No, the Durango isn't built on the same same chassis as the prior generation GLS. It's built on the same platform as the prior generation GLE, as those were some of the last products to come out of the Daimler-Chrysler venture.
i would get the mercedes too if i had an extra 50-60k laying around lol. i would still get the hellcat for the performance and simplicity. more tech equals more problems.

16:00 I knew you car people would eventually get it.... I love a McLaren... But I can drive a Porsche cayenne gt every day... It's pretty obvious to me what I'd get if I can only have one.
I do love modern dumb cars. A few years ago it would be something like a CTS V wagon, or a Ford SVT Lightning and in a few years, and well now, it's a model S. Stupid useless speed for the sake of it, is just fun. I do love what Dodge, Mopar, FCA, Stellantis, whatever you want to call it is doing, they are trying to give the public as many dumbass cars that they can. Meanwhile Mercedes/AMG has always given us really dumb, useless but sometimes also really fast amazing cars. If the make a special edition Dodge Caravan Hellcat Final edition, I'd probably try to buy one, honestly.
A great video. I keep thinking about the $60,000 difference. That’s not pocket change. For that money, yes it should be more elegant and more bells and whistles. As far as performance, it also greatly depends on the driver and how good they are.
The info about "the prior GLS" chassis underpinning the Grand Cherokee and Durango is not accurate. The ML used a platform that was built specifically for the ML. The GL used a modified ML platform that is built just for the GL/GLS. Though the ML and GL shared platforms, their actual chassis were vastly different. A stripped(not to say it was cheap, but that it was modified to use with parts that Jeep had vs what Mercedes had, which forced changes in angles, diameters, etc) down version of the ML chassis was then given to Jeep to use on the Jeep Grand Cherokee. They then took that JGC chassis and modified it again for use on the Durango since it didn't need to be as durable and offroad capable. The only things similar between a Durango and GL/GLS chassis is that they're both bade of steel, they are all super ridged frame designs, and they still are very capable and have shown to be nearly indestructible and impervious to wear. It's one of the reasons this is the best Durango that has ever come out IMO.
Excuse me because im not really sure what you are getting at... But the Durango chassis was based off of the 1 gen GL and likewise for the 2nd gen ML to the grand cherokees starting in 2011 I think those are the WK2's.
You really didn’t hear the supercharger from the outside. Sure heard it inside though. I think it’s the intake on this one. Of all of the Hellcat variations, for me this was the most boring. Other than the noise, it’s just stale imo.
It doesn't make sense to buy these type of SUVs, but it's badass! It eats gas like no tommorow, but it's BadAss! You or one of your family members gonna have an early heart attack when you hit 0-60 in about 3.5 in a 5700 lb vehicle! Well all I can say is...BADASS! 😎👍
Supercars see completely unnecessary. That's why I like em. Just like why I like Supercar suvs. No one NEEDS an X6M cs, a gle coupe, or a cayenne gt. Which makes me want one so much more.... In fact, I love the super suv because it's even more absurd and to top it off, it pisses everyone off. Tree huggers, car enthusiasts, etc. It's truly worth every penny. A
This was a stupid matchup, and that’s from somebody who has both or had both. I have a funny feeling my Dodge Durango hellcat will be worth more than my AMG would’ve been in 10 years. Mercedes is always known for luxury and dodge is not. It’s almost a work truck but fast and that’s what I like about my Durango, and you’re not trying to get the most bang for your buck if you have money you buy what you want. I see a lot of celebrities in hellcats, and they could afford Ferraris. Shaq just had an awesome hellcat built. Jay Leno has I half a dozen of them My Durango hellcat just feels like a muscle car something none of my AMG’s ever felt like.
I’m having a lot of fun with my dodge Durango hellcat more than my two Mercedes AMG’S I had ,more than my range rover super sport I had. when you work hard & you’re successful, you buy what you want. and again, I think down the line the Durango hellcat will be worth more and not too far down the line. This is the first car. I plan on keeping for a while, and I usually get rid of cars every 3 to 4 years. I’m going to have fun with this for a few years, I still have my Alfa, Romeo, Stevia and I plan on buying a bronco convertible as that was what I was buying before I decided I wanted the Dodge Durango hellcat. Will I buy another Mercedes again sure but I’ve had a dozen or close to a dozen over the last 20 years. One of my favorite Mercedes was a GL 550. So I could see me getting something similar to that in the future. I also have a deposit on the cyber truck for the last two years who knows when that’s going to drop. I’m just leaving that my deposit in in case it ever comes out. But again by what you like people don’t worry what someone else tells you to like and if anyone is on the fence about the Dodge Durango hellcat it’s a lot of fun the fit and finish isn’t as good as Mercedes but that’s expected because this is like a real SUV. I had a few Cadillacs in the past and they fit and finish wasn’t like Mercedes neither actually Mercedes probably has the best fit and finish if that’s what you’re going for but again, I’m having a lot of fun in my Durango hellcat , and to be honest it gets more attention than my last two AMG’S put together
20 years time you’ll still be able to go out to the garage and fire up your hell cat and go for a spin, I bet that Mercedes’ won’t even be on the road because it’ll be mechanical totalled!
I’ve owned Amg my whole life never have I had a problem. You look like a copy and paste kind of guy, And your display pic tells me you work at Dairy Queen maybe stick to that🥴
I couldn't afford the Hellcat version... so I got the next best thing: the 392. It's also a beast of a naturally aspirated motor. Love it dearly.

