Not acknowledging SpaceX is F'd up for this unprecedented rescue mission that Boeing has strong-armed NASA to not label as such. JUST SAY THANK YOU TO THE ONE THAT DESERVES IT MOST.
SpaceX calls the mission Crew-9 because it's their ninth operational crew mission to the ISS. The mission was planned to happen regardless, so their involvement in an "unprecedented rescue" was basically to just fly the mission they were going to anyway with two astronauts instead of four (also make two more suits and work out the Crew-8 contingency, but generally NASA and Boeing teams were much more focused on Starliner).
@@AmbientMorality All I am saying is in all that, they cleverly avoided having to mention SpaceX. They will return next year with SpaceX. SpaceX is 1st mentioned in journalists' questions.
So there is no rescue plan to get people off the iss in the event of an emergency??
There is but they don't want to have to ask Elon for help.
Boeing also owns half of SLS & ULA..... but America hates SpaceX....
Dragon can hold 7 people...
There is always a Soyuz capsule docked into the ISS, considering it is the generalized 'emergency' capsule it makes sense, however this isn't emergency there is no reason to use it.
(But yeah when there are more people on the ISS that capsule might not be available, a scenario like that is unlikely but in such an emergency NASA was willing to use the Starliner capsule if it had been the best remaining option.)
This is crazy! With all the technology, they should be able to bring them back sooner. You mean these poor people have to spend Christmas up there? Something does not seem right here..
