As great as Stevie Ray was, too many people forget to give a shout out to his boys Chris Layton on drums and Tommy Shannon on bass, one of the greatest rhythm sections EVER.
Yep, especially Tommy. Reese Wynans was also killer on the keyboards.
Tommy developed the Blues/Rock bass sound and isn't often recognized for it. As you probably know -- but not many others -- he honed his craft during his tenure with Johnny Winter. Amazing, underrated bassist.

And later Reece. Stevie Ray Vaughan was free to be himself, because he had absolute faith that the boys would be right there with him no matter where he went. Few consider this a true band, but I do and right next to Rush, the finest musicians ever assembled in a cohesive unit.

Hes the greatest of all time. There are many great guitarists, very few legendary guitarists, and then there is the likes of SRV. The man oozed and dripped (literally) his soul when he played. He wasnt a show man doing things for the looks (although he definitely dabbed into doing that on occasion :D), he was just on another level with being able to connect himself with every note he played. He transcends guitar playing.
Without Jimi Hendrix, there is no SRV..... just sayin.... AND, Many other great players Made Jimi............

When Stevie was finished playing his guitar it needed a cigarette 🚬.
His guitar playing was so exceptional, his vocal abilities often get overlooked. Check out his performance of Ain't Gone N'Give Up on Love, but make sure it's the 9/21/85 Capitol Theatre performance. The man poured his heart and soul out onto the stage in a steaming melting puddle.

This guy is the GOAT, he could play it all, hard rock to the blues. The man, the myth, the legend... A cliche that in Stevie's case happens 100% true. There's alot of great guitarists out there but only one Stevie Ray Vaughan. He died at only 35, God only knows what he could've accomplished if he didn't leave us so young. A great blues album he did called "The Sky is Crying" where the song the albums named after is a pure blues vibe and he just shreds it. You may enjoy SRV even more when you see what a range he has in what and how he plays. The cool thing with Stevie is when he plays Voodoo Child he never plays it the same way. There's a video out there of him doing this song in Japan I think it was and he plays it differently, but it's just as awesome.
Great reaction to SRV!!! Thank you! This show was recorded at Austin City Limits, the longest running music show in the history of television. Being from Austin I was fortunate to see Stevie several times back in the day. I worked in the concert business for quite awhile, and met Stevie backstage at the Prince's concert on the Purple Rain Tour. Stevie was very gracious and appreciative of any recognition given to him!!

Stevie Ray Vaughan flunked music class in high school and began to self teach himself.He was inspired by the great blues legends.as the years went by,he became good friends with Buddy Guy,Johnny Copland,BB king,Albert King,Albert Collins whom these legends admired Stevie Ray Vaughan.His untimely death brought sorrow to the blues.He was admired and respected by these legends.

I was fortunate enough to see SRV/Double Trouble 3 times live in the 80s, words can't express the level of his brilliance.
Stevie was other top guitar player’s favorite guitar player.
LIFE WITHOUT YOU...Your heart will melt...The white guitar he uses is the last one made by the person the song is about...He shows a lot of passion in it..
When you see a man adjusting the volume, and tone during a solo to get the perfect sound, you know he is the master of the guitar.
Nobody else could play like him those strings were so thick and the action on his guitars were so high other guitarists wouldn’t make it through one song on his guitar.
I think it was Buddy Guy who said at Steve's funeral, "a star that burns twice as bright, burns half as long". Only 7 yrs, can't begin to imagine the music we are missing.
I was lucky enough to see SRV in concert numerous times. It never, ever, got old watching him.

I got to see him perform in Dallas and Austin back in the late 80’s and I was in shock and I cried which I never do. Unbelievable !!!. His guitar was not plugged into his amplifier it was plugged into his soul !!!
There aren't too many people who can cover Hendrix and really do him justice. I gotta say, Stevie's version is my favorite version of this song.

