- Getting to explore France in a DS9 taught me all I needed to know about what makes the edgy French car manufacturer tick. We drove over 300km around some of the most beautiful countryside and I fell in love with France all over again.
The DS5 is the luxury saloon in the DS lineup. As I drive through France I tell you my thoughts on the car.

As a teenager I cycled through that part of France with my mates. (back in the late 50's) and though life was much simpler then it was just as beautiful.
Cool 😎
The sacrifices you make to bring us content 😂. Awesome part of France.
I know. It’s hard sometimes 😜😂
Yes Pete, really good video and thanks for sharing. You looked absolutely exhausted at the end…
I was 😂
I've just returned to the Citroen fold after a brief disappointing period of ownership of a Merc E-Class. I did look at the DS5 last year, but this model is more spacious and up-to-date.
Sorry you had to go through all of that to bring us this great content, Pete!😀
That is a lovely part of France indeed!
You’ll enjoy discovering more of that one day.
Cheers, Tom
It was a tough day 😂
Thanks for this amazing review & views. Makes me desire to have a roadtrip through France next month when I get my DS9!
Have fun!
This brought back fond memories of our many trips to France. Normandy, Brittany, over to Dijon, St Tropez and many more. Fabulous scenery very often good driving roads with little traffic. Happy days. My first Citroen was a Deanne, which we bought when we had to go on a real economy drive, as all income after food was buying building materials to convert 400 yr old cottage. Brilliant little car which was also doubled as a builders van.😢 So pleased after five years and a slight improvement in finances, bought a GS. Worst car I have ever owned. However did not spoil our love of France.🥰
'There are no lorries.' 'We're nearly at lunch.' You're in France. Those two statements are directly connected! Nice car, btw.
LOL 😂
Beautiful video and the DS range is growing on me . Initially I thought that they were Citroens with bling, and I do love Citroens especially the big ones.
They were originally part of the Citroen range. Now totally separate 👍
Thoroughly enjoyable video, brought back memories of a skint student 4 week saunter through France on push bikes back many years ago, still probably the most memorable holiday ever!
Thanks for sharing!
Slightly different kind of video. It's very enjoyable all the same. Looks like you had a blast. Thanks for bringing us along.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
France is fab. Hats off to DS Automobiles for setting up a beautiful day of activities and locations.
It is indeed 👍
Cool area for sure thanks for the road trip Pete 👍🏻🇨🇦🥂
Thanks 👍
If Carlsberg did car launches, they'd probably copy DS! I like that DS9, very stylish and look forward to seeing more of it, Pete.
It was a trip with a difference 👍
Wonderful and thoroughly enjoyable. A great balance of car, country, wine and lifestyle ........ Thanks PP
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Vidéo exceptionnelle mon amu, Petrol Ped. So the essence of the DS brand is in part derived from the essence of France, one might say. Looking forward to your review of the DS9 soon. For now, bonne nuit .
Indeed 👍
Get one on review soonest Pete. My wife still misses our DS4 and later DS5
I’m on it already 👍
Made me thoroughly jealous. Not for the cars, you can stick those, but for a few days in the Pays de la Loire 😁
Brought back memories of my childhood in Rome. I had a French stepmother from Strasbourg (brother was Director of Sogenal bank) she also had a sister in Paris and Limoges. Oncle Michele had Citröen DS 21 and son had a 2CV. My stepmother drank Puilly Fulse. Vive la France 🇫🇷
Well, what an interesting trip that was. I know nothing about France, but have driven and owned a few french cars over the years and always found they did a great chasis and drove well.. That wine looked delicious....
Oh it was 😋
Great video Ped I could not agree more I love France 🇫🇷 as well and a few years ago I had a bright yellow and piano black roof DS3 I loved that car it made me smile every time I saw it
Cool 😎
I did a training course in the nineties near Dijon and looking out of the office window were hillsides covered in vines. One of the lads in the office said if you sit very quietly on a sunny day you can hear the grapes growing😊💖
😂😂😂
Pete, l reckon that was the best video you have ever put together. Hopefully we get to see more of the DS in future episodes because it's clearly worthy of a more detailed look. Cheers
Wow thanks 🙏🏻
Seems like a busy day indeed. That said, a shot of the dashboard would have been nice 😏 Look forward to the full review in the future.
A very nicely made video Sir Pete. I enjoyed watching this after a crazy day at work
I don't usually watch these new car drives/launch type vlogs but the location made it interesting.
Can't get excited by the car however, looks like a Peugeot 508 in drag/fancy dress!?
Cheers,
Chris
Glad you enjoyed it. Very similar platform to the 508 but with a proper sized steering wheel 😂
Smashing presentation, as always Ped, you nailed the brief. Look forward to seeing some DS content on the channel shortly.
Much appreciated!
Would be great to see the route you took as it looks so lovely
I’d be much more interested in how that camera and suspension tech copes with a typical British motorway / dual carriageway / a / b road etc. French autoroutes are so good most cars should ride well on them.
