Just a disclaimer: Coconut oil can be over absorbed and cause brittle hair. I would not leave coconut oil on hair for too long when testing oils to begin with. Just from my own experiences. I find coconut oil is better for strengthening hair and olive oil is better for moisturizing. Both coconut oil and olive oil have been scientifically proven to absorb into the hair shaft (coconut oil has the smallest molecules and olive oil the second smallest)
Thanks Britt! It's always good to try things slowly--everyone's hair is different. After watching this video, I did a complete oiling of my hair because I'd noticd it had started feeling very funny after washing and olive oil made it soft again! For me, it was about moisture since I'm getting my gray covered with permanent dye now :)
Darkhorse3211 Darkhorse3211 I heard the Argan oil has the smallest molecules and I think that's true since in the region (south of Morocco) where they produce it all women don't have wrinkles despite having sun all the year and I believe it does miracles for hair and skin like preventing stretch marks. That's my personal experience
Odd---someone responded to this saying that aragan oil is the smallest molecule of oils----but I can't find the post. And that information is incorrect. Aragan oil will penetrate the hair shaft, but coconut oil is the smallest molecular structure of all oils, with olive oil coming in second. :)
Love the video! I have a tip! I would always have to shampoo full-strength twice after applying an oil, but recently I was searching Long Hair Community and got some really good advice. After your oil has stayed in for a while, you coat your hair with conditioner and let that sit for at least 30 minutes, THEN wash it all out with your shampoo. I read that this works because the conditioner absorbs the excess oil.
HannahBears Do you apply the conditioner on your wet or dry hair? When I have oil in my hair I put shampoo on my dry hair (because of that oil - water thing) it works but it's not ideal. Maybe I will try your technique :)
I have 1b hair type. Im using coconut oil to straighten my hair more, olive oil for moisturize my hair and the last one im using shea butter for extreamly soft shiny silky hair. I do this once per 2 week, because my hair is not damage . Sometimes i do this once a month :) leave it for an hour, i usually leave it for 2-3 hour and then just rinse it out with shampo and hair mask
I've had hair down to my knees and I never used oil. It's now long enough to sit on...and I sometimes put coconut oil on the ends just because I like the smell of coconut. I think the less you fuss with your hair, the better. Just let it grow, comb and brush gently, use a good conditioner and forget it.
Another note to make: I found oil absorbed better if my hair was wet. I know many others find their hair absorbs oils better if dry. Again, something you may wish to play around with :
I recommend taking the oil and placing it in a glass bowl then place the glass bowl in a pot of hot water, almost like double boiling (just not boiling) because if you put the container in the water it heats up the plastic and the plastic can slowly seep into the oil!
Thank you, Britt. Your hair looked beautiful after that oil treatment!! I find that I have to shampoo twice, with a sulfate free shampoo, to remove the oil and prevent it from being heavy and greasy. I loved your bun tutorial too!! It was the best. Thank you so much!! Have a great Saturday!!
I don't know why but I always had dandruff in my hair. And recently I consulted a doctor and she suggested me not to use coconut oil at any cost. what you think of this? and can you do a video of tips for getting rid of dandruff? please. thankyou! loved the video tho beautiful you look! :)
I think your doctor is partially correct. If you have dandruff, I don't think you should be putting any oil on the scalp. You can still oil the length though! And for the dandruff issue, I recommend a dandruff shampoo with selenium sulfide (selsun blue is a popular one). I've had good luck with that.
I think it's pretty clever that you rinsed your hair on camera with a tshirt. The tip about a sulfate shampoo for hair-oiling days is also something I've found to be true, otherwise it seems like I don't get enough of the oil washed out.
Well I'm glad /someone/ agrees with me about the sulfates. :D I know a lot of my viewers reject sulfates and silicones out of hand, but I see them as tools that can be quite useful.
@@makeupandcoffee when I have wash the oils out if my hair, I use sulfate shampoos. Otherwise, I make my own Ayurvedic shampoo with reetha, alma, and shikakai.
