Here's my trick to work German Short Rows in the round with beautiful results, avoiding that ugly hole/stretched out stitch that you get when you resume working in the round after working German Short Rows.
Note: Please first watch my German Short Rows tutorial to familiarize yourself with the basic German Short rows method.
The "double stitches" (ds) on RS and on WS are worked as usual and "resolved" as usual EXCEPT for the last ds.
I am only including detailed instructions below about my way of "resolving" the LAST ds.
Note: This video shows 2 sets of short rows worked in stockinette in the round.
Video markers:
ds on the WS: 0:27 and 2:13
ds on the RS: 1:10 and 3:32
resolve ds on RS: 1:40 and 4:29
resolve ds on WS: 3:02
resolve LAST ds in a modified way when resuming working in the round: 4:50
INSTRUCTIONS:
To resolve the LAST ds when resuming working in the round:
Knit to 1 st BEFORE last ds, then do a modified ssk (slip, slip, knit) as follows: Slip st as if to knit with yarn held in back, then carefully slip first "leg" of ds as if to purl with yarn held in back (leaving second "leg" of ds on left needle). Now insert the left needle tip through the front of the two slipped stitches, and then tightly knit those two stitches together from this position. Knit second "leg" of ds through the back loop, then continue knitting as per pattern, knitting the first few stitches tightly.
(Note: there's a couple of points in the video where it looks like I'm wrapping the yarn twice around the needle but I'm not!)
Best ever short row video, finally I could figure out how to knit nicely those double stitches even if I start with the longest short row, and knit (finish) all the double stitches in one round, at the end. From 5:00 it is amazing, I could not find it in any other german short rows in the round videos! Thanks!
Yessss! that's the solution I've been looking for -- when you knit all the way around and come back to that GSS - how to knit it without making an ugly, twisted loose stitch. -- Ingenious. Thank you so much.
how did she figure that out !? That's intuitive tolpological insight many mathematicians (and knitters) would envy
Thank you so much! I've been working on a face warmer and the return round GSR was the bane of my existence! Can't wait to try this. I'm so picky about my knitting
My first time doing GSR. Didn’t realize about the last stitch. I am doing them in the round. Thank you for an excellent video!
THANK YOU for this! Such a huge help, no more holes in my sweaters!
This was a beautifully clear demonstration of German Short Rows in the round. Thank you so much.
I've followed this video closely, stopping the video each time you've turned and I've done the same, I am so pleased.
What is the trick people write about?
This seems easy for me to do Portuguese style work! Thanks for being a hub of knitting knowledge for knitlings like me
You are very welcome!
could you do a tutorial on increases for a sweater while also working german short rows?
Beautiful!! Thank you for sharing, it seems soo easy and neat!!! 💗
Thank you! I hope you get good results with this technique!
This is what I’ve been looking for for ages! THANK YOU! Minute 5:00 to the end I have never been able to find anywhere and I have looked all over. Much appreciate the whole video
@@VeganMonkey122375 Thank you so much! I also spent a lot of time searching all over the place for something that actually worked but nothing was really satisfactory. So I decided to just figure it out myself haha!
I’ve been looking for a solution to the holes left by the last ds when knitting GSR for so long, so thank you! Does this technique work the same when you reach the other ds (made from the purl-side-to-knit-side turn) further on in the round?
Thanks so much for this video. I just completed GSS for my sweater using your old video and I saw this one. The difference I see is how you ended the GSS and continued to BOR. I think I will save this for my next sweater rather than unravel the other method.
Both methods work but I do think the new method is almost invisible.:) I hope you give it a try for your next sweater!
This is one of the few helps that addresses this issue with GSR's, so thank you! The double stitches created when turning from a knit-side-facing to purl-side-facing don't behave the same way as those created when turning from p-s-f to k-s-f when you go to knit the double stitch, or at least that's my understanding of it. Is that correct? I'd done GSR's before, but not when carrying on in the round past the BOR. The gaps were vexing. I've been knitting for many years but needed a help for this, so thank you again! Old knitters CAN learn new tricks :)
Fantastic! Excellent tip! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
thank you so much for sharing this trick!
