some kid that's a bs statement though. yes, there are creators and there are workers and revisionists. If we only needed creaters then we would still be flying what the wright brothers invented. No, we need people to expand on our creative people's creations.

@@GRegulator1000 That's BS . At least we'd actually have somewhere worth flying to with the Wright Brothers. Lack of originality is what has killed Rock music. Everyone autotunes Vocals and programming drums. It's all synthetic garbage that your type downloads on crappy I Pods .They need to start making people pay . The real Artists can't make a living

Funny how the young ridicule the older, the wiser, the originators, the emancipators. Lydia has a way with words then and now. Only so many of the young appreciate her. The older ones, like me, can see for miles just how much of a pioneer she is. The No Wave period of music, art, performance, literature in the late 70's is obviously still influential in the 21st century. Step aside, kids.

Lesson from Lydia Lunch. When you perform a no wave song on stage. Never feel panic. Cause a panic threat from your own music. A diy weapon that you anymore make from your own creativity.

    • @jaminjones8784

It’s funny to me how the old ridicule the young. You make it sound like older people all appreciate Lydia and appreciate her contribution to music, which is 100%not the case. Age has nothing to do with appreciating art. The younger people in my life are way more open minded to art and music from outside the mainstream than the older people in my life. That’s just my experience, it doesn’t mean younger people “get it” more than their elders.

Her often stated view that PISS FACTORY is the only good song Patti Smith ever did is ridiculous . Patti's first 4 albums are outstanding , and most people know that . If Lydia doesnt like Patti as a person , thats a different issue . The only way Lydia gets away with saying stuff like this is because ... she is ... LYDIA LUNCH ! A legend too .

Lydia, once again, cut right through all the bullshit hype that's posthumously evolved around the no wave "movement". She's right, it was not a movement. It was one of the last refuges of those who eschewed all movements. To this day, I still do. Thank God (?) there are a few that are similarly minded.

No wave was a tiny scene that emerged within a swarm of British and American new wave that flooded the clubs in NYC. The skronk-noise guitar thing got tired fast and after a year everyone was doing it. IMHO the west coast bands like Screamers, Tuxedomoon, Units, Residents, etc were much wilder than anything NY could cook up. It was a fantastic time due to the crazy cross pollination going on and the fact that clubs were actively promoting experimental music. No wave was elitist, the door policy at Mudd was way more racist than Studio 54. Everyone will scream "Basquiat" but he was the only black dude I ever saw there. It was also homophobic (toward gay men not women) and antisemitic, I would have to go rescue my Jewish-looking or gay-looking friends at the door. So it was really quite conservative and uncool. Take that Ms. Lunch you crappy faux-beat 'poet'.
