I don't know if you are aware of this. Her English video is a brilliant close up of her hands and in multiple colours. So easy to follow. Take a look at her English video. She talks us through it. You should do tutorial of this in different colours did you see the coloured cushion Bianca does with this popcorn. Popcorn stitch has been around since I learned to crochet (45+ years ago) , probably longer than that. I think the pattern is probably new and unique. I’ve never seen it done from the center. It’s cute and probably super snuggly.
So I began by making a slip knot and putting it on my hook, then made 7 chains, then slip stitched back into the very first chain that I created. That is what creates the ring that all the popcorn clusters will build off of. That initial ring does not need to be synched closed since it is not a magic circle. Is that what you are referring to?
You can do the pattern however suits you. I was simply making an English version of the stitch in case anyone wanted that after watching the other lady's video.
No!!! I'm actually still working my way through this blanket, SLOWLY, because I got distracted with other projects. I have no idea what to use as a border when I'm done. If you think of something nice let me know ;)

Wouldn't doing 5 double crochet decrease in same spot be more efficient?

Are you doing a ch 4 between every cluster or only in the corners?
The is a chain of 4 between every cluster - along the sides and at the corners as well :)