Brilliant! Thank you! 🌻
Genius trick! Thank you!
Great video
So, if I should put it in writing:
knit to 1 stitch before the twisted GSR,
slip this stich knitwise,
slip the first leg of the GSR purlwise,
knit those 2 loops tbl,
knit the 2d leg of the GSR tbl,
keep on knitting.
Is that correct?
Yes, that's right (I you click on "show more" then scroll a bit, I have the written instructions in the video description)
Absolutely brilliant ....
Děkuji 🎉❤😊 je to perfektní 👍❤️
I am still having such a difficult time with this.
I’m just totally confused with this, need someone to sit with me otherwise I’m not going to have any hair left. 😂
I get a gapping hole on my last stitch too. I couldn’t figure it out 😂. Thank to for these tips.
Right at the 5-minute mark, is that the last DS technique that you execute before you finish your short rows? Thanks.
👍 beautiful!! 🌹
I wish there was some narrative explaning this. I was with you until about 6 minutes into the video.
Yeah me too. This is the second video I've seen with them NOT explaining what's going on.
Looks like for the very last double stitch before continuing on to the stitches that were not included in the short rows, she slipped the last stitch before the double stitch without working it, then added the spare leg from the double stitch to it and knit both together through the back loop. Then worked the main leg of the double stitch, then the rest of the round. Everywhere else the spare leg and the main leg of a double stitch were worked together through the front loop in pattern so she only applied this modification to smooth the transition back into the normal round.
Read the description under the video 🤗
Thank you!
Thank you so much for the to avoid hole
Why do you double wrap the first stitch that comes after the DS?
Thank you for this! How do you resolve the last stitch when it's a purl?
Is the trick only done on the last ds? Or, do you use the trick to resolve all GSR double stitches?
It's done on the last ds only
@@KnittingWithFrogginette Thank you!
How we determine our short rows turns
Hi My Dear Friend,
I like the way you are showing every detail so nicely kindly show me tutorials of topdown high neck sweater for five years old girl if know.
Thank you so much
God bless you
I’m trying to knit GSR in a pattern where all DS’s are resolved in one row when commencing in the round would I need to do the trick for the DS before rejoining and when I get to the other end the DS when joins up with the other half of the DSs waiting to be resolved. Anyone help?
Very cool! I'm going to use this in a project I'm working on right now!
Awesome! I hope you're happy with the results!
Ďakujem....
top down raglan sweater: do you first do the short rows before starting the increases at the raglans or ..... increase at the raglans at the same time?
I prefer to do the raglan increases and the short rows at the same time.
@@KnittingWithFrogginette Thank you so much! Going to try it!
Could you provide a tutorial on this? I'm working on a raglan and did my increases first and then the short rows. It was my second attempt because I had done the short rows first before the raglan and got confused. But i'm starting over and will use this method for the short rows. Thanks.
I was thinking the same thing. About to give up and just have the back and front the same height. As long as it goes over my head/ shoulders.😂
What trick?🧐
From 5:00. It is amazing. I have not seen it any other video. And it works.
How do you use this trick to resolve the purl side?
I am still trying to grasp. Maybe if I watch the video three or four times more. I can't walk and chew gum at the same time.
Hi Gloria, I have a "short rows overview" video here, perhaps it could give you some context: ruclips.net/video/f_yBcvZL79k/видео.html. If you already understand the general idea but have trouble with the particular steps, I recommend doing it at the same time as me, pausing and playing the video as needed.
Gsr twist my melon doesn’t help I’m left handed
I know there is an app that can mirror some videos- that has helped some of my lefty friends. I don't know what it is, though, and whether it is Android or Ios
Thank you for sharing this technique. Will have a go in the near future. Think it will take me a bit till I get it right. 👍🧶
