Thanks for the video. My sprayer is a 'cheapo-depot' version but, the information you provided gave me the confidence to open mine up. It took about 3 minutes to make my repair and all is good in sprayer land. I'm back out murdering weeds.
Awesome! Glad I could help.
I didn't know you could fix those, thanks!
Big help. That Chapin is the same sprayer I have. Did it as you instructed and luckily all I had to do was clean and relube. Wouldn't hold pressure before but working like new again now. Thanks!
Cool. Glad I could help.
Helpful and fulfilled my current needs. Thanks
You're welcome!
Thanks!
Thank you so much! I appreciate your gift.
Very interesting and educational thanks for sharing it!!! Have a blessed day 🙏 ❤️ 🇺🇸!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Thumbs up 👍 it’s all about maintaining what we use.
What i do with vinegar is remove the pump and put the pump into a bucket of water and pump the water through and then i made a styrofoam plug for the tank so they stay seperate until use
Good information. I would like to share my experience when my near new sprayer failed to pressurise the bottle because the one way rubber valve at the base had perished because of the home made eco friendly weed killer I was using. This was vinegar, salt and washing up liquid which works well as a weed killer. The rubber just distorted and went misshapen failing to make a tight seal. I replaced the seal and all ok now. Thanks.
Thank you.
Yes, vinegar is harsh on the rubber seals.
Good to see how to take the plunger apart and repair. I have cheaper sprayers, but have been doing as you suggest and empty them after use. Then I put plain water in them and pump it up and spray enough to clean out the wand. then empty the water out. My plungers say to oil at the top, so the oil should run down and keep the seal lubed. My biggest problem has been with the wand valve sticking and not stopping the spray. So I take the cap off it after every use, and oil it. With use the oil gets washed out, but it stays long enough to spray a tankful.
Cool
I could still use a video on the wand maintenance
I have needlessly tossed a few Chapins that were in the same condition as yours. I have a new one that has been used 5-6 times that no longer held pressure and was leaking up the center shaft. I had no clue it came apart so easily and found a little white grease around the check valve solved the problem. Not sure why it needed maintenance with so little use but at least now I can deal with it. Many thnaks!!
You're welcome. Glad you got it working again.
Nice video. One other suggestion is be careful using the screwdriver to remove the check valve. Even a new check valve won’t seal if the plastic valve seat is scratched with your tool.
Solid video my brother,I have one that is kicking my butt, but I will not give up. Thank you
Thank you
I have a Chapin black sprayer. I fill it with diesel to spray in the bed of my asphalt dump truck. It works better than any others I've used but I am still continuously working on it The diesel is hard on sprayers.
Chapin's are great. They are surely tough.
Good video been doing this for years. What I have learned is do not use petroleum based products as it will deteriate the seals and anything plastic or rubber. Better than white lithium is pumber silicone grease it has less petroleum additives and you parts last longer and it resist water better, check out the plumbing section at your local hardware store.
Thanks
$3 ... smoll hand held pump. 2liters here popular in Poland...
My pump sprayer is brand new out the box,and it started to not hold pressure the second batch of weed killer
That’s my exact sprayer. Thanks for the video.
You're welcome
How old are these sprayers? I bought a Roundup 2 gallon sprayer in 2003 and I still use it every summer. I never leave it pressurized, I was told not to do that by my grandpa back in the 90s. Never knew why until now.. 😁
Mine are 4 to 5 years old.
Thanks! Fixed it with your advice!
Glad it helped!
Just what I needed! In Australia by the way Solo brand is nothing less than AUD84-101 for home garden ones max 5L and above that nearly $200 (USD $155 or so). Chapin is slightly cheaper but still around USD $95
That’s wonderful , but don’t see how if applies
Question: How did you clean the rust out/off of the plunger? Rust is very hard to clean, did you use any chemicals like a muriatic acid solution?
It didn't really stick to the plastic. I just used dawn dish soap and the bottle brush.
This was a much needed video, thanks for getting this together........wow............I have trouble with the wand......mine leaks poison onto my hands and drips......and the other on has a slide button that is locked up........can I buy just the wand.........I wonder???
