Janis is by far my all-time favorite.....saw her live.....shows my age! But Joss is as close as it gets.........she has a problem, no one to write quality material for her.....it is truly tragic. Good Luck....Joss, there has to be someone out there. You are fabulous.
Joss is unique amongst 'cover' singers. She will take a good song - but she doesn't try to copy the singing style of the original singer, she puts her own sound and style to it, - I think she is one of the most UNDERRATED singers alive today, and to top it all off what a voice - - - NO electronic alteration needed. She is simply - superb.............
What you hear is pure Joss and nothing else. - That's why Dave Stewart likes working with her so much she puts her own interpretation on a song and that's what you get ...........
Christopher Lovelock Everything you said here is more true of Haley Reinhart than Joss Stone, go check out Haley's cover of this song and all her performances on American Idol, God Bless The Child - Haley Reinhart with Irvin Mayfield, Can't Help Falling In Love With You and all her recent works with PMJ - especially Creep, Habits, Seven Nation Army, Black Hole Sun, et al. From a vocal and musicality viewpoint, nobody is as good all round as Haley Reinhart who can sing ANY GENRE well, has incredible vocal range and control, with many unique inflections and the ability to transition from light ethereal tonal qualities to raw growly rock or killer jazz. All cleverly done with inflections, subtle pantomimes, and poignant push with her unique vocals - and investing it with her own oomph and panache: scat, yodel, growl, whistle, do riffs and runs. Haley gives us goosebumps because she is able to put the emotion in every single note and sings the lyrics like she lived them. Her eye-candy good looks, musical talents, unique voice, and live performance panache makes her truly one of the most unique, dynamic and talented singers of this era.
wow really you have seen Janis Live? I envy you a little..... :-) I love her, with my band i have played same song ruclips.net/video/i4HCNbzPPnc/видео.html
Ciao joss. Sono un tuo grande ammiratore. Volevo dirti che per quanto mi riguarda sei la più grande di quest' epoca. Sei anche una persona meravigliosa e onesta. E ti auguro tutto il bene di questo mondo. Bye Queen ❤
Elizabeth Rages. The trouble with the young - (record buying public) of today is they have known nothing other than "autotune" rubbish so that is what they buy. The 'modern' singers of today can't sing either so that is what they have to use , - or mime to the words. Several have been caught out when the track has failed and they are left standing on stage opening their mouths with nothing coming out. Personally I find it rather amusing when that happens. Katy Perry is a very good example of that to name just one.
Great recreation of Janis Joplin's hairstyle at her 1967 Monterey Pop Festival appearance, and a unique & original vocal approach, a class act all the way.
If you knew a little bit of Joss Stone's career, you should understand that she's not copying Janis (not Janice) in any way. On the contrary, she admires her. So, please don't comment without arguments. Thank you.
Correction: Janis was a cover too, the original was by Erma Franklin - sister to Aretha Franklin. Not many, if any, has the passion that came from janis though.
The song is a Jerry Ragovoy and Bert Berns creation, first recorded by Erma Franklin. That is the way the story used to go in showbiz: first two typical Jewish American middle class composers create a song specifically for a black singer of their label, and after reaching #62 on Billboard, the cover by a white singer reaches #12, and nobody remembers anything but the white cover.
Tranquilo Juan. Obviamente. Es solo que si escuchas a una y a otra se ocurre la comparación. Todo es cuestión de gustos. Joss es maravillosa. Me encanta. Soy ahora su fan.
Well, come on, come on, come on, come on Didn't I make you feel Like you were the only man? Well, yeah And didn't I give you nearly everything that a woman possibly can? Honey, you know I did And each time I tell myself that I Well I think I've had enough But well I'm gonna show you, baby That a woman can be tough I want you to come on, come on, come on, come on and take it Take another little piece of my heart now, baby (Oh, oh, break a-) Break another little bit of my heart now, darling, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (Oh, oh, have a-) Have another little piece of my heart now, baby Well you know you got it if it makes you feel good Oh, yes indeed You're out on the streets looking good And baby, deep down in your heart I guess you know that it ain't right Never, never, never, never, never, never hear me when I cry at night Babe, and I cry all the time But each time I tell myself that I Well I can't stand the pain But when you hold me in your arms I'll sing it once again I said come on, come on, come on, come on, yeah, take it Take another little piece of my heart now, baby (Oh, oh, break a-) Break another little bit of my heart now, darling, yeah (Oh, oh, have a-) Have another little piece of my heart now, baby Well you know you got it, child, if it makes you feel good I need you to come on, come on, come on, come on, yeah, take it Take another little piece of my heart now, baby (Oh, oh, break a-) Break another little bit of my heart, now darling, yeah, c'mon now (Oh, oh, have a-) Have another little piece of my heart now, baby You know you got it, whoa Take it Take another little piece of my heart now, baby (Oh, oh, break a-) Break another little bit of my heart, now darling, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (Oh, oh, have a-) Have another little piece of my heart now, baby, hey You know you got it, child, if it makes you feel good Tradu în română
Great cover. More Irma Thomas than Janis. That's not a bad thing. I used to idolize Janis, but as the years go by....not so much. I love that Joss loves the classics!
Guitar solo was so weak. But I feel for the guy, because I play lead in a cover band myself, and it's often really hard to get a solo to stand out. The soundman is really the one at fault here, since he should have turned the guitarist's volume up and maybe gave him some reverb. But this is life in a cover band. It's an endless struggle for perfection.
Very difficult to compare SOUL with the BLUES. Covering Janis J seems almost impossible, but she did it in her own way. Still, I like Janis' more, she sounds more truthful.
Nobody here is trying to compare both singers. I wrote this a few coments ago. Janis was a great performer, Joss is another great artist, too. She loves Janis but makes her own music since 13 years ago and at this time made a tribute. Both are incredible.
This is gonna be an unpopular opinion, but here it is: Joss Stone is an undeniably great talent, but shouldn't try to do stuff like this. Whether her fault or not, they managed to take ALL of the soul out of this song. The original was great because it WASN'T overproduced. It was raw, pleading, sung by a fragile voice that'd had enough. When you put too much slick on top of something like that, it rarely works out.
I really like Stone, but this version is no where near as good, for my taste as the original. The guitar lead is not as pronounced, at all, especially in the intro. Maybe it was the pro mixing in the original recording, I don't know. This sounded really bland compared to Big Brother and the Holding company.
all of you bands playing Janis Joplin songs and not ONE of you guys can count.... Did you ever even listen to this song? Or did someone lie to you and tell you how sexy and great you sounded and instead of really doing the song any justice, you just let the praise go to your heads and never learned the correct bpm's of the song?
This woman can sing she is killing it sing it girl Janis would be proud

