      @@Funfoods It seemed like part of the issue was in how you were pulling. You were pulling your arms apart, where the Korean buy was holding one side near his shoulder and pushing the other end away. That way the muscles you're using are the same you use for a bench press rather than a reverse fly. Pushing would be much easier and nowhere near as tiring.

    Just watched a couple other video's about dragons beard candy and one lady experimenting with it said that she had to cook it less than the recipe said in order to keep it more flexible. And boy do those venders in asia make it look easy and fast. I guess practice makes perfect. Their sugar mixture looked a bit more flexible than what you had aswell. I hope to see you revisit this with different cooking times.

      BadW01f 2 Ive made a lot of research on this candy and I was able to find more than 10 variations when it comes to ingredients, the most popular and easy to do(the one the asian venders usually use) was made with fermender honey as that it is more flexible, but I was also able to find some tips to make it easier like using a bit of oil at the start to make it smother to stretch

    • @buggsy5

    James you need to add flavoring to this recipe...I have been making it for years and always add flavoring just like regular cotton candy is flavored.

      T C --- where do u get your flavoring from ?

    • @JuhiSRK
      @JuhiSRK 5 лет назад

      Actually, not all cotton candy is flavored but just colored. Example, if you are making regular candy apples (same sugar content but no vinegar), you just add food coloring at end. It's just a cooked sugar flavor.

    • @JuhiSRK
      @JuhiSRK 5 лет назад

      @@stephaniedaigle5930 The best flavoring is probably Louran Oil extracts. You can often buy them at stores like Wal-Mart, but you can get them at the Louran website or Amazon. I've only tried cinnamon & cherry. Cinnamon was great. Cherry was terrible with a very cloying fake taste.

    I think you're recreating the dragon candy from Japan. (Or was it Korea?)
    Anyway, maybe your strands are breaking because instead of using hardened honey, you created an alternative. I wonder where are hardened honeys sold at. 🤔

    • @Funfoods
      @Funfoods  6 лет назад +1

      That might be a good explanation of why the strands broke.

      I think it has to do more with the cooking time and temp. Candy making is extremely hard to do because precision is kea. When it comes to molten sugar, the slightest temp change can mean a soft candy or a hard brittle one. The hotter it gets the harder the candy. And its also important not to stir the sugar at all when making dragons beard because that will cause crystallization and make it hard as well.

    • @stephaniedaigle5930

      FunFoods --- it's the "Heat" ....you had the proper ingredients... You just let it boil a tad too long...but not by much since u were able to make a couple twists out of it... The trick is to remove it from the stove ***BEFORE*** it reaches 170° ...so like 167°-168° ...cuz even once u remove it it's still going to keep heating for a cpl minutes still... It's super important to not go "Over" 170° ... I have seen a loooot of these videos..and that has been the common denominator for each failed attempt...but usualy by the 3rd attempt.. They got it right! It has absolutely nothing to do w cooling because u can make those ahead of time and only pull them a day or two later...Also.. Adding more Cornstarch..a lot more when u twist...and your first circle was waaaay waaaay too big.... It should of needes to be half the size... ( it gets bigger as u keep twisting though ..but it's much easier to pull when the candy is the right temperature as well..a lot more soft)...For your first attempt though... U were super close! And lastly..you should twist it 15 times in total...that makes 16,000 individual strands ;) That"s the real dragon's beards count.. I have sent u another comment earlier but resending u this link tk a korean vendor so u can observe his technique ( again..keep in mind that once u get the candy at the right temperature..it"s a loot more malleable, ..it won"t be half as hard work as here..) ..I feel like I'm missing something... Temperature..15twists..more cornstarch...maybe not?..lol..( Oh I remember!! The size of your first ring! That's what it is! So I didnt miss anything lol) .Here's the Link!! It's the finest and cleanest dragon's beard I have ever seen!! Look at how much cornstarch he adds before twisting and notice how small his very first ring is too! ;) ..PLEASE Try it again and make another video!! ;) Would Looove to see it !! ;)

    This is hard to watch. If you watch the korean videos about making dragon's beard, you would see how easily it stretches out. I think your sugar mixture is too hard. You should not be putting that much effort stretching it out.

      This is good enough for an untrained beginner. In ancient China this used to be the food of the emperor because there couldn't be a second candy master of the skill level to be found anywhere else. Nowadays we have corn syrup, cane sugar, and candy thermometer to help us we should expect some video to show people how to DIY a lesser version of it. And that's a good thing. While master-skilled artist makes legends, it's the dumbed-down version made in every family kitchen that ensures the dish to live on forever.

      Strongjohnf FTW --- it"s cuz his candy wasn"t heated properly so the candy was way too hard ( hence why it broke) whereas usualy it's a lot more malleable...! Making his job 3times as hard! Nothing to do w laziness..it was just climbing an uphill battle...! Would love to see YOU try it ( w the hardened candy) see how "easy" u think it is! And besides... He wasn"t that far off...it usualy requires 15 twists to make.perfectly fine strands.. So he was only a few twists off ... Chill out
