Not only are 500 roaming birds overhead more accurate than 3 Geostationary birds, THEY ARE SO MUCH CLOSER !!!
PASSIVE LEO RADIATION TRACKING is way so smart. Like standing in front of a Xray machine, those Germans can take a picture of anything up in the sky in seconds. Real time Xray imaging uploaded to a SAM will make ballistic interception 100% accurate. (Beyond the horizon)
And best of all those Russians & Iranians will not be able to jam the data image collected by the passive receivers. Way too cool!

Jay you speak of GPS/GNASS being jammed and aircraft, etc. Most importantly the modern cell networks 4g/5g are dependent due to the precise rf timing. So no Nav system providing precise time - cell phone will not work. This is especially important point out as the 3G systems are shut down / phased out…. The modern cell network is fragile for sure. Hardware, software, rf attacks, gps/timing

Often military devices use inertial navigation instead of GPS. They measure acceleration using algorithms to judge their location based on movement. They need an initial location to to feed the algorithm. They have anticipated GPS jamming could happen however inertial navigation develops error over time. This error can be corrected and calibrated using landmarks and checkpoints which requires "intelligence" from computer aided vision or human interaction. NASA very often uses this because you cannot pick up GPS at Mars or Jupiter so they use star-finders and optics to find a planet or star to verify the location via triangulation. All these system are very high tech which would be out of the reach of most consumers or small organizations. Cool video I enjoyed the discussion.

Latency should not be an issue because all they are looking at is the RF signal bouncing off of the target.

When the Starlink constellation is supplanted with the G3 laser hopping and cellphone connectivity, this is likely to make most emergency beacon technologies all but redundant. There is still a case for automatic EPIRB's, but such devices could also be redesigned to take advantage of the massive Starlink constellation.
The near-global introduction of existing cellular technology for emergency purposes alone is likely to change the game once again. That position information is inherent in any such communication without other supporting technology like GPS is a huge benefit. I am frankly astounded SpaceX has demonstrated already this is 'marginally' practical.
The plight of MH370 is still a mystery because of the termination of land-radio and satellite communications. With Starlink embedded on most passenger aircraft, there are passenger communication services. And then aircraft engineers need to ensure that it is impossible to disable such a link by simply hitting a circuit breaker (a LOT of assumptions from me on this).

There is sufficient RF from Starlink satellites for reflection signals to be useful for signal analysis proving a good signal to noise ratio. Yet officials claim absorption of this RF is safe for all. Hmmm

So then, if Germany can do this, thenTesla could do the same to track all objects on or approaching a roadway near a Tesla Vehicle. This information could be relayed by cellular modem to the vehicle in real time for the vicinity by around querying that particular device grid square. The data sent would be minimized, making sure this is not a bandwidth hog, to only a small radius around the vehicle. FSD could use this as a birdseye view.

The system combines signals being bounced off the targets from geostationary TV satellites too. These have a very distinct unchanging coverage area, but there are areas not covered. II suspect they use the reflected GEO-Sats to get a "coarse" reading and the Starlinks to narrow down the location.
Geostationary satellites are in synchronous equatorial orbits. they can use multiple GEO-Sat signals and get close to an East-West location but not so accurate in a North-South orientation. Starlink satellites follow inclined orbits, so that puts them on orbits crossing below the GEO-Sats. So using them also, help create true triangulation and more precise North-South locations.
Because this system is looking at reflected RF and the signal sources are the satellites, getting reflections from signals coming from different planes will give the most accurate location.

Hi J, I am a surveyor in California and we use GPS technology to pinpoint our position to the centimeter accuracy all the time. We do not depend on only the 30 or so satellites in the US constellation. Our receivers also tune in on GLONASS and other countries' constellations as well. Our equipment usually can read signal from 7 to 20 satellites simultaneously but only needs 5 to get a lock on our position. You indicate that all an enemy must do is jam the US constellation to make our military lose its accuracy. Well, I don't think it would be that easy. This John Q. enemy would have to shut down their own constellation as well so we would all be equally lost. Now I do not understand how reading the signal from the Starlink satellites is going to indicate the location of another passive receiver. It seems to me that the objects that this system can follow would be only those that are transmitting signals to the Starlink satellites. Is this correct?