I've been doing oil treatments every week and they feel great for a couple days but then the effect fades. Recently I've been following a discussion in a FB group about oils and how they don't moisturize but seal in moisture so you have to have damp hair or a moisturizing agent in it before oiling to get any effect. Just curious what your thoughts are about this. I love your videos and your hair is beautiful. Obviously what you're doing is working very well for you!
Sounds like a really interesting conversation. If you could link me to the discussion, I'd like to read more! I've done both damp oiling and dry oiling, and just found that dry oiling works better for me. But I certainly believe the opposite could be true for many people - maybe the difference could have to do with porosity? Hair science can be fascinating stuff.
It was in the "Long Hair Community meeting place" It's a closed group but here's the link. I learn a lot from the people on that board. And yes, hair science is fascinating! Your hair is looking amazing! Definitely going to try this out soon! P.s do you have any tips for dealing with frizzy hair especially after its just been washed? Thanks! Xx
Heyyy it's my giveaway winner! Can you believe that was way back when I only had 1k subcribers. Time really flies! Anyway, do you have curly or thick hair? If so, a little bit of oil used as a leave in might help. And if not, try a silicone serum! There's nothing wrong with using silicones, and they are my best defense against frizz.
Hello, thanks for inspiring i am getting vatika oil today, do you use sulfhate shampoos only on days you oil or everyday? What are the best shampoos you recommend ? Also do you recommend treatments like brazillian blow out when trying to grow hair long to eliminate frizz ? And do you dye your hair in the process of making it long or is it too damaging ? Sorry for a lot of questions:) keep up the good work :)
Hiii. I adore your videos they have made my hair grow to beautiful and I love it. I have a question, when you oil your hair do you suffer from hair fall and do you also suffer from hair fall after you wash your hair after oiling???
Hi Britt! Long time no see!!! Gosh your hair is looking gorgeous! Congrats! Coconut oil is THE best oil I have ever used on my hair! Absolutely love it! Hope to see you soon! XOXO
You very pretty and natural. Are you using a hair dryer? And another question, are you falling asleep with wet hair? And what is your bed hairstyles? Sometimes I'm doing a twisted bun, but it's too heavy and I've a scaplache
Hello! I don't use a hair dryer except on my roots if it's a very cold day, and yes, sometimes I will go to sleep with wet hair. My bedtime hairstyle is always a simple braid - I used to do buns, but I experienced a lot of hair breakage from the elastics. Try braiding if you don't mind waking up with wavy hair!
Hi there! I get a trim once every year and I barely get anything taken off. I usually ask for a "dusting," meaning the trimmed pieces are so short they just look like dust as they fall. As far as heat goes, I don't use any! And I haven't for several years.
I haven't tried anything as of yet, but I am really glad to find some hair care information for really long hair. I have the same length of hair as you but when ever I search stuff for "long hair" it's usually for hair that is shoulder length or below the shoulder blades which I find not to be as helpful for me. I will definitely be trying some of your stuff. As for brushing tools, would you recommend to rather use a wide tooth comb or a wide bristle brush (the ones that have the little beads at the ends) for brushing hair? I always get split ends and I've heard that the type of brush you use could cause them.
This has made my hair a million times more manageable! What's your input on hot vs. cold water when washing? Also, what kind of brush do you suggest? my hair is knee length but in desperate need of some tlc! Ty!💚
That's so awesome!! I try not to use water that is too hot, but girl I am not about to rinse my head with cold water haha. It may work for some, but that's not a sacrifice I'm willing to make. I do all my detangling with a wide tooth comb. I find that it gives me more control and prevents unnecessary breakage from trying to get a brush through. Takes longer, but I think it's worth it. And wow, that's incredible that your hair is knee length!
I don't know how I missed this video lol. I decided to get my hair straightened yesterday (I needed to get it cut because I've been putting it off haha) to see if my good hair habits have been working...and indeed they have! Hair journeys are so much fun! Oiling hair really works and it's helping me to retain length. Once I'm ready to revert back to curly I am going to oil my hair before washing.
