A little fun fact about this cover. Former lead guitarist for Shinedown Jasin Todd was , or is married to Ronnie Van Zants’s daughter. Her and her mother own a music venue in Jacksonville Beach Florida. Shinedown use to play there. They did this cover as a tribute to the Van Zants. After Jasin Todd left the band, they said they wouldn’t perform the song again. That didn’t last long. A few years later they started performing the song again.

Shinedown's original guitarist Jasin Todd is married to Melody Van Zant, the daughter of the late Ronnie Van Zant, Skynyrd's lead singer. In the early days Shinedown used to play at a venue called Freebird Live in Jacksonville Beach. Freebird Live is owned by Judy Van Zant, Ronnie's widow, and Shinedown would always sing "Simple Man" as a thank you to her and a tribute to Ronnie. Seeing them in this video and others like Sound of Madness compared to how they look now is crazy haha. I just saw them in concert in October and they performed this.. it gave me chills.
