I enjoyed that thank you. Must be something special about the old chippy because its the only building to be saved with the new development going up around it.

Thank you so very much for this episode. I really enjoy your mirrored then and now. I used to drive to work along Barrack St and was impressed by the handsome building that was then Norfolk Chamber of Commerce. As you have shown it had been a 1920s brewery on the corner of Barrack Street and Silver Rd. Anglia TV used it for film sets and I was pleased to be able to see inside when it was on Lovejoy and Tales of the Unexpected. It looked like it had a fine staircase and lovely mosaic floors. I heard that it had been broken into and damaged. You are doing a great service recording these memories. Thanks again 👍👍👍

Thank you, that's very kind. I'm glad you liked the video. Tales of the Unexpected often comes up with "unexpected" city scenes from the past.

Another brilliant Video John, another video that stirred some memories, on a road that you use regularly its only when you see your video's that you suddenly remember buildings that look totally different now but you remember the old look, its the beauty of what you do. My wife used to be a senior manager for the Virgin one account , and used to work in the old brewery offices on occasion, she says it's an amazing period building inside. again thanks

After I moved from Somerleyton 55 years ago to live in Thorp St Andrew just about everything has changed BUT NOT fore the better. Lots of lovely PUBS where you could go to MEET new people have gone, including my local the WOODSIDE on Plumstead RD East .

My neighbour when I moved to Vincent Road in 1994 was a Fred Burrage who was still owner of the Fish and Chip shop on Barrack st. He died several years ago and I`m not sure if this was a much younger Fred pictured in the doorway of the shop in the photograph.

Thanks for your comment. It's a shame that photo was undated, as a date might have given a clue.

Sound research as ever John. Interesting how many local pubs closed pre WW2.

Unrecognisable now sadly. I remember the barracks and brewery. We had a school local studies visit to Bullards from CNS in 1963.

Absolutely vast changes in this area, with more to come. Thanks for your comment.

There have certainly been some significant changes along Barrack Street. I didn't realise St Paul's Church was demolished to make way for the flyover. I would never have guessed from your Facebook post that the view was of Barrack Street. Did anyone guess it correctly in the end?

Used to get chips from that chippy. Line the stomach before going to Central Park.

Barack street is probably the most unrecognisable yet.

I agree with you - and there have been more changes in the short time since I made this video.

As an ex resident of Norwich, I find your uploads of great interest, as a city I thought I knew well, they give me an insight to places with far more significance than I gave previous thoughts to! Will you ever do Hall road, Gordon Square, Trafalgar Street ( and Howards lane ), Cherry close and Southwell Road area as this has most significance to me, growing up in Trafalgar Street... ? Many thanks, and I look forward to seeing more!

Yes I may well do something about those areas next year. Meanwhile, this may be of interest. ruclips.net/video/pYEJF1-2oo4/видео.html