This video was so helpfull! I also put coconut at my roots but my hair (i have hair til my hips) was frizzy and it irritates me a lot, then i decided that i want to try to put it at my whole hair and wooooow the result is amazing! never ever could imagine that it would make such a difference ! Thanksssss
When you air dry your hair, do you wait to comb it (with a wide toothed comb) until it is dry, or do you comb it while it is wet or damp? Just wondering because your hair is gourgeous!
Thank you for this video!!! Because of you I've finally started my long hair journey for real! :D I've wanted to do it for so long but always backed down. You inspired me to really take care of it for once. I've coloured my hair since I was 13 , I'm 21 now and I haven't had hair longer than to my shoulders , I've tried several times to start taking care of it and not use heat tools and not to colour it but I always failed. I have now been oiling my hair once to twice a week for 2 months and I can see smal changes which I'm so happy about. Thank you for your videos! Your hair is so beautiful
Hey Britt, I've done coconut oil treatments before, but it does look super oily and after I wash it out, my hair doesn't show much of a difference. I have super frizzy and staticky hair, so what oil would you recommend for hair like mine? It's also pretty long so that might be a factor. :)
very helpful but your hair look amazing I hv short hair and I want long hair but my grows slowly with parachute oil what do I use in my hair so that it can grow fast
My hair is fit and it's turning gray shampoo be good for my hair and what kind of oil should I use let me know thank you very much love you long hair and I'm 65.
I find that if you cant get the oil treatment out by just shampooing (which never worked for me, my hair stayed super greasy), putting in a mask of egg whites and some olive oil (although the olive oils really optional) gets the oil mask out for me because the protein molecules of the egg cut the oil, making it easier to wash out. I do this for about 30-1 hour and that really works, although i've also heard that castile soap is another good way to safely get oil masks out of your hair. Also, eggs are really good for your hair, so there's no risk of damaging it. ** I would recommend doing this in the kitchen because the raw egg will make the bathroom smell funny for a day or two **
Hi girl. I watched this vid last night, and today I tried this hot oil method you showed of putting the whole oil container in the warm pot of water. Um.. it didn't work so well this first time, but it worked to warm up the oil just a bit. Your vid was my inspiration to do that. Maybe I'll get better at it. It was an oil treatment nonetheless even tho it wasn't all that warm.
The only time my hair feels amazing is when I use olive oil! Its so heavy though!! But my hair looks and feels amazing after!! Curious about panteen, does your scalp get super oily after a couple days of using that shampoo? I used to use organic sulfate free shampoo but started to loose a lot of hair my hair became brittle, frizzy, and dull. I think I have sensitivity to coconut based cleansers. I use lush shampoo bars but my scalp still has buildup. The struggles!!😂😂
Yeah, my scalp has been giving me a run for my money recently too. To answer your question, yes my scalp does get pretty oily after using that shampoo, but it does that with almost all shampoos. I also had a huge shed this year, and I' m wondering if mine was because my hair didn't like how much I was stretching my washes. But I don't really know! It's so confusing trying to figure out what my scalp/hair want sometimes!
When I moved to Florida From New York I lost a lot of hair due to the change of climate, water quality, and stress. And I found the same shampoos didn't work as well in Florida as it did in new York. I still haven't found my favorite shampoo as my hair has become stubborn! It's so trhard right?! Sometimes a product works for couple months then my hair hates it! I have to try something new!!
the JR leggits shampoo bars which you can find on iHerb are great because they melt very fast and don’t leave residue, but be sure to store them outside of the shower so they don’t run out quickly. Also, try to do apple cider vinegar hair rinses, they help out w the buildup. Another thing is doing routine scalp scrubs ,they reduce hair fall and get rid of flakes and all that unwanted itchy feeling
My oil I use is totally Indian - 1. Coconut Oil 2.Castor Oil 3. Patanjali kesh kaanti (an Indian store oil ) 4. Almond Oil 5. Vitamin E Capsule even I drink lots and lots of water, cover my hair with a scarf while going out and shampoo(beer shampoo) twice a week with condioner condition... *I trim my ends every 2 to 3 months and use an henna mask twice a months... it makes my hair smooth and prevent from hairfall !
