Biggest money saver video yet! Amazon had the gasket for $16, and your free and excellent detailed video, saved me several hundred dollars. Great job and thanks for sharing!
Awesome glad this video helped save you some money!
Big help showing what to expect. Mechanic wanted 350 to do it plus oil...I did it for maybe 60 bucks. No leaks!
Nice, glad this was helpful & saved you some money by doing it yourself
@@JJBanuelos Sorry, should have said Thank You!! above.
Thank you for this video.
Some scumbag told my co-worker that she needed an upper oil pan gasket replaced and that to change it, you need to remove the engine.
They also recommended that since the engine has to come out, she should go ahead and replace it lolllll.
So first I was like wtf is an upper oil pan gasket. Never heard of that in my life.
Then I had to make sure that was an actual thing… then I thought, ok, you must have to remove a lot of components to access the upper oil pan at the very least.
NOPE!!! This proves that they tried to scam her.
This is a quicker task than doing pads and rotors on a jeep.
Thanks again for the video!
Straight to the point and easy to understand with great shots. Thank you, I need to do this soon and I feel ready to go now.
Thanks for the kind words, glad this video was helpful!
Just replaced mine, thanks for the great video. Not too long, not too short, all the info you need, none you don't👍🏼
Appreciate the love!
Your video helped me when I changed this gasket over the weekend. Thanks for taking the time to document this!
D Driscoll that’s great to hear glad I could help!! Thanks for watching please make sure to subscribe! Thanks for the support!
Why can’t every RUclipsr make videos that are straight to the point like this?
I appreciate it the great comment, glad it was helpful & not a waste of time.
I’m not mechanically inclined but I’m confident I can do this. Thanks for the easy to follow video!
Thanks fam! Been neglecting this, never knew it was this simple
No problem, glad this is helping lots of you out there save some money.
I have an 09 JK and have the same oil leak. I've been meaning to change the gasket and your video just reassured me on how to do it. Thank you.
Awesome glad this helped! Thanks for watching!
I just paid $480 to have mine replaced because I had heard that you had to pull the transmission. Shame on me for not doing more research. Could've easily done this thanks to this video :(
Sucks to here that man. Thanks for watching well if it ever leak again you’ll know now. 👍
you made it look very simple, I have the same problem, I thought I need it to bring it to the shop, but after you video I will give it a try
Trust me bro it’s not tough at all. Save yourself over $200 bucks & the satisfaction you did it yourself.
@@JJBanuelos thanks for your vids! keep up the good work!!
this is a life changer, I think I can do it myself now, thank you
Your welcome!
Thank u so much for the tutorial! I am going to tackle this in 2 months or so cause its freezing in Jersey right now! Driveway DIY mechanic here lol!
No problem! Thanks for watching! Hell yeah I bet especially this time of the year!
Followed it and got the job done on my 2011! Great video thank you!
Awesome to hear! Makes me feel great that it helps out others! 👊🏼
I’ve done misc work on my Jeep and previous cars. Your video is reassuring that I can do this too. Thank you

No problem good luck hope it’s helps you out!
That's awesome and looks easy to do I hope I can do mine. Thanks for sharing 👍
No problem thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. I definitely think that’s where my leak is coming from.
Same
@@marlinherneisey7739 it fix my oil leak and now I have another leak to fix which is the transmission pan gasket 😑
@@6.2Slomarosorry to hear that. Gonna try the oil pan gasket once it gets a little warmer out.
Excellent. Obviously the power impact gun or ratchet make life simple.
Thank you for your direct and clear video
It’s the same case and even size for dodge #grand_caravan and #town_and_country.
Good video, straight to the point and informational. Thanks
Thanks you!
Thanks buddy you're a life saver.
No problem. Thanks for watching. 👊🏼
Good video.. I would just add I would not recommend just just putting the bolts in with impact...good way to cross thread....
thanks for clear instructions....the shop manual says to remove the starter for some reason
Nice glad this video was helpful for you. I try to cut out the bs & give you guys just the info that’s needed
Mine is leaking but do you think it would burn through a quart about every 1k miles leaking?
How long should you wait to turn on or even drive the car after you replace the gasket?
I couldn't get the cover back on the ones that go toward inwards wouldn't budge taking it to a mechanic ic hopefully they can get the last 2 in
Successfully replaced mine following your video. Thank you! However, I still have small drops of oil formulating on the shield. I think it’s coming from the driver side valve cover. Any suggestions?
Usually when a leak forms from the driver side valve cover check the hose that’s around the pcv valve it gets old & cracks then oil leaks from there making it look like a valve cover leak.
@@JJBanuelos Thank you!!!
