For those watching this review a year later... a few things. First, the updated their boards to be USB-C. Or at least there barebones compact. I was quite happy to find that out today. Also, they must have updated their caps as well because I ordered two sets (one black, one white) and they look AWESOME. None of the bubbling or imperfections shown. Glorious is one of the few companies that makes changes, and I'm all the more happier for it.
@@davidkim0678 Man oh man. See what an innocent comment can do? I was so excited about my board I just wanted to tell someone, but I normally don't comment on youtube videos. Now I'm glad I did! Dude this is an incredibly solid, in-depth but concise and to-the-point review. I'm glad to be part of the under 50k club because this channel might blow up soon. Personally, I'm going to get the Ducky One 2 Mini because I feel like the prices are similar but the differences are that this one has hot swappable switches which is great for anyone that wants to switch their switches. I'm getting the Ducky because I'm looking for USB-C for convenience, and the RGB is what I really like about it. I personally don't want to change switches because the MX Blacks, based on videos of sound tests are really nice and I feel like they are better as a linear switch for typing because they aren't too light to press, but are still linear (I don't really like my current browns for gaming because that tactile bump is incredibly annoying and noticeable for me in games but never noticeable in typing, at least for me). Still this is a great board because I'm sure there are a lot of people that really want a modular keyboard and you really can't beat this one. I'd say the top 3 60% boards to buy right now are the Anne Pro 2 for its wireless capability and price, this GMMK for its modularity, and the Ducky for its RGB, Macro features and default stabilizers. Again, amazing review, keep it up man.
@@badseedtech I'm going to agree with this ... however late that it is. I just found this channel about a month ago and I've watched 90%. Oh yeah, Brian P, I picked up the GMMK compact, Kaihl silent pinks, and drop Skylight Series keycaps. Coming from a Ducky One 2 mini I can say that this GMMK is right there with it. Not sure if I got lucky but the stabs on this GMMK seem to be pretty good. The only problem I am having with this build, so far, is the Skylight Series spacebar is a little sluggish; but I was having the same problem with this same spacebar on the ducky as well. Thanks for the great reviews and glad I found your channel.

@@colinedwards723 I didn't buy theirs because the default keycaps they sell aren't double shot pbt. (better feeling plastic) you just need keycaps that will fit the "plus sign" style switch. aka cherry gateron or kailh are the main brands that come to mind.
The main reason I've bought this is because I've only actually been on PC for about 5 months and I want to try out a 60% keyboard and some different switches so it's a win win. I was heavily considering building my own hotswap kb before I saw this was coming out
Kailh BOX switches are awesome, the click bar mechanism is miles better than Cherry's traditional click jacket design. Very tactile and has double click, one for downstroke, and for the upstroke! Very fun switch indeed.
Dude, your videos ROCK, can't believe i've never came across your channel before. The voice, the looks, the editing, the camera, the content. Brilliant! Insta-sub!

So glad I came across this. Been looking at the ALT because of the hotswappable switches, but the cost is exorbitant. (The high profile one does look sick though lol) Great video btw.
the massdrop alt high profile came in black literally only reason I wanted it over the alt. Price difference is $179 vs $229. GMMK compact is $59 for board my kalih speed silvers come out to 19.6 for 70 and then found some keycaps I really like for 17.99. Its coming out cheaper than my ducky that Im returning. Luckily, it came with a spacebar issue so I can return it for free.
Man this dude is so great. Finally an American (at least I’m guessing from your accent) who measures using the METRIC system. Thank goodness you’re trying to please literally everyone except Americans 😄
I have the Full size version of this keyboard which I've used for at least 6 months and it's still in excellent condition. My old Corsair keyboard would collect dust and dirt in no time after I clean it, with this keyboard and PBT keycaps it's as clean as when I first got it.. It's the best keyboard I've bought so far. The option of modifying my keyboard really appealed to me and wanted something built with quality, this hit all the check boxes..
I have the e-element z-88 which is a keyboard from amazon that I got for $40. It has the same features as the gmmk. You can switch all the keycaps and the switches. Only difference is that the e-element has the function row on top. So technically, its a 65% keyboard. You should review it. Mine came with gateron box browns but you can get them in other colors too like blue, red, black etc.
Very late comment - but I had to mention this after seeing the weighing and comments about it feeling tough; not that it's fragile, but a lot of that weight comes from lead slugs inside the case. My fullsize model had two. It feels weighty because there are weights inside; the case is actually quite thin and you can bend it without much effort.
