    Very relatable video. I have lived in Jersey City for nearly 60 years so the evolution of Route 440 in this area is something I've experienced firsthand. I enjoy all of your content!

    Another great ride from Mileage Mike!
    My nickname for the West Shore Expressway is the Garbage Dump Expressway because there used to be the Fresh Kills landfill which has been closed and transformed into a park with the garbage mound hills. Those mounds have been covered with plastic and several feet of "clean" dirt and native grasses and trees have been planted.

      Ah yes I remember seeing those ships with huge mounds of trash headed to Staten Island in movies back in the day.

      I’ll soon call it part of Future I-287/New York Metropolitan Beltway once I find a way to re-Re-REPropose the Long Island Sound Tunnel connecting to other side of I-287/Cross Westchester Expy. I think you know where this is going. Hint: Seaford-Oyster Bay Expy. & Jones Beach.

      route 440 never existed to link up the OBC with 287 a maze of roads had to be taken and many neighborhoods destroyed just to make 440 happen called the east west freeway back then

    This one might be unique in that not many highways (State, US or Interstate) leave a state, pass through another one, and re-enter the original state; as a state highway, it technically changes names (from NJ 440 to NY 440 to NJ 440 again).

      There is one other in NY that does that. PA 426 becomes NY 426 for 13 miles, then goes back to PA 426.

Also, the S89LTD. Bus goes from Eltingville-Richmond Ave./Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, to Bayonne-34th St Light Rail Station, NJ.

    How far out in advance do you plan your trips as to what cities and roads you take? (I've really enjoyed your videos since subscribing to your channel.)

    • @MileageMikeTravels
      @MileageMikeTravels  2 года назад +3

      I usually plan to go to certain regions and in advance have intentions to film the major cities and well known highways. However once I get there and see some things in person I may end up filming some things that I wasn't aware of or knew the significance of from studying the maps beforehand. I've always studied maps and geography for fun so I have a general knowledge of most areas already.
