  • This was my first attempt at something this major on my Jeep. I took much of this video for the intent of helping me reassemble in case I had any issues. Because there are no other videos I could find showing how to do this, I put as much of it together as I could to help repay the community for all the information I could find out there in bits and pieces.
    I think this guy's video will be useful to you as well: • Jeep Wrangler JK Clutc...

    I was stressed about the noise on my jeep but after watching your video it's something a can tackle myself Great video. Lots of details I would miss if I didn't watch your video.
    Thank you!

    One of the best how to videos! The step by step power point is great because you don’t have to keep replaying video to see the details. I did this with a friend who has a lift and a transmission jack and props to you for being able to film this in tight confined area.

    Thanks for this video! I just replaced the throw out bearing and clutch by using this video as a guide. It took me much longer than expected, and lining up the transmission again was by far the hardest part. I wouldn't have been able to do it without your help.Few tips for anyone else who lives in a rust prone area (and a few oopsies I made),- Heat is your friend on rusty bolts.
    - Your rear driveshaft will come out using a drift pin and a large 4-5lb hammer when you use the pilot holes from the rear. A flat head screwdriver will get the other end out.
    - If you replace the pilot bearing, you will most likely need a puller to get it out.
    - Make sure you get all the pieces of the old TOB out of the bell housing.
    - Don't forget to put the foam back over the shifter before raising the transmission back into place and installing the cross member. (I didn't do this)- Your exhaust flange bolts will probably need to be replaced as well.
    - The green transfer case shifter cable retaining clip will probably break and need replacement.- Make sure to Drop the transmission so the shifter nub is below the body of the jeep before separating bell housing from engine.- if you don't have a transmission jack, Use a ratchet strap between the frame rails as a safety measure to avoid death or dismemberment.- If you are using floor jacks, 2 jacks are better than 1.

      Perfect thank you, I'm right at the part to remove the rear drive shaft and couldn't figure out if there was an easy way or not.

      Thank you so much for taking the time to make this incredible video. This is the best I’ve ever seen with the details, I took screenshots of each step…. I will be tackling this job on my 2000 jeep liberty, 3.7 V6 with a six speed
      I know some of the steps will be different in. Both sizes will be different, but this gives me confidence to be able to do it on the ground because I don’t have a lift, thank you again so much for taking the time to make this, it’s helped more than you realize, because some of them probably didn’t comment 🏁🙂😎

    I just want to thank you so much lee. I followed your video step by step over the last couple weeks to change my clutch and release bearing which had gone bad. I can't believe I was able to fix it myself when the dealership quoted me $1600 for the fix. I am so grateful for posting this video you have no idea. It was huge for me and a perfect intro to bigger mechanical projects. I wish i could do more for you than just subscribing and liking this video. It is an excellent video. Thank you a thousand times.

      Swamp Monster Productions - that’s a ridiculous price. Parts including throw out bearing, and flywheel shouldn’t cost over $700 with a little judicious shopping around. Book time is 6 hours. Average of $100 an hour. $1300. Not a penny more. But, dealing with a dealership I see the problem. Any decent transmission shop would get it done for $1200-1300

    Thanks for the reference to my Clutch Slave hydraulic line video. I have been considering taking this job on to replace my TOB. It will be my second one. It's been ticking for 2 years so I'm limping through. Although I COULD do this job I really don't want to lay on the ground for 10 hours wrestling with it. My biggest fear is getting to a critical point that I cannot address and having to flatbed it out to a garage. I'll likely pay a reputable garage to do it when I cannot wait any longer. But I REALLY RESPECT you for doing it and sharing with us all!