You’re welcome. If your wand is leaking, it may need a new seal inside. They easily screw apart so you can change the O rings.
its working again...thanks so much for this. Cheers!
Awesome!
@@CountryLivingExperience it is awesome, cheers
Looks like mine doesn't have a check valve. It's a 3 gallon pro series. Should it have a check valve? Doesn't look like one could be replaced.
Depends on the model of sprayer but the ones I have purchased always had a check valve.
What do you use to clean the lime etc that won't pit the plastic?
I just usually scrub with dawn dish soap and elbow grease.
How about a video on cleaning the sprayer ? I can’t keep one the works for long before I just end up tossing it.
I just drain the hoses and empty the sprayer after a few uses. They keep for years and years.
I've a kingfisher 5 litre pressure sprayer for water but it's not working properly. When I go to build pressure it's leaking at top from the green cap, handle that screws on to plunger. I've put on new seals and o rings but makes no difference.
Thanks, gonna give it a try..
You’re welcome
I have a 5 litre sprayer about to throw away for that same reason. I did not know the pump parts can be replaced. My question is if all replacements are equal to different manufacturesr? Mine is Greenlawn. Can I find them at Amazon, any advise?
The parts are manufacturer specific. Not sure where you can buy those.
I don't pump sprayers anymore. I have six of them for different chemicals. I added an automotive wheel valve stem to each tank and let my air compressor do all the work.
That'll work.
I greased it as you suggested but nothing?? Could the check valve be teh culprit?? Thanx
The check valve could be bad. You may need a new one-ring for that.
I made the mistake of leaving salt and vinegar mixture in one and it attacked the check valve at the end of the pump. It looks different like a flat rubber flapper and the mixture deformed the flap so it doesn't hold pressure! Is it similar to your pro?
I am not sure unless I can see a picture of it.
Thanks for this video.
You're welcome
Great video and great information
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video!
Thanks!
Gracias
De Nada
Thank you for the tutorial
You’re welcome
How about when the liquid come out to the top of the pump? I replace the top O'ring, it's better but some liquid still come out. What is the next step?
If you replaced that ring it should have solved the issue
How can I clear out a clogged hose or wand? Seems its clogged from pesticide solution...
Take apart the want and blow it out with an air compressor.
Another thing that helps. Don't store it in a hot shield or a shield that get extremely cold > Fine a place in the house
Storage is important
The one I have burst can it fix
No, sorry. That is not fixable.
This looks just like my LESCO sprayer….are they the same company and would that gasket set fit my LESCO 2 gallon sprayer?
I am not sure. I have never heard of or seen a Lesco sprayer.
Fixed it 😊
Are any of your T-shirts available with a pocket?
No, sorry. Just a plain t-shirt.
Mine holds pressure but nothing sprays out of the nozzle.
Sounds like the nozzle or wand is clogged. Push a paperclip through the end and clean it out.
Is there any way to fix a cracked plastic tank itself? I have two of em 😢
There is a method of plastic welding but I have never done it before.
What if the plastic bottle itself is leaking for some suspected tiny holes, then how to fix it?
That cannot be fixed
Mine wasn't working but after 5 minutes of cleaning after watching the video presto!
Awesome!
Mine has a pinhole leak in the bottle how can I repair this?
They sell plastic welding kits.
Why when I pump my sprayer the fluid spill up out the top
The seal in the plunger is bad.
A good LUBE JOB is always important when doing some serious pumping.
Mine got pressure it just don’t spray I’m not sure if it’s clog it’s so annoying this is like my 6 one I got
There has to be a clog somewhere in the system.
My sprayer came without a scary black spider that scares the crap out of you when you’re making an educational garden sprayer video. 😏 I’ve looked and looked and looked!! I’ve taken everything apart on the entire sprayer and STILL NO SPIDER!!! I think I got a tricked! No dang spider! Pfffft….
winshild washer better, no?
Sprayer leaking from side of tank,,,spraying out the side of tank..thanks