@@JJBanuelos You were spot on! PCV valve hose slid right off. The pcv valve slid right out of the housing. There is no way this was sealed properly. I wonder if replacing the hose and valve will fix my small evap leak code?? Thanks again for all your help. You saved me a lot of time and money!
@@SolusChristus3 oh for sure will help with that check engine light. Will also help your Jeep run a whole better by just repairing that. Glad I could help again. 👍🏻
It's a jeep thing, mine is the same, it's only marking it's territory 🤣 - Great video helped heaps.
Love the video , I was gonna pay someone to do it , but after watching your video I think I’m going to doit myself 🤙
Hell yeah glad I could motivate you into doing it yourself! Thanks for watching & the support!
great video. have to my daughters Jeep. how long should it take.
How did you get the gasket to stay up ? After you pulled them out
I would extremely recommend not to use a blade since it may cut metal use a plastic scrapper instead other then that great video👍
Thanks for the tip. 👊🏼
Is there a recommended order to tighten the bolts?
Great job on the video.
Thanks! Appreciate the support!
Excellent video.
Is the process and seal/gasket the same for a 2018 3.6l? Mine is COVERED in oil just like this one.
Does that lower gasket tend to leak? Is that something to reseal while it’s out or just leave it?
Great vid. Helped me a ton
Thanks!
That actually looks super easy. Is there a tightening sequence for the bolts? Is the process the same for the 3.6?
Is there two gaskets? One for the oil pan adaptor (Cast part) and one for the oil pan (Tin part)?
Thanks for sharing.
Of course thanks for watching
Thank you, helped me out today.
No problem glad it worked for you!
Great video; very helpful. Had my 2010 in the shop for a separate reason, and when I asked about the oil leak, they suggested I just wait 3k miles (I'd just gotten an oil change a week prior) and that whoever changes my oil next should be able to easily replace the gasket at that time. But that if I had them do it that day (the day I had it in the shop), they'd have to drain all the new oil I'd just paid for at my oil change, and my recent oil change would've been for naught. Is that not the case?
They could have just collected the oil that was just used but they’re right. It makes more sense to just add new oil & filter reassures the work was done correctly.
Sounds like you found an honest shop. Most would just say screw you and charge you for the oil change too
Is this the same gasket for 08 jeep wrangler Sahara jku?
Great Video, no BS
Thanks!
What's that nut/extension you are using there? With a little "flex" in it (e.g. at 07:00) ?
Here’s a link to it. They’re super handy!

What oil should I use on my 2008 manual?
Mine doing the same thing,i think i can do it,nice video
Thank you very much
thanks you legend. Regard from Australia.
Thanks 🙏🏻
105 inch pounds? Calculater says that is 8.75 foot pounds. That sound right?
Seems like most of the videos pertain to the upper oil pan gasket. Does the lower one hardly ever fail? I need to replace my upper as well, but wondering if the lower should be replaced to. Oil has run down to it, so not really sure if it's leaking or just from the upper.
Honestly I’ve never seen the lower one leak. If you feel like the lower one might be leaking then I would just go ahead & remove it also & repair it. The lower one just using silicon there is no gasket for it. A wire wire on a drill comes in handy to remove the old silicone.
@@JJBanuelos Ahh, I wondered why Ii wasn't finding the gasket for sale. That makes sense. I think mine is just oil running down from the upper. Thanks and have a good one.
Hi, I'm in Australia working on my Jeep as we speak so if you see this msg now please respond ASAP! :) I bought the same gasket kit as you from the US but mine has a small 0 ring included? Can you please tell me where that will need to be fitted? Cheers
Good information. Thanks
👍
You made it look easy.
But it was a bit of a challenge with a ratchet and me laying down with minimal movement of my fat ass body under my jeep.
Yeah i guess i did lol. Power tools definitely help a lot.
How did you determine it was the upper oil pan gasket and not the lower oil pan gasket or valve cover? Rear main seal?
Wasn’t coming from top when I notice just lower half of engine was covered in oil. Not rear main, once lower trans/engine cover is removed the torque converter is dry. Wasn’t lower oil pan since upper one is wet. Oil can’t move up. Hope this helps. If all else fails just engine degrease the whole thing & watch for oil seepage As time goes. Hope this helps.
Trailblazer Films I am going to replace both upper and lower oil pan gaskets since it’s already off and cheap.
@@JJBanuelos If I'm removing both upper and lower oil pan, should I take the upper off first and then do the lower when it's already off? Or should I take the lower off, finish it, and then the upper? I'm trying to find the most efficient way to do this. Also, is the lower oil pan torque same as upper with 105 inch pounds?