Use shea moisture brand.. no sulfate ..but works GREAT.. I have scalp psoriasis. I m trying to grow my hair . It's not easy at all.. but shea moisture saved my hair ..
Hey Kate! I trim once a year (in July), and only a little tiny bit. I tell my hairdresser to do a "dusting," which is such a small trim that the trimmed hair looks like dust when it's falling to the ground.
I use a 100% Pure brand shampoo for washing the oil treatment out of my hear and it works perfectly fine for me. So that is a great alternative for a store bought shampoo. At least it is a perfect one for me, and I would definitely recommend it instead of a sulphate shampoo.
I haven't done any oil treatments YET, but lately I've been *loving* Rosemary oil! I hear it's so good for your hair and I massage my scalp every night with it. Hopefully I'll be seeing hair growth results.
Hey, thanks for sharing! I didn't know that. I'm guessing you are one such person who finds twists to be damaging? If so, how do you put your hair up after oiling? I can add it to the description for others who have the same issue. 🙂
coffee&makeup I usually braid it and fold the braid up into a hair scarf or I just wrap the scarf around lose hair. Works well especially if I'm planning to sleep overnight with the oil in my hair.
If you have a little bit of hairspray in your hair from "24" hours ago, should you rinse it out with water before an oil treatment or does it not matter? Just want to know what you think is best 😊
very helpful video...jst try mine this morning. will see how shiny my hair will be tomorrow morning :) . I used Emita coconut hair oil I find it nice to use and it is not sticky too. If anyone has problem for choosing hair I suggest to try this one.
I use this lavender and rose hip essential oil blend that already has several carrier oils in it when you buy it. I only use it on the ends of my hair to prevent split ends and I let it sit for thirty minutes and then I take a normal shower. Works like a dream and it's so easy.
Not necessarily! If it's an oil, I will try it on my hair, because you just never know what your hair is going to like! I've tried clarified butter and even lard on my hair. :X
Your hair would be okay with the sulfate shampoo because the oil would stop the sulfate from doing damage anyway but a tip I would suggest is after you apply it to your hair try blow drying it on low setting for about 5-10 minutes. And then going about your. Business. I find that when I do this it warms the oil up enough to fully penetrate my hair shafts. I read this online.
It might be! Your roots already have the benefit of getting your natural scalp oil though, so it might be better to focus the argan oil on your length. But I think it just comes down to a) whether your hair likes argan oil and b) whether your scalp likes to be oiled. You'll have to experiment to find out. Happy oiling!
I love this oil its the most amazing and I used coconut oil and olive oil nothing else worked my end were still so dry I didn't understand I use the oil on my ends, keeped it in for a little and then just shampoo it out with vo5 and its still has shin and is so soft even with out conditioner is the most amazing nothing else worked thank you soo much for your video :)
Is almond oil is good for hair growth?coz i used almond oil its really turned my hair super moisturised and silky.but i heard that almond oil doesnot helps in hair growth
No oil can help hair growth... but if almond oil helps the health of your hair , the hair will stay on your head looking nice for longer and overall that will help the length of your hair.
i have been doing oil treatments for about a year now and i try to do them once a week. In my opinion my hair is puffy were there is lot of volume and i don't really like it for the oil treatments i have been starting to use extra virgin olive oil with my cocunut and shea butter (got it at walgreens) but my outcome is still the puffy and a bit frizzy. Any suggestions?
I use mustard oil mix with castor oil for my hair.(my hair super dry, super freezy & rough) this mix oil treatment do wonder for my hair.and make my hair long😘
I am not sure if I am the only one to have this issue, but my hair falls out ridiculously whenever I oil it, knowing that I have an extra dry hair and scalp.
