What a great video, Jen! We've either never thought about all this, or thought about it and veered away fast. You've done a lot of digging. Much appreciated.
I made a letter for close friends in which there are, besides my last will and testament, all the passwords to manage my activities. This video is definitely helpful to prepare everything in the best way, also to leave less pain for those who are left after us. Thank you 💕
Wow! A lot of things I had not thought of before. I do know that unless I give my login information to someone, the thousands of e-books I have bought throughout the years will just go up in smoke. Thank you, as always, for bringing this topic up.
I DO so hope you always live in authenticity here in RUclips land. Those last couple of seconds as you ponder what you've just said about hoping your loved ones grieve...I get it. :) You're SUCH a breath of fresh air, Jen...I'm enjoying your journey.
My brother and stepsister are supposed to handle my mom's estate but have NO CLUE what they are in for. They can hardly find the time to call her once a month for a few minutes. Mom had to go thru a ton of hoops after my stepdad passed...she thought she knew the answer to "his favorite restaurant" but after three guesses they said she needed to submit info a different way. Changing the cable/internet to her name vs his was a nightmare, even more than banking and vehicles. Thanks for the info on this matter...it's going to help me!
This is fantastic information. Thank you so much. It's probably going to take me the rest of the year to sort out my digital disorder. Oh, that doesn't leave me much time. But I can get it started, thanks to you ❤❤
This is really interesting. I had to clean off my father’s computer when he passed away at 90. Yes he used his computer right up until a couple of days before he died. There was a surprising amount of things I had to remove and of course was very emotional. Digital information is included in wills now. All ours were done by a solicitor. Thanks for the information. ❤
It's a very important topic. I have a document of all of my passwords, but even THAT is password-protected, so basically nobody will be able to read it except one designated person. I've often thought about the sunsetting of accounts/emails/websites and the like. In the end, it won't matter once we are gone but I think it's very proactive and responsible to address it ahead of time.
I have wondered these same questions many times but have not done the research to find out what to do. You have! Thank you! I have "saved" this video for future reference and will forward it to a few friends I've had the conversation with.
A friend of mine, a lawyer, told me to Write down my will in case I can’t decide for myself, can bê any timeAfter turning 18 yrs. . old. Parents can’t decide for him nor can a friend or partner. I won’t die earlier Just because I wrote down what is preferable for me. I don’t want to stay on Life Support no matter what. If there is at the Point in question no “Hope” for recovery I don’t want to be treated like vegetables. I know a Young Man at the ICU who didn’t Open his Eyes unless he was washed. Half a year later his father called to Tell us his son lost Long lasting Memory but would enjoy his short time Memory. We all should try to live more in the precious Moment.
As always, an interesting topic Jenn. Frankly, I hadn't even thought about that. Personally my digital footprint is very small. And, that is by choice on my part. And, I have very little data of value out there. But, I do have user ids and passwords written down so my daughter can do with them as she pleases. But, for many people, you provided some very useful info in this vlog. Thank you so much! 😊 Looking forward to our visit next week. --Paula in Ohio USA 🙋
Good topic. My Mom has been gone 14 years. I still see her Facebook account popup especially on her birthday. I hate it and I don’t know how to get it closed but then again maybe I don’t want to…
What a great subject Jen thank you so much for bringing that up. I’m going to use the links below and go in and make a designate person for my accounts. I really appreciate this video and subject. Thank you.
Thank you for resaerching and airing this. Ill have a careful look at my laptop, run by Microsoft and which I haven’t used for more than two years. I’ have to load it with energy First. As many , including me, don’t approach this issue at an appropriate time - can bê any time- Thank you for the encouragement,
Oh my goodness, you are speaking to something that I have wondered about. I haven't accessed my fb account for years, or my Instagram. Now I have an idea of what to do. Thx
Jen, you are scraping 100K in less than a year! Congrats! This is definitely a topic I didn't have to deal with when I was doing my parents' estate, or even when I set up my trust a decade ago.
I have thought about this several times and have never followed up on things. I think I need to do it now that I’m 60. I have recently started my own RUclips channel. It’s not monetized now but maybe someday it will be so I need to get that all figured out. I have an adult son and he is going to be my primary person, but I’m thinking I should have a secondary back up as well because you never know. Thank you for reminding me about this.
Wow, I never knew any of that. Thanks, Jen. That's really helpful. I did wonder if my blog would continue without me but apparently not. That would be 15 years of a large accumulation of architectural and landscape history research plus thousands of photos gone! As it happens, I have my photos and documents containing the text saved to removable disk, plus my photos are 35mm so I have the prints and negs for all of those. There won't be the online presence for people to research from though, which is sad. :(