He would cone out and throw it down start to finish just like this when he was done their was sweat dripping from his guitar the man that was a hell of a shell every time
I saw him in 1981 right before he blew up. He was incredible. Playing behind his back. Switched from acoustic to electric guitar mid song and never missed a beat. His band kicked ass too. Very underrated. Especially the drummer. I would check out Texas Flood next.
Jimi Hendrix wrote and played VooDoo Child and many other other songs that inspired Stevie Ray. It really becomes a toss-up for me to pick the best so I just love 'em both. Maybe you could check out Hendrix to see what you think. 💖🎸🎶

He had exceptionally strong fingers. He played 11 gauge strings which are like cables to you and me. Others that tried to play his guitars made their fingers bleed. More than that, he somehow channeled music though his soul out thru the guitar. His work on the whammy bar and waa waa pedal give me the flutters! Props also to his band with one of the tightest rhythm sections around. His older brother Jimmie, who played for the the Fabulous Thunderbirds, once said, "Stevie plays guitar like he's breaking out of prison"!

Truthfully, with some of the things you will see SRV do, this clip is almost like a warmup. You will probably get several El Mocambo show suggestions. Can’t go wrong with that. My suggestion- two things. Watch the sound check video(just walks in and sets the stage on fire), and find your favorite quiet space and listen to Riviera Paradise.
Stevie is doing a cover of Jimi Hendrix who first performed “Voodo Child” during the psychedelic rock period of the late 60’s.
Most guitar players use 8-10 gauge string thickness. Stevie played on 13 gauge strings! Very hard to do but lets him bend the strings and get amazing new sounds! He’s one of the best to ever come along! Amazing!

Started listening to him when he broke out in the early 80s. Those were 11 gauge guitar strings, the toughest kind of strings to play, but he made it look easy.
They have people alive today that where friend's. They say he played 13s.up to 17 at times ive done a lot of research on Stevie and it's true.
Stevie Ray not with us is as heartbreaking as Neil Pearl passing away earlier this year ....Please consider Stevie Ray Vaughan Albert Collins Jam session for review ......For me I still can’t find a finer blues session of two fantastically talented blues guitarists ...Simply sublime....

antartic orb maybe but it didn’t stop him from playing as good as he did. It took him almost dying to get clean and afterwards he didn’t know if he could play after he got sober and straight or if anyone would want to hear him he was wrong on both counts he just played great both ways .

I liked and subscribed even before you started the video. Love your approach and that you spent a few moments to learn a little bit about who SRV was. He is arguably THE greatest guitarist to ever play. You are going to want to watch much more from him. And, thankfully, he did a lot of live stuff that was recorded so we always can get our Stevie fix! 😜 By the way, he can EASILY play that same song behind his back. Many vids out there of him doing this. Insane!
His older brother Jimmy who is no slouch with a guitar he plays lead for The Fabulous Thunderbirds says it when they were kids Stevie would practice until he Shred the calluses off of his fingers and pick them up and crazy glue them back on and just keep right on practicing that's how you get that good

I've been hearing you say in those Skynyrd reactions how much you love blistering guitar solos. Well my friend, look no further, because it gets no better on a guitar. Texas Flood, specifically the live version from the El Mocambo in Canada (it's on here) circa 1983 will blow your mind. His version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing" from that same show at the El Mocambo in Toronto, Canada is pretty heavy duty also.
Now we talking 😊. STV is a Guitar Legend.
Muddy Waters and BB King got together and said "We need to somehow pass on the Blues torch to future generations so it doesn't fade away".

Gives very emotional speeches to the crowd half way through the song trying to get through to them to leave the drugs and things alone and focus on loving yourself and your family. I named my youngest daughter after him. Steve rae Lynn he was the best.
Lyrics go: "If I don't see you no more in this world, then meet you in the next one and don't be late." Rather prophetic. This song was written by Jimi Hendrix (who sadly passed at age 27). This is the shortened version of the song known as "Voodoo Child Slight Return." The entire studio version of the song called Voodoo Chile, with lyrics, is on Jimi's album Electric Ladyland and it is FIRE!! Unfortunately you can't find it on You Tube. imo, it's worth purchasing this album and Axis Bold As Love album (by Jimi Hendrix). Stevie Ray Vaughan definitely did justice to Jimi's work. And, I love guitar solos too!

I didn't listen to SRV when I was younger but then I met my husband who use to work for SRV's manager. After we married we bought some SRV's music and some of his music really grew on me. Stevey was the greatest guitarist of all time it was a massive lose when he went under he was leaving a show on a foggy night and his helicopter pilot flew into the side of a mountain I had seen him 3 times at that point and had tickets to see the tour they were on that night