it's takes lots of confidence to take on a song made immortal by Janis but man Joss truly knows how to bring justice to it with her impeccable voice.
Joss is unique amongst 'cover' singers. She will take a good song - but she doesn't try to copy the singing style of the original singer, she puts her own sound and style to it, - I think she is one of the most UNDERRATED singers alive today, and to top it all off what a voice - - - NO electronic alteration needed. no fucking auto-tune either!
What you hear is pure Joss and nothing else. - That's why Dave Stewart likes working with her so much she puts her own interpretation on a song and that's what you get ...........

Brilliant as always, Joss! Technically incorrect to call this a Janis cover though. Janis's version was itself a cover of Irma Franklin's original

Maravilloso Cover de una grande. Pero.......Janis sigue aún siendo la reina.
Joss no pretende copiar a Janis ni disputar coronas estereotipadas, simplemente la ama y le rinde tributo. Saludos!

Well, come on, come on, come on, come on
Didn't I make you feel
Like you were the only man? Well, yeah
And didn't I give you nearly everything that a woman possibly can?
Honey, you know I did
And each time I tell myself that I
Well I think I've had enough
But well I'm gonna show you, baby
That a woman can be tough

Take another little piece of my heart now, baby

Break another little bit of my heart now, darling, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
(Oh, oh, have a-)
Have another little piece of my heart now, baby
Well you know you got it if it makes you feel good
Oh, yes indeed
You're out on the streets looking good
And baby, deep down in your heart
I guess you know that it ain't right
Never, never, never, never, never, never hear me when I cry at night
Babe, and I cry all the time
But each time I tell myself that I
Well I can't stand the pain
But when you hold me in your arms
I'll sing it once again
I said come on, come on, come on, come on, yeah, take it
Take another little piece of my heart now, baby
(Oh, oh, break a-)
Break another little bit of my heart now, darling, yeah
(Oh, oh, have a-)
Have another little piece of my heart now, baby
Well you know you got it, child, if it makes you feel good
I need you to come on, come on, come on, come on, yeah, take it
Take another little piece of my heart now, baby
(Oh, oh, break a-)
Break another little bit of my heart, now darling, yeah, c'mon now
(Oh, oh, have a-)
Have another little piece of my heart now, baby
You know you got it, whoa
Take it
Take another little piece of my heart now, baby
(Oh, oh, break a-)
Break another little bit of my heart, now darling, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
(Oh, oh, have a-)
Have another little piece of my heart now, baby, hey

Nah...the blokes shit
Or maybe he just sucks.
Love the twist on this piece by JJ.....I like.....Shalom Dr. Hanoch Moskowitz MD FACS ABU MENSA and JULIE KRIENKE BSN MSN FNP
She refuses to sell herself. THAT is why she's not getting airplay. And she's too good to sing along to.
Janis come again as Joss
Alex Milosev same thing i been saying!
pas du niveau de janis joplin mais la meilleur interprétation depuis .....Very Good...!!!
I value everyones opinion here, except for the 21 dislikes are you serious!!!

Great version of a great song. However, my favourite is still Irma Franklin's cover.......don't know why.
best white soul ever
I don't know much about Joss but comparing her with Janice Joplin..... Joss sings, Janice shouted.
Janis
I agree - there were many parts of Janis's songs where she shouted... I wonder if it was because of the drugs and hard booze she drank!
Joss sings soul, Janis sang blues. Both are/were great singers.
Indeed. Janis was, and still is, a Goddess.
There will only EVER be one Janis.
the guitarist messed up the solo
PLEASE HOLLYWOOD...CAST HER AS JANIS NOT PINK!!!
HUH? WHAT? THEY'RE DOING A JANIS MOVIE? IMPOSSIBLE... WAIT, WHAT, PINK?!!!!!!! GET THE FUKK OUTTA HERE... PINK SUCKS!
Elizabeth Rages look up pink singing me and bobby mcgee
Janus meant it, joss just records.
Je préfère la version originale !

Maybe it was the pro mixing in the original recording, I don't know. This sounded really bland compared to Big Brother and the Holding company.
Music is WAY too loud, killing the vocals. Shame.
Great singer in general, but this version did not capture the soul of Janis.
