Thanks for the video, brief video like this is what I needed to make sure it was a straight forward job prior to starting it myself! Got a great chuckle from the water pump falling off on reassembling, I would've done the same...Not sure why everyone is a critic for an open sourced FREE VIDEO though... must all be master mechanics.. Thank you again for the video and taking the time to upload it.
Thanks for the great vid , I am doing this tomorrow for the same reason, gasket leaking , and like you, I am replaceing the waterpump too , since i have it torn down that far . A ++ (1-9-2018 ) 10 year old pump
Was your leak cause from starting in cold weather? I've got an 07 JK and recently it has been leaking but only when I start it in cold weather condition and with the heater on. I hope its not the water pump, couldn't really trace where the leak is from (looks more towards drivers side). Your instructions is very well, thanks for the post!
These engines are one giant leak. The water pump leaked cool or warm weather. I also had to replace the intake manifold gaskets as one developed a large coolant leak. The shitty plastic thermostat housing is now seeping too.
I just fired up my engine this morning and found the leak was actually coming from the top radiator hose, so I basically just tighten the clamp and seems to be doing fine now. Might still have to change the hose down the road (knock on wood, hope thats all there is). Sorry to hear you've got one problem after another. Are you gonna post a video for the manifold gasket replacement as well?
So I replaced my water pump over a year ago, and its leaking again. I cant remember exactly how I did it, but Im pretty sure I didnt use a gasket and used blue RTV. What should I do? Should I replace the pump (It was just replaced and still functions) or just take it off, clean it up, and use a gasket and RTV? Or just gasket? Or just RTV? Any insight would helpful!
Hmmmmm. I am no mechanic so can't say for sure. I used the supplied gasket with a little RTV when I did this one. The thing with with RTV is you shouldn't tighten down the bolts right away or else you just squeeze out the sealant. Let it set up first and then finish tightening down.
Your video starts after the pulley is off. Mine is stuck in place. After removing the three bolts and hitting it with a hammer, it does not budge. Any recommendations?
Lafond RC creaysler says not to mix them, some fucker in the auto repair shop mix my hoat with the green crap and fuck up my system i had to do 2 full flushes to get all the shit out
Yeah, not the best quality oil filter. Motomaster from Canadian Tire. Oversize filter for extra capacity. Never had issues with my 5000km change interval. Not worth buying a K$N. When I want a good filter I buy Napa Gold, which is actually a Wix filter.
Ever use K&N if you off road in a dusty area even jf you have a snorkel. The reason why K&N gives you better MPGs is because it gives you more air flow... which means it lets in more dust. People chose them because on road they are great and reuasble. If off roading us the paper filters, they filter more.

Thank you for the video, I am doing this same job later today or tomorrow on my '08 JK. Great video.
Thx. Good luck.
Nice video and how you explained what you were doing as you went along.
That “one” giving you grief is the one that snapped for me. Luckily I’m equipped and welded a nut onto the broken end and got it out
Thanks for the video. I was stressing it was going to be an expensive fix but doesn't look too bad

ayy yur the man brother,my shop would prob charge me at least 500 minus parts. The stealership would be over a grand for sure.Yu r a mechanic.
I did this today (used your vid) and broke 2 bolts at the head. What a nightmare!!!!! All fixed but it took forever. Thanks for the vid it was great!
Devon van Vuuren Oh boy. Glad you made out ok. If I recall one bolt was stubborn for me but luckily it didn't break.
How did you get it out? I broke the top bolts head off.
Lol not much fluid in there😂😂5 hours later and 2 gallons 👊🏻great video
Thanks for the vid, I just got the thing, out of the shop.i was hoping there wasn't any tricks
nice vid. im hoping to do this tomorrow to my 2007 jk. thanks for sharing
+johnny alonso how did it go? I have to replace my '07 soon.
Top video, I'm doing thermostat at same time ✌️

+Brandon Koay I don't recall if I took video of the process. I haven't been too active creating videos the last while.
Thank you for that video sir ...your awesome.

Lafond RC I think what I'll do is try just the gasket and see what happens. If it doesn't work I'll put some RTV and gasket. Thanks for the reply
Great video, wish that you showed taking off the belt for me though. Subscribing to your channel now!
Thanks for the video! Had a leak this fall and was intake manifold gasket. Looks like water pump this time ..FYI can def tell your also in Canada ;)
I've got to add this prob. To the growing list on my 2011 jk.

Thanks for the video.
so you dont need to torque down the bolts at all?
so I should use anti-seize? not lock tight or silicone? can I use 2 gaskets?
takingu2skoo Never used lock tight on engine components never use 2 gasket follow factory specs
Awesome video, dont sell yurself short.Yur figured it out an recorded all of it.I think yur as good as a mechanic or better even.
Did you have to remove the radiator?
No you can see it in the video still in place
Thanks for the video
Do a full flush! Why you're running the green crap?
The green crap is just fine as it is a HOAT antifreeze. That is what the manual calls for.
Lafond RC creaysler says not to mix them, some fucker in the auto repair shop mix my hoat with the green crap and fuck up my system i had to do 2 full flushes to get all the shit out
with the belt can you just mark some points and then line it up again?
The belt is an accessory drive belt; it has nothing to do with timing. You don't have to line anything up.
oh ok thanks
My pulley is stuck. What should i do?
Usual methods. Soak it in good penetrating oil, not WD40, maybe try heating it carefully, use a puller....
@@suzukiman650 thanks for replying. I got the pulley out by hitting it a few times with a mallet.
Rule of thumb if you don't know take pictures before you tear down .
excellent tutorial
Motomaster oil filter at Canadian tire made by Fram
Did you get the water pump and gasket from the dealer or an auto parts store?
Dmax734 Parts store. I have a hard time paying stealership prices.
True that, looks like mines leaking above the water pump? Not sure what could it be? Intake gasket?
+Dmax734 I just had to replace the intake gasket as well. It was leaking coolant. Thermostat housing is seaping as well. POS 3.8 V6
How hard was it to replace the lower intake manifold gasket? I think that's where mine is leaking
I notice your running green coolant, and using a 3.7 oil filter
Yes, I am using an oversized filter.
what size are the bolts
+Pop Marci I don't recall. Why?
Water pump bolt size are M6 1.0 threads roughly 20mm long. At least for the 3.8l engine it is
I'm trying to take my water pump off

dude what kind of cheap ASS Oil Filter are you running? It's definitely not a K&N.....what you should be using ;-)