Chacko ForthePeople how long ago did you order it? I ordered mine beginning of February and the site says low confidence for them even having it back in stock in April...
Awesome to see a review of this board so quick, was wondering about its quality and your video gave me everything I needed. Noticed you have some Tai-Hao rubber keycaps - what do you think about them?
I like them aesthetically. They have a tendency to get slick if your hands get sweaty. I usually keep the arrows on the wasd keys bc they are different heights. That way if I slip off wasd in a tense moment I can find my way back quickly without having to glance the board.
Hell yea mad love for the Box Whites. Best clicky switch out there imo, due to the click bar system rather than the typical click jacket system MX Blues use. This makes for a much cleaner and tactile click when actuated
finally bought a gmmk compact, but i like the arrow input of RK61 much better. So I use AHS script as follow CapsLock::Send {DOWN} AppsKey::Send {RIGHT} RAlt::Send {LEFT} /::Up ^/:: Send / RShift & /::? RCtrl & Backspace::Send {Del} return
Yeah, I was really surprised to hear that there are people out there that like the black over white top plate but you're definitely not alone on that one.
I currently own the GMMK TKL board, and I ended up having to buy Genuine Cherry stabilizers and upgrade them, the stock ones were that bad. Super rattly. I'm glad they put in better stabilizers in the stock boards now. Other than that gripe I like my GMMK board, it made me realize that brown switches are my favorite, and linear switches just aren't for me.
one they released the compact they improved their stablizers becuase they new that it was a big problem and they even improved their tkl and 100% too but if you bought it before the compact came out then they are the old stabilzers
Dude it almost upsets me how RUclipsrs like this have so much confidence behind the camera plus great video content and quality but aren’t getting as many views and subs as other RUclipsrs which in my opinion aren’t as good.
Nice review and an interesting keyboard, but I've got a Ducky One 2 Mini arriving by the end of this week as well as a set of really cool key caps coming soon, so I'll have to pass this time. :-)
BadSeed Tech haha such a true statement. My ducky one 2 mini just arrived a few days ago but I’m really itching for another keyboard with Gateron switches... this one has caught my interest. Great review!
Thanks for the great review, that's what I've been waiting for. I'm just waiting for my One 2 Mini to arrive, but now I'm unsure. Which keyboard do you like better (and why)?
If you have no interest in swapping switches then it basically all comes down to which one looks better to you. Modular switches aside, they are functionally and ergonomically almost identical. Except that Ducky has the delete key and a FN + Backspace....and that feels more natural to me when I'm editing.
Yo, Brian P. Are you doing a review on the White Ice edition of this? I'm pretty sure it will be similar to this. But I got mine yesterday, and it looks super sweet.
If a switch stops working, you dont have to desolder and resolder again or buy another keyboard you can just buy another switch and put a new one in lol what do you mean too expensive for what you get. It's worth at least 3 keyboards in its longevity
Cherry's switches in general are scratchy, but brown switches in particular are horrendous. I still don't like Gateron browns, but that's because "light tactile" in the MX-style world means "scratchy linear." I am disappointed that they opted not to support PCB-mount switches (the ones with little nubbies on the bottom), so if you wanted Zealios you'd have to mod the switches. Speaking of which, you need to try Zealios if you like tactile switches. They are far, far superior to traditional "tactile" switches. And if you want to go further down the rabbit hole, try building your own switches. My GMMK has Gatistotles in it with custom 67g springs. I made them using the housing from Gateron switches, the slider and click jacket from Aristotle switches, and the springs were ordered from MehKee. They are extremely tactile with a very sharp drop. Excellent switches, but pricey and complicated. If you want to go even further with mechs, get into Alps switches. My daily driver is a KBParadise V60 Mini with Alps SKCM Blue switches and Tai-Hao keycaps. I cannot recommend Alps SKCM Blue strongly enough. It is the best discrete clicky switch ever made.
@@badseedtech ha! I agree with Dayne you should definitely try Zeal PC Zealios, they are some of the best switches you can get. And if you want the best out of your switches you should also consider lubing them with Tribosys or Krytox, they make what is good even better. At the very least look up how to mod the stabilizers so you can get rid of the horrendous rattle of standard 'dry' stabs. After that if you really want to go down the rabbit hole, or more like beyond the event horizon of the black hole, you can get into custom boards. There are some great build streams to watch but these are long videos. For some good short videos you can check out Chokkan or Manofinterests and see if it is something you would like to get lost in. :)
I wish that i would have found his video earlier, because i have already bought like 3 different keyboard because i wanted a bit of variation on the swtiches.