I use the salon selectives instant repair leave in conditioner treatment once or twice for a week it has Brazilian keratin oil and it works for me so I think Brazilian keratin oil is my hairs fave oil it leaves it healthy shiny and soft I just love it.
u guys use vatika? which is an indian brand :3.. we don't use this brand that much :3 don't know why? some said it's smell is not that good or it cosed hairfall! :/
Merrily S. Have you tried the LOC method? Liquid (water from the shower and optionally a leave in conditioner), oil, and then cream (as in a styling product, like mousse).
Ok, well first I agree that LOC method may be your best friend as a curly girl! Also, a pre-shampoo oil treatment like the one I showed in this video will be helpful too. Post-wash, you can use aloe vera gel or a teensy bit of oil as a leave-in for curl definition. Unfortunately, if you've been heat styling your hair for a very long time, the resulting damage is going to make your hair frizzy and poofy. So my best advice is to stop heat styling if you can! There will be a transition period of frizzy, unmanageable hair, but this will let your damage grow out and healthy, less frizzy hair grow in. :)
It may not work for a lot of people because everyone is so different and plus I don’t think that will work on my hair I tried everything nothing worked my mom told me to eat Jell-O so far my hair is growing with Jell-O everyone’s different I don’t think oil is the best way to do it because your hair will get all oily and it’s really gross I completely doubt it !

I wait to brush until its dry. My hair is very weak when wet, so for me wet brushing would cause unnecessary damage.
@@makeupandcoffee offf.. if I didn't brush my hair when it's wet it will just end up frizzy!
Nazarena Salvatore how long is your hair now?
Hey Britt, I've done coconut oil treatments before, but it does look super oily and after I wash it out, my hair doesn't show much of a difference. I have super frizzy and staticky hair, so what oil would you recommend for hair like mine? It's also pretty long so that might be a factor. :)
How often do you wash your hair?
Finally got the true youtuber.
Are you rebounded or relaxing or colouring your hair or it's just a natural hair?
Would you suggest brushing of combing your hair?
What are your tips to not having frizzy hair?
Very helpful. Great tips. Your hair looks Amazing as usual! I found grapeseed oil is my hairs favorite oil. Tfs!
Hey girly! Thank you so much for stopping by. My hair loves grape seed oil as well! Great for a leave in.
coffee&makeup 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😘 love💑👲👻
very helpful but your hair look amazing I hv short hair and I want long hair but my grows slowly with parachute oil what do I use in my hair so that it can grow fast
Hi, do i understand its best to shampoo the scalp area of the hair? i never knew that. thanks again...
I am totally in love with your channel! 💛
My hair is fit and it's turning gray shampoo be good for my hair and what kind of oil should I use let me know thank you very much love you long hair and I'm 65.
I always watch your videos, I love them!!! I for the first time tried coconut oil and I loved my results! Thanks for the idea🤗
Coconut Oil
2.Castor Oil
3. Patanjali kesh kaanti (an Indian store oil )
4. Almond Oil
5. Vitamin E Capsule
even I drink lots and lots of water, cover my hair with a scarf while going out and shampoo(beer shampoo) twice a week with condioner
condition...
*I trim my ends every 2 to 3 months and use an henna mask twice a months... it makes my hair smooth and prevent from hairfall !
Use shea moisture brand.. no sulfate ..but works GREAT.. I have scalp psoriasis. I m trying to grow my hair . It's not easy at all.. but shea moisture saved my hair ..
how often do you cut your hair? and how much do you cut off?
Hopefully I'll be seeing hair growth results.
i have fine hair and i am a little bit concerned whether it would be weighed down too much when it grows longer 😐
Twisting you hair can be very damaging for certain hair types. Just wanted to mention that. Loved the video!
Of course she's only doing what works for her. I didn't see her do anything wrong in the video. Everybody should do what works for them. ;)
How often do u wash ur hair?
Britt which shampoo you are using at present
can you suggest some shampoos and conditioner which avoids frizziness
I have grape seed oil but it's mixed in with canola oil. I figured that putting canola oil in my hair is a bad idea.