512 TXS If you’re going to do both I would start with the lower one first since it just use a silicone. Since the bottom one is off thank you can go ahead and take the upper one off. And then install the upper and then install the lower one. Can’t find any specs for lower one. I would assume it would be the same as the top ones.
Trailblazer Films Thank you sir
I have the same problem and transmisión
Where can I get that blue upper gasket? Thanks
Follow the link below my description it’ll take you to the right one.
I have a 2014 that is leaking. I am trying to find upper oil pan gasket but no luck. Do you have a link for the part that will fit my vehicle?
Joe Monceballez Try eBay. That’s where I got mine.
What are the clips (spacer) that hold the lines to the upper pan called? Does anyone know where I can find replacements?
Dang! Torque to 105!?!? I just snapped one of my bolts off trying to get to 105.
I believe I said inch pounds not foot pounds on there…
@@JJBanuelos you sure did. I saw 105 and then verified the 105 online and just glossed right over the inch. I'll be having fun tomorrow. It was one of the corner bolts in the rear under that cover. Gonna be hard to get to.
Thanks!
Your welcome hope it was informative enough
When I click on your link for the gasket in Amazon it tells me it does not fit a 2015 jeep wrangler but according to your headings of your video it does.
so does it or does not fit a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon?
Sorry yes this one does not fit the 2015 rubicon but the oil pan is similar. Part gasket is different. I will update my product links. Thanks for letting me know.
How did you torque spec the 10mm bolts to 105 lbs? Is that not too tight?
Inch lb...torque. Not lbs.
@@alanborja5956 Actually, he hammered it on to 400 ft lbs. He did use a 400-ft lb impact wrench out of sheer laziness, after all.
Hey there, this may seem like a silly question but is there a lower oil pan gasket? If so, should I replace both if I have a gasket leak?
What year is your Jeep Wrangler?
@@JJBanuelos 2010 unlimited sport 3.8
On these there’s only one oil pan. On the 2012-18 there’s a upper & lower. Which on those the lower leaks. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching
@@JJBanuelos Thank you so much! Got a big weekend planned now! Oil pan gasket to replace and a cylinder 2 misfire to fix!!
Great video.
Time to crawl under and get mine done.
Thanks for the support!
Hate the fact that every oil change there’s still a good quantity of old oil that remains in the pan, the same issue is in the Duramax engine (1/4 remains in the pan) from Chevy.
4:24 I totally winced.
Yeah prob should have used my holder 😬
Bam, thanks.
No problem 👊🏼
can u provide link for lower shield gasket replacement
Lower oil pan will just use black silicone. Can be purchase any auto parts store.
Good video!
This is also the same for a 4x4?
Yes. This was actually done on a 4x4 Jeep
@@JJBanuelos strange because the mechanics database does not even have this listed as a repair doesn’t even show any labor hours even searched under Upper pan gasket.
What is that gadget called between your socket and extension? I want it bad, looks like a real time saver.
It’s actually a 10mm swivel head on a extension. I have a link to it in my description on where you can purchase it on Amazon. Yeah they work great! Thanks for watching & please make sure to subscribe!
good, i have a question, what torque pounds to install?
Oil pan bolts are 105inch pounds or 9ft lbs. there’s no manufacturer bolt sequence. Thanks for watching & please make sure to subscribe!
@@JJBanuelos If I don't have a torque wrench, can I still do this with normal wrench/rachet?
Wes Dingman yeah for sure you really don’t need a torque wrench it’s just good practice to have. As long as there tight but not super tight it should be fine. You don’t want to have it to tight we’re all the silicone gets pushed out & doesn’t have a good seal.
💯⚡️⚡️⚡️
👊🏼
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Is the same as the rear main seal?
No sir this is completely different. The rear main seal is located between transmission & engine.
How can you tell the difference
When you pull that lower engine cover the one with the 15mm bolts, you’ll see oil coming from higher up past the oil pan indicating a rear main leak.
@@JJBanuelos Hey so I'm trying to figure out where mine is leaking. Can I pull that cover with the 15mm bolts without draining anything first? IE: oil or the transmission fluid? It's just a cover right, not holding any fluids in?
@@peachferrari yes you can just remove to inspect under it without have any fluids draining out.
What would u charge to do job
Labor prob like $200
So sorry I bought a Chrysler product!
Jeep jk is 2007 - 2018 3.8l 07-11 3.6 12-18 new interior came in 2011
Thanks for the info!
Good Job... Glad I am not doing it.
Lol. Thanks for watching
This dude really edited out what he did with the clips that hold the gasket on. Can't make this stuff up...thumbs down 👎🏽
