Hi Dana! Most often, double stitches are found in the middle of a row or round, and not right at the beginning. If they occur on the very first stitch of a row, then there would be no knit fabric created at all! If you're seeing this in a pattern, would you be able to let us know what pattern it is? We'd need to take a look at the context in order to explain this in more depth. Thanks!