    TIP....
    I use 2in ratcheting tiedown straps. Same ones you use you hold down loads in a trailer.hook them across the frame and use them like a sling...this is a long tranny..i put one across the transfer case and mid tranny and bell housing. This will allow you to lower the tranny with out fear of it dropping or tipping off the jack. Loosen one at a time in conjunction with the jack...they work even better to raise and. Anlgn tranny back into place with out fear on tipping or dropping the tranny

    I wish I saw this a few years back. I had to do the same thing on my JK. You did a good job in explaining the sequence of steps and listing the size of bolts. The two things I had the most problems with were the shifter area and the top transmission bolt. Unfortunately I didn't change my clutch when I changed the throw out bearing so I have to do it all again now that my clutch is acting up. Believe me lesson learned. The only other thing I would say is to make sure you put the disc plate in facing the right direction. I had to learn that lesson the hard way when changing the clutch on my Cj. Thanks for the great video.

    • @LeeParks
      @LeeParks  9 лет назад +1

      Cj7 and other Jeeps I also had a heck of a time with the shifter and top transmission bolt. I read enough tips on forums recommending changing both the clutch and release bearing so I figured a couple hundred bucks was worth my time and better safe than sorry. Thanks for the props.

    Taking it to your local garage and having them do it will probably cost you anywhere from $2000-$2500 I would say there is a lot of labor involved the part is not that expensive it’s the labor also I have to replace the fly wheel pressure plate as well thanks for the video Tip

    3rd one in as many months.

    I hope this works. If not I am fixing it once more and selling my 07 jk

    Thanks for taking the time to edit this up. I'm about to help a friend with their 2007 wrangler. I've done WRX STi clutch changes on jackstands, and this appears to be more straight forward. Did you check your pilot bearing for any play or roughness? That's the one tool I don't have--a bearing puller. I do have a harbor freight nearby, though. :D

    Great video Lee. I have a clutchbof my own thst i would love your imput on: i have a 2011 jku and i have changed the clutch master cylinder. My issue is the hydrolic line. I have pressed it back in (without trying to breack it) but it still leaks. Any suggestion? Should i try to press in futher? I did not see an o-ring on it when i removed it. Should i try to add one. I am stuck.

    So in the diagram, it shows the trans coming out without the transfer case. Did you remove the transfer also , or just the trans?
    Doing this to my 09 and curious. Outstanding job btw.

    any more info on getting the exhaust to drop down? it is stuck between a large bracket on the drver side frame and the transfer case. It wont squeeze between that gap I tried jacking the trans all the way up and lowering it all the way down. ive got everything but the trans bolts disconnected. crossmember and trans mount are off and starter is out. rubber hanger just after 2-1 Y is off the rest are still on.

  • @kswyg001
    @kswyg001 9 лет назад +2

    A couple questions- did you pass on removing the starter? From your directions it sounds like you also left the transfer case attached, right? Did you drain the little bit of fluid from the transmission to lighten it up or just go with what you've got??
    The flares are 10mm bolts and clipsandfasteners.com can help people find the clips for a decent price. 120k miles, original owner, annual water runs in the jeep- so I'm certain I'll be doing this soon. Thanks for the video!

    • @LeeParks
      @LeeParks  9 лет назад

      kswyg I guess I forgot to include the details about the starter, but I did wind up disconnecting the starter. Regarding the transfer case, you are correct. I did leave it attached. I also drained the transmission fluid. I made the video several months after actually replacing the clutch and release bearing so I guess I forgot to detail a few things.

  • @bendooley5639

    How did you remove the exhaust. I'm doing this project as we speak. It's been a easy process so far. I just need the exhaust out of the way and four more bolts to drop the Trans

    • @LeeParks
      @LeeParks  9 лет назад +1

      Ben Dooley Sorry this response is so late, I suspect you already completed the job. Anyway,I did not complete remove the exhaust. I did drop the exhaust by removing the flange bolts at the exhaust manifold, remove the O2 sensors and then I used a pry bar to pull the exhaust off of the hangars where the rubber mounts held it in place. Check out step 8 here: ruclips.net/video/WmG9R1f8kxo/видео.htmlm26s

      David Mason I'm at 115k and it's starting to make noise, at least I'm pretty sure it's the clutch. as far as I know everything is original. from what I have seen though my case is very rare, in fact I'm the only one that I know, and most people have to do it by 80k.
