    Hi Will
    Thanks, heaps for your tips. I followed your instructions today and it worked. In short, my rod with pink glow made my day. I went to Caloundra wide. It was hard going but your ‘trick’ worked: Snapper 70cm, Tusk fish 35 and …. monster Grinners. I never believed in soft plastics but it looks like it is time to reflect and persist. Anyway, thanks again Will.

      Hi Arek, wow that’s absolutely awesome!! I’m so glad that the tips and technique worked for you. 70cm is a great snapper, it would have fought hard! Well done mate!! It’s cool that you made the trip up to Caloundra from Greenbank too - we live in Ipswich so we have to drive to the coast to go fishing too.
      It’s amazing how effective the soft plastics really are when used correctly, especially for species like snapper. Now that you’ve got the hang of it, I’m sure you will have more success into the future too 😁👍
      Sometimes when we fish out in deeper water like 60m, we have to use a 5 inch soft plastic and a heavier jig head like 5/8oz or 3/4oz.
      Thanks so much for the comment mate, this is why I love to make the videos and share information 🙌🎣 tight lines!

      Thanks for the comment mate! 😁 I’m not sure what boat you have, but if you pick a calm day with 0-5 knots of wind and 1.1m of swell or less, you should have good conditions to go out and experiment 👍🎣
      Also, the seaway is always calmer on a run in tide compared to a run out. I hope you get out there and land a few fish mate! 🙌

    Well presented mate, just starting out on snapper after many years of estuary plastic fishing, also a zman man, got about 30 packs of 4’diesel minnows not one of em pink lol, but I’ll get some 🤙

      Thanks mate I really appreciate the comment!! I’m glad you enjoyed the vid. You’ll definitely have lots and lots of fun chasing the snapper on plastics, they are a really fun target on lures and of course they’re tasty too.
      Those 4” Diesel Minnowz will be unreal for Snapper too! As I said in the video we love the 3” MinnowZ in pink glow, but I reckon whatever other colours you have would definitely work too mate. I have some white coloured 4” Diesel Minnowz I’m keen to try soon.
      Fingers crossed you can get a few mate, I’m sure you will! Tight lines and thanks again for the comment. 🙌

    Great video as always mate ! Sorry if I missed it in the video but what’s your knot of choice for attaching jig head - do you use a uni style knot or loop for swimming action?

    • @willkitching
      @willkitching  2 месяца назад +1

      Thanks mate, I really appreciate the support as always! 😁🙌 No you didn’t miss it, that’s one thing that I didn’t talk about actually. We use a full blood knot/locked blood knot. We haven’t ever had issues with this knot and it’s really strong, but you could use a uni knot too if you prefer that.
      We don’t use loop knots with the plastics though, as firstly all the action of the plastic is in the tail, but secondly I don’t think it’s as strong. For some reason I’ve seen a few people lose snapper from the actual loop breaking on the eyelet of their jigheads! Not sure why it happens, but I don’t want to risk that.
      We usually use a loop knot with hardbody lures though to give them maximum action 👌

    Awesome mate. - my take aways from what I think I’m doing wrong
    - drifting too fast. Usually drifting at 0.6 - 1 knot. Suspect my gear isn’t reaching the target zone. Always windy . Always getting pushed around in my cuddy cabin with a sail haha. Have a drag but never unpacked it - so will try that slow down the drift
    - using a cast to let out the line > good trick I’ve got the jbraid with the marks anyway but a cast is an easy way t get the rod into action and move onto your bottom basher.
    - lighter line. I’m in min 30lb braid and 30/40lb leader on all my offshore rigs … might need to rig one up a bit lighter and see. Reels mostly 5000 and rods 5-10kg mostly 6-7” so think that is about right. A lot of shimano stuff.
    - go 5” plastic and 5/0 hook on heavier line… although I didn’t get the relevance of the hook against the heavier line setup?
    - change up the jig weights depending on conditions - I don’t remember the last time I had a

    • @willkitching
      @willkitching  2 месяца назад +1

      G’day mate, thanks heaps for the comment! I’m glad you took some tips away and you’re spot on with most of that information!
      Firstly, I highly suggest that you give the sea anchor/drogue a try if you feel like you’re drifting too fast and struggling to keep your baits and lures down in the zone! It definitely helps a lot in windy conditions and can make a world of difference.
      As you said, it definitely helps to cast the lure as soon as you start the drift to basically ‘set and forget’ it while you use another rod in your hands 😁
      In terms of your setups and your line, they sound perfect. Maybe try tying on a lighter 20lb leader on one of your rods and see if it makes a difference! Your rods and reels sound great though 👍
      The reason we use a larger hook on setups with heavier line is because there is going to be more drag pressure on the hook.
      We’ve had the smaller 3/0 hooks straighten and pull out of the fish’s mouth much more easily when we’ve used heavier line and tighter drag.
      The smaller hooks are fine when we use the lighter 12lb braid, but as soon as we use 20lb braid or more the smaller hooks can’t hold up. So we have found going up to a 5/0 hook to be best. And in turn, a larger 5” plastic which still works fantastically. Does this make a bit more sense mate?
      And yes it definitely pays to have few different jig head weights. We start with 3/8oz and then move up to 1/2oz and even as high as 3/4oz when fishing 60m of water or lots of current/wind .
      If you have any more questions feel free to ask away mate! I really hope that you can get out there, put this technique to good use, and nail a few nice snapper 😁👍
