it wouldn't fit round my machine arm .

      just trim the extra off after sewing the batting on. It will also take some of the bulk out.

    I would love to see how you connect the bias binding edges to make it look neat / tidy. Thank you

      For the one side I put right sides together and machine stitched together. Then I folded it over the edge and hand sewed the other side. x

      Hand stitching looks very nice and insures you are getting it evenly attached.

    Thank 😊 you can't wait to start this awesome project.
    I do have a Question please I had an old oven mitts and opened it up.
    But there was only 💯 cotton batting?
    And even the bowel cozy?
    I'm a bit confused 😕 as to the other layer.
    I was hoping you could explain it to Me better.
    Thank you 😊 💓

    • @TodayweCraft
      @TodayweCraft  2 года назад

      Yes, you can absolutely just use 100% cotton batting. I use the reflective stuff because it works better as a heat resistant layer.

    • @mysambamusic
      @mysambamusic 9 месяцев назад

      It is called Insulite in the USA. There are other brand named heat resistant batting as well.

      The thermal wadding is quilted to the outer fabric and the cotton wadding is sandwiched around the liner fabric. Hope that helps xx

    • @ellebrown6560
      @ellebrown6560 2 года назад

      Yes, I didn't see it either and was wondering. So, now my top piece and my thermal stuff is quilted but not my inner piece or my outer piece. Never mind. Found it.

    Thanks for the video. If I wanted to embroider my name, would I do that first before using the batting or do I quilt the batting on the fabric & then embroider?

    • @TodayweCraft
      @TodayweCraft  3 года назад +1

      Hi Twanna! That's an excellent question. I guess it depends on how thick your outer fabric is. If it's quite sturdy then I would embroider first and then quilt together. If your outer fabric is quite thin then you may need to go through both the outer fabric and the batting.

    Hi what's the best fabric to use to make oven mitts?

    • @TodayweCraft
      @TodayweCraft  4 года назад

      I would recommend a 100% cotton fabric for the outer and an insulated wadding for the inner.

    • @mysambamusic
      @mysambamusic 9 месяцев назад

      Cotton! Synthetics will melt.

    • @mysambamusic
      @mysambamusic 9 месяцев назад

      Cotton duck or 100% cotton demin would work too. They are thicker cotton fabrics though.

  • @2010stoof

    Can I use poly thread or best to use cotton?

    • @TodayweCraft
      @TodayweCraft  2 года назад

      Yes you can. I used cotton just in case but unless you're really holding something very hot for a long period I can't imaging it would be a problem.

    Hope you found the broken needle piece before your hubby did. Out of curiosity, ever heard of anyone that had a broken needle fly up and hit them in the eye? That would be my fear.

      Fortunately I did! Always a risk tho. I can't say that I have ever heard of a piece flying up.

      because of thickness of the layers. You can use a walking stick attachment.