This was an eye opener. Thank you. I don't have much for social media, but I would for sure want my kids to have access to all the photos I have in digital form. I also will think about deleting or canceling any accounts I don't use much, because why have that all out there. Then again, can anything really be deleted in the digital world.
Congratulations! That was a well-researched and vital video. For me it actually starts with knowing your family first. My father passed away at 99 and I was always closer to him than my younger brother. That means my brother could care less about the information etc. that you mentioned and left the clean-up to me. I on the other hand was the appointed historian. Of course, my father was not a social media guy, but he did have a huge file cabinet worth of important papers and shelves of golf and church awards. It took me several weeks to go thru it when he passed. For me, it is only my 24-year-old daughter. She knows ALL my passwords for financial and streaming. Facebook banned me (rogue followers left X-rated material on my page). so, I don't have any social media. As far as inheritance, if it doesn’t have a dollar sign before it, it is history. The only exception will be my You Tube Channel which I will funnel revenues through a joint Charles Schwartz account with joint RUclips ownership with her😎
Hey Jen, wouldn't it just be easier to document on paper in a binder that you keep in a hidden location, all your accounts usernames and passwords? This is what I have always done since we accumulate so many it's so hard for me to remember them all. I have 3 daughters that I figured, and have told them, that they would access all my accounts the way I do, and just delete the accounts when I pass away. I am keeping track of them all anyways, this way they are always up to date if I should change any. They will be the ones going through my belongings anyways when I die. Love your videos, hugs from Alberta.
No iPhone, no cloud saving, just the bank account with almost nothing in it which I access with my tablet which is also used to buy food and Amazon. Our best friend is a funeral director who holds a letter with full instructions and where to access our Wills. Local young couple make a living preparing houses for sale, minimal funeral and just one notice which will read 'She's up the garden'. Just think how simple it would be if I had become minimalist.😅
0:26 Hi, Jen. I really enjoy your videos. Lots of great info there. BYW, are you aware that your image is being used on one of those scammy ads for a Medicare spending card? They’re using your image with badly synced audio and a man’s voice!
Great topic, not nearly enough discussed, I think. Because digital stuff is not as tangible, we tend to forget (at least I do) that it also needs that kind of attention. And... will this comment last after I'm gone? 😂
Hello Jen. Just wanted to let you know your face (from a video) was flashed as part of this guy's video called "RUclips is now on EASY Mode (Anyone Can Blow Up in 2025)" His channel name is Jason Lee. He doesn't actually mention your channel but I thought it was interesting........wishing you continued success. Take care.
Maybe Meta has changed things but about a year ago I received notification of new posts and pics a deceased friend had supposedly made. Those pics and posts were so opposite of what she was like. I reported it and that she had died. They had me submit proof that she died (screenshot of newspaper obituary notice). Her page is memorialized but the offensive pics are still there. Not a good page to go back to for remembering her.
That's interesting. I'm not a social media creator, but I would think that without anyone intervening, the platform paying out would come to a closed account. Having been an executor of both parents, my experience is the banks cannot close the decedents' bank accounts fast enough. Meaning that anyone trying to deposit to a "dead" account are going to get a feedback declining the request. So I guess at that point, who would keep the money? Anyway, definitely great advice for people to have all those contingencies in order.
Jen, I just saw an ad for Medicare savings and they used your picture image for the ad. It’s AI generated with a voice that sounds like Judge Judy lol. You’re in the gray shirt, it’s the pic you use on your profile. Didn’t know if you were aware of it. I’ve seen dozens of ads with different people, same AI voice but it struck me funny to see you doing the ad. Didn’t know if you were aware of it this sponsored ad using your image.
@ glad you caught a video! I was cooking in the kitchen when I saw it so I couldn’t get a shot of it. Glad to know I wasn’t the only one who saw this! I hadn’t seen it before today, the voiceover is the same as they’ve always used but first time I saw them use Jen’s image with that AI voice over.
But that's to remind me if I've forgotten it through years of non use. If I don't care to check in after several years, I'm sure no one else cares. Whew, who needs the stress of sending in a death certificate or taking it to court if all it is is kitty pictures? Naw, it can just hang out there just like it always has. Eventually, one day, facebook will announce it is having to delete accounts 70 years inactive and that'll be that.
Imagine how shocked I was to see your face being used on a commercial for a card for seniors! It’s obvious they used AI to do the talking because it actually looked like it was you talking! I took a screenshot if you want to see it!
@ It’s a misleading ad about the special benefits available to a few Medicare and Medicaid recipients, not sure how to report it. Glad you are aware, just wish they’d stop.
My son has all my passwords already, along with durable p of a, all at once. He can get into any of my accounts to announce my death and hold an online celebration of my life. There's no $$ involved though.
I'm pretty sure i just saw one of those scam ads for senior money cards that used your face. It was low quality and replced your mouth with a different one. Just thought I'd let you know.

