To be honest, covering hits from the past is a market. Good music and a lot of fun to play. And the MODX does this job flawless at a very fair pricepoint. The Montage is a very nice synth, too, but rather for people with the better paid gigs.

Thanks Eddie I hope you’re enjoying the sounds. You use the scene buttons to switch between the parts of a song such as verse, refrain, chorus and bridge. If you mean changing between performances, you can use the buttons on a Montage to quickly access different live set slots or patches within category search. Not on the MODX though.

Gavin Truesdel there are lots of tutorial videos here on RUclips about the Montage itself and synthesis in general. Just experiment with the instrument and play around with the different parameters and see how changes in a setting affects the sound. It’s a lot of trial and error in the beginning but that’s where the fun is. The Montage is a pretty deep instrument and there’s a lot to it. There are online communities on Facebook and with Yamaha themselves that support users of the Montage as well.
@TimiShorul My sounds work on a MODX as well that's why it is in the title in spite of me just playing the Montage. You're right! the MODX is less than half the price of a Montage for about 85% of the functionality, which is exactly why the MODX has been a bestseller.
Have these sounds been uploaded directly into the Montage or have you had to use a DAW Software to upload it first. I’m thinking of buying one of these but I’m not clued up on computer technology that much Really appreciate any feedback thanks Great work btw 👍
Thanks Scott. You get a download link upon purchase. Download the file to your computer and unzip the file. Instructions to load the X7L file included in the download. It's very simple and straightforward. Sounds are stored in a separate location from your User and Preset sounds as well.

Great voices. But of course it lacks the styles of a good arranger. So what for to pay such a high price on a machine like this ? If anybody out there has the answer let me know 👍
Aurelio Nunes it’s meant for sound creation, live performance in a band or recording in a studio. The arrangers have limited sound creation and editing capabilities. Styles and backing are not the main function of a Synth Workstation but rather the creation of original sounds or a full arrangement with the use of a DAW. It’s like comparing an F1 Car and a Rally Car. Both very capable machines each with a different purpose.
The possibilities to tweak the sound are seemingly endless with the Montage or the MODX. That‘s why you buy a synth like this. But both also inherited the arpeggiator function of the Motif. That is very underrated to my opinion. It can be used similiar to the accompanyig feature of an arranger keyboard, but it has the advantage not to sound like an arranger keyboard. It is not the best instrument for cover musicians, shure, but ideal for musicians who want to create their own things. That was one of the basic ideas of the Motif although most people used it as an allround synth and digital piano on stage or in the studio.

How do I add something to the scene?
How do you switch beetween sounds/performance withou the sound disaperring?
When creating scenes, use the KBD CTRL option instead of MUTE to switch between parts.
That kind of soft Brassy electric piano around 0:30 with the left hand kind of sounds like the Yamaha Gs-1 that was used in Toto’s Africa
got this pack today. there is a lot going on with always something there.. is there a trick to change out patches other than pressing the screen?

Gary Dillon I’ve got a custom performance included in the pack. It’s mainly an electric grand piano and various layered synths.
Can you also play like an orchestra, or is this better to do in a DAW and external plugins?

britesynth the Program doesn’t die with smooth sound transition... it doesn’t switch fast enough for some of them though
Since some of the sounds have an arpeggio, Switching programs stops the arpeggio but doesn’t cut off the sounds themselves.
