    Wow, five years later and you just saved my life. Had to adjust for the new version at a few points, but this got me there. As opposed to Toon Boom's learn portal where they try and teach you everything else other than what you need to get a basic character walking. Thanks!

    I woke up this morning pretty convinced I was too dumb to work out toon boom, not for lack of trying. I did your tutorial, and it all fell apart and went south. I deleted everything, started over again, and low and behold, it's working and it's almost time for dinner. But I am animating with toon boom now officially. Very easy to follow too, which is absurdly rare in the realm of toon boom tutorials. Very good video, thank you thank you.

    For those who have this problem in the Premium version: "when moving the 2 arms up 1 bone, both arms disappear." Right-click the deformation folder and then click Ungroup, you should now be able to do exactly like in the video

    I have followed this tutorial a few times and keep getting stuck at the 10:45 mark when you move the 2 arms up 1 bone. When I do it (Premium Edition) both arms disappear. I have tried multiple different files with different character drawn from scratch. I simply am baffled. Also, when I create the bones for my character's body, I get 3 bones, not 4. I click exactly 5 times on my torso and still only get 3 bone layers in the timeline. Ugh.

    • @OnionSkin
      @OnionSkin  7 лет назад +2

      Layer order tends to freak out a bit in the premium version because of nodes, open up the node view and tidy things up and see how things are connected together. Remember things plugged into the composite more to the left will appear higher in the layer order

And, if you don't want Toon Boom to automatically create a deformation folder, click the Rigging Tool, the one with the Hammer and Wrench, then at the Tool Properties tab, under Rigging Tool Options, uncheck the third icon which says "Automatically create a group when creating a deformation rig."

    The problem I always come across when I use bone puppets like this is I cant edit the drawing after its boned if I want to make changes. It like alters the drawing and pushes it off. If you press k you can find it and kinda edit it but its a pain and doesnt really work. I find it easier to just use ctrl alt shift d and make multple body parts

    • @OnionSkin
      @OnionSkin  4 года назад

      This is what the drawing view is for. Shows that piece out of the way from bones and manipulations. So you can draw alternate versions without it flying off everywhere

    When I move the arms, they detach from the body. Maybe I need to properly place the deformation points?

    • @BDRAC24
      @BDRAC24 5 лет назад

      Drag your limbs/head/etc. peg layers underneath the body peg in Timeline. Then when you animate the body peg the arms and limbs will move with the body

    My pivot point for my hand isn't following the hand's new position. It makes rotating it really awkward

    • @OnionSkin
      @OnionSkin  5 лет назад

      There’s multiple pivot types in the program that can sometimes conflict with each other. For now try pasting that artwork onto a fresh layer to get a pivot that will behave itself

      Ex-Poser Toons yes you are changing the circles in transform mode. You should be in bone tool mode(hammer and wrench)

    Could you do an overview comparison of the different versions of toonboom, say, from tb studio to tb animate to tb harmony?
    I currently have tb animate and have yet to upgrade to tb harmony although I haven't planned on upgrading anytime soon due to cost. But for what I'm planing on doing, Animate seems sufficient enough. I notice that all the tutorials focus on harmony mostly. I wish there could be more attention put towards Animate especially since Animate is pretty powerful in it's own right.
    One thing I notice about a comparison is that Animate doesn't have the deformation tool, whereas, Harmony does.

      +Like Kane I've don't a bunch of comparisons I. The past. I try to use Essentials in my videos as often as possible. Which has a feature set very very similar to Animate.

    • @roamlikekane
      @roamlikekane 8 лет назад

      hi there, is essentials another version of tb? Can't say I've heard of it. Would it be too much to ask for a link to one of your past videos of what you are describing, so that I could search your catalog of other related tuts at around the same time-frame.

    @Onion Skin. Hi I was wondering if autopatch is available on toon boom essentials, or is it only available in the premium? Because my rig is bending the arm and I can see lines overlapping (or lines bending in a weird way). Would there be a way of solving this?

    • @OnionSkin
      @OnionSkin  3 года назад

      I believe it’s a premium thing I’m afraid. Using bones across a single piece arm should work a lot of the time though.
      Remember however that auto patch is just line art masking the colour art. So it may be possible to build your own auto patch from those components!
