- The rats have discovered that there's food out at night for the opossums. I had to get a trap for the unwanted rats. Tonight I caught my first rat and it was not happy, especially when the opossum showed up.

@@malcontender6319yeah, they are opportunists that won't pass up a chance for an easy meal. At 1:25, once it realized the rat couldn't go anywhere, it attempted to eat it, but realized the cage was in the way and eventually gave up.

Opossum are the best animal to have living underneath your house. They don't cary diseases mice and rats wont live in the same house
The rat is in a trap and can't escape the possum even though it put its nose next to the cage and its paws on it. It couldn't get away from the possum.

I often think that this is just, some normal reaction of them trying to scare the predator away, but it’s a lot sadder if it’s them screaming in terror.

Screw that rats are vermin that do more damage and harm to neighborhoods and houses than good. Plus they are disgusting and filthy. Opossums are better for the environment and they are rabies-free!

They are not even in the rodent family. Rodents have two incisors on top and lower jaw that continuously grow throughout their lifetine. This is why they have to gnaw on hard objects to shave down those teeth. Just like rabbits and squirrels, which are also rodents.
Opossums are marsupials. They are in the same family as kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, etc. They are the only North American Marsupial. They only carry their young for 13 days before giving birth to about 25 babies the size od a bean. The offspring must make its way into the mithers pouch following her saliva trail she made for them. She has 13 nipples to support offspring that will continue to developed in the pouch. Not all of them make it to the pouch and its rare that she has a full pouch. They eat rodents, fruts and vegetables.
The best defense against a rodent population in your neighborhood are opossums filling that niche. The rats will move on out. They are super cool animals. I have rehabbed hundreds of orphaned Joey's and released them back into the wild. But I won't change your mind.

@@OpinionatedChicken59I did not waste my time. There are plenty of non-ignorant people out there that are willing to learn more about creatures they don't understand. I have done numerous presentations to educate communities about our misunderstood marsupials.

At least you got the species name right. They are opossums not possums. These are different animals. They don't even live on the same continents. Did you know possums don't play possum? Only opossums do. Someone really dropped the ball coming up with that phrase.