What an important video. It makes one think about what they have out there online and how to get things together for estate planning.
My estate attorney addressed this in my trust. It is interesting.
Excellent choice of topic Jen! Thanks!
Such a good overview of this is, keep coming up with this stuff, it’s gold. Xxx
My brother and stepsister are supposed to handle my mom's estate but have NO CLUE what they are in for. They can hardly find the time to call her once a month for a few minutes. What a great subject! So many of us would never consider our digital after death. Thank you for publishing this information.
Yes
Such a helpful video, food for thought as well. Thanks so much Jen! ❤
This is fantastic information. Thank you so much. It's probably going to take me the rest of the year to sort out my digital disorder. Oh, that doesn't leave me much time. But I can get it started, thanks to you ❤❤
My first response when reading the title of your video was, 'I won't care'. I'll stick with that.
This is FANTASTIC topic!!
😮 something I haven't considered. Thanks for the great info.

Wow! Things we do not think about! I guess I have some work to do. Thanks Jen!
What an excellent video!!! As a silver, this didn't cross my mind. Thanks so much for sharing such a great topic.❤
Well, thank you for doing my homework for me. You're the best.
So much great information on issues I never thought about, but are so important. Thank you!!

So very helpful, thank you Jen!
I’ve really enjoyed watching your channel grow.
sad, but true...thank you for this!
Real food for thought, thank you, Jen!
Great info and prompts me to clean up digital too. Thanks
Thank you so much for this! I’ve been thinking about this topic lately.
Oh this is really useful, especially as I've got to you saying it's all below so stop pausing and rewinding. Thanks so much Jen ❤

Thanks for subscribing!
I was wondering about this the other day. Funny you made a video for it. Can you read my thoughts? LoL!
Thanks for all the great and necessary information. I have been thinking I should appoint someone to shut my credit cards off.
Interesting topic. Not many people think 🤔 about this kind of stuff
Something to think about as I turn 60 and solo! My family pics are already shared at least.

Your RUclips account will continue to generate MONEY after you are gone! It should be left to someone in your WILL!
Doesn’t work like that. You’ll need to continue uploading or you won’t get anything.
What happens when the old videos bring in ad views? Don’t people continue to make money with their videos?