They are Mercedes fans here to hate on dodge. The Durango would poop on the Mercedes. For the 60k more tag, you could have a better Durango. Also the crazy markups on Mercedes
Durango 👍💪🇺🇸
No, the Durango isn't built on the same same chassis as the prior generation GLS. It's built on the same platform as the prior generation GLE, as those were some of the last products to come out of the Daimler-Chrysler venture.
i would get the mercedes too if i had an extra 50-60k laying around lol. i would still get the hellcat for the performance and simplicity. more tech equals more problems.
Happy new year guys! Looking forward to when you can both get back over and visit us again at the Nürburgring, would be great to see you and catch up! Get you out of the super SUVs and back into real supercars, haha!

Jonathan! - Thanks for watching. We're intending to be back this Fall and hoping to bring a good sized group with us. We miss being there!
Durango 👍👍👍🤘🤘🤘
Gents, kudos on the sound in this piece. I don't know if it was you or my device, but I heard the spatial imaging throughout the video. I'm giving credit to you. Well done!
We have directional audio in all of our TV comparison episodes and feature films. Glad you enjoyed, and thanks for watching!
Older AMG GLS63 x166 5.5l still sounds better then the new AMG GLS63 4.0l. The looks I'll still have to give the older GLS 0.02¢
Dodge!!!!! Have the best sports lineup to anybody
Off course we do pedal to the metal with our family on the Autobahn!🔥🇩🇪

Go look at a 2017 gle amg.....
It is the 60k difference 😂
Mind you Mercedes is adding 30k for a market adjustment 😂
Never compare a piece of shit with diamond. U can’t even compare a 2024 Dodge with 1980 Mercedes
Guarantee you will have a lot more fun in the Durango. You have to drive one before you judge it
? - we did drive it. We hope you saw this whole video.
so sad hellcats are going to be no more after 2023 :(
The info about "the prior GLS" chassis underpinning the Grand Cherokee and Durango is not accurate.
Just like the underpinnings of a Charger/300/Challenger are from a MB E-Class of 15+ years ago…the ride quality reflects the dated design.
Excuse me because im not really sure what you are getting at... But the Durango chassis was based off of the 1 gen GL and likewise for the 2nd gen ML to the grand cherokees starting in 2011 I think those are the WK2's.
@@BrokeLogic Sorry to inform you, but your statement is incorrect. It’s exactly as I described above.
@@KingSemajCHI True. It might be old, but I still think the 300 offers a pretty good ride. It’s not seasoned to carve canyons.
@@KingSemajCHI ohh there’s a lot of cars out now days that ride way worse than the chargers/300. It’s definitely a decent ride considering the age
Ill go for Durango aggressive 🐯
Filming location....which part of Colorado??
Appreciate all the work you folks put in. Btw, insane landscapes. Where did you guys shoot this?
i believe utah
@@patrickd1805 thanks 👍
Not sure if it's your audio setup or the intake tuning but this hellcat lacked the crazy amount of SC wail that makes other variants so spicy 😆
You really didn’t hear the supercharger from the outside. Sure heard it inside though. I think it’s the intake on this one. Of all of the Hellcat variations, for me this was the most boring. Other than the noise, it’s just stale imo.
Intakes are ready online
It was poor recording on the channels part. You can hear the whine quite easily in the Durango.
They are wrong, because the durango will be an appreciating classic.
I thought this was a StraightPipes video briefly when I glanced at the thumbnail.
Same!
7:41 that’s super cool actually
I’ll get the Durango. Bigger, faster, more reliable, will hold up better, cheaper in price and cooler.
Also the kids can be kids. No worry about stains and crying when your white seat is red
Great review masterclass journalism 👏
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
Image quality has improved!
three words. Excellent Review, Period!!!
Glad to have you watching. Thank you!
I want the Durango! It’ll be a future classic for sure.
Well now the Escalade V is out. How about comparing that to the GLS 63
Yes GLS AMG over Hellcat but what about the GLS vs Hellcat since that’s a comparable price point? Does the luxury outweigh the fun.
The nissan Z sounds like it will be what u want Todd
I love my Durango Hellcat. Save me $60k to add “Mo Power Baby!”
On those roads, even a Camry looks good!
Oof that’s a stretch. A Camry only looks good with your eyes shut
@@Mac-xh8zl 😮😶😂😂😂
Supercars see completely unnecessary. That's why I like em. Just like why I like Supercar suvs. No one NEEDS an X6M cs, a gle coupe, or a cayenne gt. Which makes me want one so much more.... In fact, I love the super suv because it's even more absurd and to top it off, it pisses everyone off. Tree huggers, car enthusiasts, etc. It's truly worth every penny. A
Yeah if you live in Aspen, the GL/AMG is definitely what you want.
In SoCal that’s overkill, we still want the E or S Klasse.
There use no such thing as 60 thousand stretch dollars. So a 93k GLS is worth it over the hellcat?
Cool information 😎
Compare that mercedes with jeep grand wagoneer
Maybe you gentlemen are looking for a Grand Wagoneer Hellcat?
20 years time you’ll still be able to go out to the garage and fire up your hell cat and go for a spin, I bet that Mercedes’ won’t even be on the road because it’ll be mechanical totalled!
Right, because Dodge is known for their reliability 🙄
@@Mac-xh8zl if something does go wrong it won’t cost four time the value of the car to get it going again
I’ve owned Amg my whole life never have I had a problem. You look like a copy and paste kind of guy, And your display pic tells me you work at Dairy Queen maybe stick to that🥴
@@joeyamg4560 maintaining will run you close to the price of a Durango after 4 yrs