Not necessarily! If it's an oil, I will try it on my hair, because you just never know what your hair is going to like! I've tried clarified butter and even lard on my hair. :X
Which shampoo do you use..?
olive oil worked so well to me
I dye my hair a lot, and it was the only one who recovered it and makes it grows
Same. Because of bleaching, I used to be an avid coconut oil user, but I switched to olive oil and my hair is much nicer than I knew it could be!
Hi I was wondering is coconut oil and essential oil?
did you apply oil on your scalp??
oh so oiling your hair is done BEFORE you shampoo? I've been wearing this oil in my hair for the last 3 days! 😩😖. So AFTER you shampoo don't oil?
your hair color is identical to mine - same type too, silky, shiny and smooth - very thin / flat hair.
Hey girl ur hair looks so beautiful in this video i also found coconut oil for me as to get these results
What shampoo and conditioner do you recommend?
Is it healthy for the hair to apply argan oil in the roots? :)
It might be! Your roots already have the benefit of getting your natural scalp oil though, so it might be better to focus the argan oil on your length. But I think it just comes down to a) whether your hair likes argan oil and b) whether your scalp likes to be oiled. You'll have to experiment to find out. Happy oiling!
coffee&makeup
Thank you! :*

That make up really suits you a lot! You look very beautiful♥
I use Sweet Almond Oil and I do not use a lot. Just a dab for my top of my head and two dabs for the rest. I put it in two sections too.
How many times does she was her hair with shampoo? I can not find a video about the washing proces.. Does somebody know?
I love this oil its the most amazing and I used coconut oil and olive oil nothing else worked my end were still so dry I didn't understand I use the oil on my ends, keeped it in for a little and then just shampoo it out with vo5 and its still has shin and is so soft even with out conditioner is the most amazing nothing else worked thank you soo much for your video :)
Have u ever dyed your hair ? X
Some oils dont penetrate the hair and just sit on top so they just make them look shiny they dont really benefit the hair.
Can I still do this even though I have hair that's way shorter than this, by that I mean not even shoulder length
Is almond oil is good for hair growth?coz i used almond oil its really turned my hair super moisturised and silky.but i heard that almond oil doesnot helps in hair growth
No oil can help hair growth... but if almond oil helps the health of your hair , the hair will stay on your head looking nice for longer and overall that will help the length of your hair.
how often do u oil in a week ?
Olive oil was my hairs favorite!
i have been doing oil treatments for about a year now and i try to do them once a week. In my opinion my hair is puffy were there is lot of volume and i don't really like it for the oil treatments i have been starting to use extra virgin olive oil with my cocunut and shea butter (got it at walgreens) but my outcome is still the puffy and a bit frizzy. Any suggestions?
I'm wondering what your hairtype is - are you a curly girl and what is your thickness?
my hair is natural wavy but not curly. and its pretty darn thick coffee&makeup
after shampooing out the oil do you still have to use conditioner? :)
I do yes.
Do u do it daily like the daily wash??
I use the salon selectives instant repair leave in conditioner treatment once or twice for a week it has Brazilian keratin oil and it works for me so I think Brazilian keratin oil is my hairs fave oil it leaves it healthy shiny and soft I just love it.
What use on dry hair after shower..???
Is there another oil that I can have? I am vegan. That has milk in the oil that you use. Thanks.
I know it’s been a long time since this video was posted but does sweet almond oil work too?
Your videos are very refreshing, thank u.
You're welcome! I'm gad you like them. :D
Does ur shower have a water filter or ever had??
Love your makeup and hair 😍
After using olive oil to hair and after shampoo can a use conditioner or no???
Mary Joy LSP yes

u guys use vatika? which is an indian brand :3.. we don't use this brand that much :3 don't know why? some said it's smell is not that good or it cosed hairfall! :/
Can I ask how you style with no heat? My hair is naturally curly/poofy/frizzy. Doesn't look good not styled.
Does oils make your hair darker ??
It may not work for a lot of people because everyone is so different and plus I don’t think that will work on my hair I tried everything nothing worked my mom told me to eat Jell-O so far my hair is growing with Jell-O everyone’s different I don’t think oil is the best way to do it because your hair will get all oily and it’s really gross I completely doubt it !