I must have crossed the English Channel well over 60/70 times....For Holidays and Work..... So I know France quite well.... It is a Beautiful Country..... But in my Youth There was a Little something called the Citroen DS..... I saw a picture on the Tinternet of a cabriolet.... It looked Simply Stunning.... A wonderful car...... :-))
That was a lovely trip, it was great having the car content with the added bonus of the vineyard and velvet manufacturing 🍷🚙
Glad you enjoyed it. A tricky one to film 😬
DS is different and interesting in a world of 'predictable'. Owned 2 top spec DS5s, both bought as 1yr olds, loved them both never let me down. Ds9 hybrid very tempting and 12-18m old ones are great value. 🤔
Great vid as always Pete. In profile, this reminds me of the Citroen C6. Gorgeous scenery around where you were.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Cool video Pedro. Cheers
We've just returned from a Loire road trip in our MX5 RF, and I totally agree with you Pete, stunning countryside with some superb driving roads. Tolls roads for getting the bulk of the drive from Europoort south and back, the rest using back roads.
Sounds great!
Great content Pete. My DS5 that I've owned for nearly 8 years is quirky yet comfortable, and it's good to see it's next generation especially when other car manufacturers are moving away from saloons and hatchbacks. Tres bien
I’ve had two DS5 they were superb. Economical and comfortable. Loved the Automatic box. Effortless driving and a nice rarity value. Not your everyday brand. Quirky for sure.
Merci 😜
Great vid.That area looks stunning.Thanks.
It really is 👌
A lovely video Pal, Merci. 👍🇬🇧
Mon plaisir 👍
Your french wasn’t bad at all ! Congrats 👏
Accent and vocabulary is OK. Grammar is shocking 😂
Even in wintertime the region is worth a visit! Nice review!
I bet 👍
Lived in Lyon for a bit, the old quarter, a vast, old, apartment, it only 'made sense' (I relaxed into it) when I borrowed a bicycle, hacking about brainlessly. Loved it, from then on.
Same for me in Paris. I was just getting into it and making friends and it was time to come home 😢
@@PetrolPed I have a regret, not moving the Co to a barn in Cahors when offered by a pal, 20y ago. Very fine neighbouring vineyard. Might still do it!
Fantastic pp i would love to do that trip 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
It was a great day 👍
France never fails to impress. Such a diverse country.
Best experience I had with a tasting was in Reims at Tattinger, just amazing 😊
Going there later in the summer 👍
@@PetrolPed I’ve no doubt you’ll enjoy that 😊
Central France - the right part of the world for summer ;-)
I like the way some of these press trips are changing to more of a life style rather than a pure review. Allows you to get a feel for DS so when you get a press car to review the emotion of the brand and memories give you a better understanding of the why and not just stats. Sure it was a great couple of days although shattering 🤜🍺
Tiring and a nightmare to storyboard and film but quite pleased how it came out 👍
Great video and superb scenery Pete, also the quality of the roads put ours to shame, as do most of Europe. That predictive front camera would be working overtime in the UK looking at all our potholes. 👍
It would probably pack up due to over work 😂😂😂
Why is it every time one drives through a French village or tiny town there is never anyone about - where IS everyone??
Plus, although a well planned day, the hotel at the end seemed to have Peugeot lion head branding everywhere!
It’s very quiet in the villages for sure. Peugeot as still part of the Stellantis family 😂
Very nice inside room 212
It was 👌
Have to say was impressed with the cars, French food well what can you say and the wine they always keep the best for themselves👍
Very true!
DS certainly entertained you.
The DS9 is very special.
It was a great surprise 👍
Evening all!! Hope everyone is doing well and has a great week ahead. The DS 9 is essentially a Peugeot 508 in a smarter suit.
Yep and with a normal steering wheel 😂
Amazing countryside nice car!
Thanks 🙏🏻
I enjoyed watching the Video. Your French Is not bad 😊
Thank you! 😃
Pete, a wonderful film. Just makes we want to jump in the 911 and take off. Can you tell us where the lunch stop was and the hotel where you stayed. You certainly enjoyed that one. I guess you will catch up your sleep after your meal. Thank you. David
Here is the link to the lunch stop 👍

@@PetrolPed thank you Pete. I intend to incorporate this into a trip. Thank you for taking the time. Kind regards David
Great video as always, what watch are you wearing today?
It is a Turismo ‘Pilote’ 👍
turismo-watches.com
One comment and one question from me: I found it very strange that you showed the car exterior after 8 minutes in the video.
I hope you dont find my question very naive but what do you do if your watch strap is cut? Can you find an identical replacement or you have to buy a...new watch? I always had leather/fabric straps as I find the bracelet ugly but it's annoying when the strap gets cut after a few years, especially if it's a nice one llike yours.
Err…but a new strap 🤷♂️
Great review. As with many large French cars the ride is incredibly smooth. But to buy one as good as they are they hold their money like a sieve.
