Thank you for this video. There is very few content on this knife. I think it looks absolutely awesome for one like me that is into knifey knives, simple efficient designs. I just bought it, and I have to say that it does not fit my hand very well except for the choke-up position, but it is also the case of similar size spydercos. The contouring and milling on the handle is awsome, and Viper charges only around 30 for titanium over micarta, and that is amazing. Of course, the blade stock is thick af and it will not be the best slicer. I find the clip to be thick and to create a hotspot in the palm. The hard titanium ridges have hotspots too in my personal hand. I think it would be comfortable for someone with small hands, but it is not neutral enough for my long fingers to adapt easily. However, I like the knife very much. It won’t be the best edc, but I have many «best edc» with nice steel already. This is a grail knife. Titanium, magnacut, crowned spine, fantastic jimping, very nice satin, contouring, micromilling… all that for 217€, it is a dream, I had to seize it. Would a Deka have been more useful as a tool, of course, but this is very much nicer.

How good is the heat treat and what’s the rockwell hardness on their Magnacut?

Viper's website lists 60-62 HRC, so (if I understand Magnacut sufficiently) they're probably following Crucible's recommended heat treatment datasheet, except they might not be able to do a cryo treatment. For context, Crucible's data sheet gives a range of 60-63, but without cryo, you're looking at an average of 61-62, which lines up pretty well with what Viper is offering.
For what it's worth, though, as far as I'm aware, 61-62 is the HRC Larrin Thomas used when he ranked Magnacut alongside other steels-where it got a 7/10 in toughness, a 5/10 in edge retention, and a 9.5/10 in corrosion resistance-because he tried to be conservative about it's qualities. Obviously, some people like to push it higher, aiming for 63-64 for more edge retention, but-according to Larrin himself-that does lose out on some of Magnacut's toughness (though it's nowhere near as steep of a drop as you'd find for other steels).

It would be better to have no thumb studs rather than thumb studs that get in the way of the blade when cutting,