As for your question about the longevity of the hot swap sockets. They are Kailh hot swap sockets and they are rated at a 100 hot swaps.
Clean! Black top plate is something I prefer
Yeah, I was really surprised to hear that there are people out there that like the black over white top plate but you're definitely not alone on that one.
Dude being able to switch the mechical click is INSANE
That's already pretty common in the mech community and yet, that a share of people that still favor plain soldering.
@@vaz4043 nah... Depends on your skill and how methodical you are. Some take hours, up to 10 even, some do it in 40 minutes or less.
I just went and bought this and the Zowie S2 for this Black Friday sale and I couldn’t be happier got this bad boy got like 80$
some high Quality Content and im wondering why this guy only has 37k
Best tech reviewer but doesn’t have a ton of subs? Madness
I currently own the GMMK TKL board, and I ended up having to buy Genuine Cherry stabilizers and upgrade them, the stock ones were that bad. Super rattly. I'm glad they put in better stabilizers in the stock boards now. Other than that gripe I like my GMMK board, it made me realize that brown switches are my favorite, and linear switches just aren't for me.
surprised you say linear switches aren't for you but like browns lol. they basically feel linear to me with a tiny tiny scratch
The backspace has a little more play than I'd like but they don't rattle for sure. They embarrass the stabs on the ALT and that board is big money.
one they released the compact they improved their stablizers becuase they new that it was a big problem and they even improved their tkl and 100% too but if you bought it before the compact came out then they are the old stabilzers
Dude loved the video as always. Thanks for your hard work. Redoing my office right now and this 60% is tempting
Loving those universe wallpapers! 😍
Loving these reviews.
Dude it almost upsets me how RUclipsrs like this have so much confidence behind the camera plus great video content and quality but aren’t getting as many views and subs as other RUclipsrs which in my opinion aren’t as good.
Tyler Blevins he will get there brother you watch he’s gonna take off for sure.
Subbed for the beard boss♥️
Oh and the tech reviews too 😛
I have the full sized version with box navy switches and omg I love it! Gmmk is awesome.
I'm really loving them lately - as I type this on my XXL deskmat and wrist rest lol
Those HE-4XX on the back are the real MVP of this video, best headphones I have ever bought
1:00 Best thing about the keyboard
This video is extremely helpful thanks a bunch!
Nice review and an interesting keyboard, but I've got a Ducky One 2 Mini arriving by the end of this week as well as a set of really cool key caps coming soon, so I'll have to pass this time. :-)
Hell, anyone who has resisted the urge to buy a One 2 Mini by now is a stronger man than me. 😅
BadSeed Tech haha such a true statement. My ducky one 2 mini just arrived a few days ago but I’m really itching for another keyboard with Gateron switches... this one has caught my interest. Great review!
Not a single moment during this video was I not interested. Good shit man I really hope you blow up!
Thanks brother, I appreciate it!
review accurate and no bull. love your work.
I love this guy 2 years ago had basically the same exact quality as he has right now
Thanks for the great review, that's what I've been waiting for.
BadSeed Tech Thank you very much for your answer. I got the One 2 Mini yesterday and I am very happy so far. I think I'll stick with it.
I used your code to buy this keyboard great video thx :)
been trying to watch all your videos and get caught up and like lol
I rate those edits!
Yo, Brian P. Are you doing a review on the White Ice edition of this? I'm pretty sure it will be similar to this. But I got mine yesterday, and it looks super sweet.
5:22 really useful, the default key binding is painful
Nice review i love the anne pro 2 and don’t like this keyboard because it’s too expensive for what you get but i loved watching this review:)
too expensive for what you get how???
Oh man .....seems I'm only getting started down this rabbit hole.
Now you are the man with the glorious beard
I just got a one 2 mini and I like it a lot, I don't see myself changing switches really. But the fomo is real
I wish that i would have found his video earlier, because i have already bought like 3 different keyboard because i wanted a bit of variation on the swtiches.
What microphone do you use?
I got this keyboard with lubed gateron yellow switched and the aura keycaps and it looks and feels great