So the same as all big cars😉
Hi all 👋
Evening Ben! How’s things?
Good thanks @francoisg3500 . You well?
@@benhigginson9763 I’m doing well thanks. 👍🏻
Hello 👋
Just curious what does this model compete with in the UK and if everyone is so impressed would you personally or any of the Influencers on the trip sign up on a Citroen VIP deal and run one for £275 per month ?? ❤
Bonjour PP. The camera would have its work cut out on the roads in the UK lol. 🤣👍🇬🇧
It sure would 😂
Amazing video but if I'm honest I was more interested in where you were in France as like you I absolutely love France!! 😁 Anyway well done for how long you kept going considering what time you got up hehe?? 👌🏻👍🏻😁
It sure was a long day 😬
@@PetrolPed Yeah but worth it right especially with being in France & with them roads!! 👌🏻👍🏻😎
i use a 25year classic bmw e39 oil burner here in france not unlike were are 6.3 litres /100 klm a little more sporty than a DS just a quiet
Quick question what watch are you wearing I love that???
It is a Turismo ‘Pilote’ 👍 A watch company run by a couple of friend of mine...
turismo-watches.com
Also my favourite country and also one of my wines of choice if it’s a special meal out. Oh the car? Do they do a 2+2 convertible 😉
😂😂😂
It is interesting to me they are positioning themselves as a lifestyle brand with this launch...but surely anyone doing those events will be driving something like a boxster, 650i cab, etc.
Every day, all day..,🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺😁👍🇬🇧
You got that right!
Whats the luggage capacity like and how much are they?
Full review coming soon 😜
Boot was huge. The Espirit de Voyage starts at £71k 👍
@@PetrolPed My guess was that you hit the wine at lunchtime, thats why you had to ride
in the back and sleep it off😂
What watch is that Pete?
It a Turismo ‘Pilote’. A watch company owned by a couple of friends of mine. Stylish but not sill money 👍
turismo-watches.com/products/tertre-rouge-historic
What was the restaurant you went to lunch at? Looks lovely.
It was superb 👍
www.troisgros.com/page_la-colline-du-colombier_le-restaurant_11
What's going on with the headlights at 9:12? looks like rotating disco balls
Oh they are cool. There are 3 elements in each light unit and they spin round at start up and shit down 👍
@@PetrolPedGosh….is there a built in headlamp washer jet then??😬😬😱😀😀😀
That’s my sort of car . I have a 1977 Citroen . I don’t want to feel every bump in the road or go flat out round a corner thanks .
It’s so smooth 👌
I'd have a Peugeot 508 instead but the French are making some good value, well specced cars at the moment.
They are 👍
Hi Ped
Hi 👋
Is the DS9 destined to go the same way as most big Citroën Saloons, like the C6 ? Decent cars but couldn’t compete with the likes of BMW/Audi, so didn’t sell and depreciated faster than Bernard Hinault going down a steep one.
LOL…love this 😂
Not sure but if you say Citroen in front of the DS press officer you’ll not be invited again 😂
El vino did flow
Oh yes 🙌
So where was the in-depth exterior and interior review...?
As I said the review was a back drop to the day really. Struggled for time during the day to do interior and exterior. I’ll be getting a press car to do a full review on as soon as I can 👍
DS looked a bit small in the back and will be expensive. Being French it will ride and drive well but will go wrong after its warranty ends. Personally Belgium is prettier.
Whilst you are a nice enough chap, this some of us hv been doing and experiencing this stuff off our out own bat for 20-30 years...cracks me up ie not hard to be handed tunnel flex tickets, gites, hotels, meals etc on a plate really. I guess its as much the easy route for the manfr PR/marketing depts as it is to make the vid.
Certainly not ‘handed on a plate’. Years of hard work to build an audience and then relationships with brands like DS to enable me to share these experiences. It’s certainly not easy to make films like this and there are many people that haven’t experienced trips like this 🤷♂️
I am now curious to know which country this was filmed in 😉
The following may give a clue
ruclips.net/video/bOE6v8sPHac/видео.html
Banter aside....thanks for vid
afternoon all....
Hi 👋
Lovely car, but the pricing in the UK is utterly ridiculous.
Might be part of the reason why I have never seen a single one in the metal.
❤❤❤🏁🏁🏁🇦🇺
Frogs legs for dinner lol
I love frogs legs 👍
Lé Ped
👍
Did they ban you from using the word "Citroen"??? 😂😂😂
Absolutely. I actually let the C word slip in my first intro to camera…oops 😂
Bonjour lol
First
Salut 👋
Odd we didn’t get to see the car more , very odd review
Our flight was late arriving and that meant we were on the back foot all day with a very tight schedule and a very long loop to drive. This was never meant to be a ‘review’ as such. It did what I could with the day I had 👍
I have a Friend who owned a DS5 and the design ans especially the interior (wow) makes other marques MacDonalds burgers styling just boring and with the advent of HUGE TV screen ...yawn
France would be great if it wasn't full of french 😂
😂😂😂
