This video is a year old today. I'm installing one of these in a wing and need the help. Thanks for all the work done to provide this information. A good video can take many hours of hard work.
I'm not having success setting up my s6r on my wing. do you have your left elevon connected to channel 1 and right elevon connected to channel 2? If so how do you have your inputs and mixer page setup?
A really clear explanation of how to do it. When just watching you can adjust the playback speed to 1.5 but normal speed is good if you are actually doing the steps with the video. Really excellent production. Well done
BRILLIANT. Awesome. Inspired. I've had s6r sitting in a drawer waiting for someone to just show it as simply, efficiently and informative as this. I've set up my first plane in over 20years, a trainer of course and as soon as I have free time I can't wait to try it. :)
Great video and help! I love your videos 💯 Please help me find the answer to a question that is haunting me: In conventional mode (with "hover" and "knife edge" functions. NOT QUICK mode), what exactly is CH12 supposed do? Is it for entering self-check OR does it trigger recovery/auto level? Or BOTH? I am confused. In my working conventional mode setup, CH12 activates auto level momentarily. I enter self-check via the lua-script. 2nd question: What is the F/S button? Is it the bind button on the receiver? Does the receiver really go into self-check when you push the bind button? 🤨 😀
Have you thoroughly test flown an aircraft using this setup? I can see a few issues incl. what the switch positions actually do on channel 10 and what the orange light means (in flight means applying corrections). This thing is a tricky little beast.
Great video. For some reason my rx loses signal and the RSSI level goes down to below 15 when I enter the calibration and configuration modes preventing me from performing calibration and configuration. All other times the RX works find and the RSSI is over 100. I have three of these receivers and they all do the same thing. I have tried moving the tx away from the RX and have even moved to different locations but to no avail Any idea what could be causing the loss of signal?
Not understanding why I need elevator 2 on channel 6? Only using one elevator and this is an S6R so only 6 physical channels. channel 1 and 5 for 2 ailerons and was gonna use channel 6 for landing gear. The instructions say to follow exactly but I don't understand what the purpose of the 2nd elevator is?
Is there a way to adjust the auto level gains with a pot similar to using channel 9 to adjust the stabilizer gain? The stabilizer gain is different than the auto level gain.
Hi could I please request that you do a video setting up the S6R for a delta wing and how I have to setup my radio. I am running into a problem where I setup the receiver for delta and on my QX7 I have tried using delta and normal plane each time when I have channel 1 and 2 setup in mixer channel 2 controls channel 1 even though I have a servo plugged into channel 2.
Hi. Great video that I hope to use when my S8R receiver can start working. I have problems to start. My radio Taranis and Taranis Plus are updated to the latest version. After a lot of trying, I manage to link them (creating a new model); I enter Calibrate, and it allows me, but at the moment of executing the LUA, it presents me with a syntax error ..... But what is more strange is, that when connecting the servos in the normal channels, they do not work. Thanks for your helps
Thanks for the invaluable help and I have learnt a lot more about my Taranis as well which I have had for 4 years. It is certainly the best education resource available on this topic. Now to the inevitable question: Has anyone set up a flying wing with this receiver. I am fitting it to a well used TekSumo. I have yet to test fly with the S6R fitted but I have a few slight issues.
Very Nice and crystal clear tutorial. Congrats!! I believe that some issue that i have experienced with switches/knob not functional is because i bound ma S8R in D16 but 1-8ch. The "bingo" comes while watching this tuto. I'll try later solve this binding to 1-16ch. Thank you so much :^)))
I put Chan 12 on momentary switch SH. It functions as Auto Mode but also still enables Self-Check if I toggle it 3 times. Shouldn’t happen with a single toggle switch, but it does. Any idea how I can get around this?
I still have a problem with the configuration of the S8R ... but everything is revolved around this question .. so the "Self Check" function works ONLY if the CH3 (or the one assigned to the engine) is at -100? Is this normal? I realized that only by programming and activating a special function that sets the CH3 to -100 the Self Check works ... I'm going crazy xD .... The problem is that if I use the Thr stick in the middle (0) when I activate the special function that in my case is equivalent to disarm the motor, so the motor being at -100 turns on. I configured the engine to +100 forward, 0 stop and -100 backwards
When I try and press Enter on the Calibration (lua) page, nothing happens. I have tried reformatting my SD card with the latest OpenTX firmware several times.
I am confused and need some help, I have created a model and have bound the RX to this model. I power the RX via the throttle channel as it uses the BEC include in the ESC ie. port 3 on the S6R, I notice when you calibrate the S6R you have the S.Port connected so to what is that lead connected toat the other end? At present the S6R works as a normal receiver, the ailerons, elevator and thorttle work. I read your instructions and view the relevant parts of your video, and I have also viewed many videos and other posts on this subject.
Much thanks! Truly helpful! But should the gear and flaps on ch5 and ch6 move when initiating the self-check? They are set as aux1 and aux2, NOT as ail2 and elv2.
I thought it odd that when entering the self-check, ALL the servos would move, including ch5 gear which should not be given attention as it is not selected as a control surface. Of course, I have the plane resting on the gear so it all messes up!
Disconnect the 5/6 servos during self check. Unfortunately I’m not sure where FrSky gets its feedback from. I agree that 5/6 when set to auxiliary should not be part of self check but they have so now we have to deal with it.
Yes, will try the disconnect, will also try moving them to ch7 and ch8 just to see if they move. That would tell us the self-check is twitching any and all attached servos no matter what.
Moved gear and flaps to ch7 and ch8, and they did NOT do the servo dance when initiating self-check mode. So it must be that whatever is attached to ch5 and ch6, they will move regardless of status.
i have this s6r and s8r and it works realy well with your help ,could i ask how do i get telem working i have rssi and thats it can i add to it to get speed hight voltage ect
Thanks for this great video but I still need a little help .. I followed everything step by step and almost everything works fine, all except the switch of channel 12 to enter "self check". I noticed that when I turn on the receiver I do not turn on the blue light and yet I'm sure I configured it in "Quick Mode", what can it depend on? I created in the Mixer at CH12 a value that has as input the switch to 3 positions "SB" (I use a Taranis QX7s) in the following way: CH12, Source SB, weight 100, Offset 0, Switch --- not assigned, I was wrong something? I can do the Self Check only by pressing F / S on the receiver but not through the switch :( and I do not understand why.I hope you can help me in this and I thank you in advance
The blue light behaviour may have changed with firmware changes. Frustrating. The ch12 switch needs to pass through mid. So high mid low; Not high mid high or not low mid low or not low high low high.
Thanks for your quick response! In fact I updated the receiver S8R to the latest version 180328 .... so can you confirm that the procedure of creating the channel 12 I did it correctly? Channel 12 configured only in the Mixer tab and with the values as mentioned above ... I have tried again in the movements passing through the center but it does not work .. I would not like the new firmware has also inhibited this function in addition to the blue light.
I'm back to version 171213 and now as you said the blue light turns on when the receiver is turned on but the problem of the switch assigned to channel 12 still does not work for me :(
Hi thanks for making this video, I am having problems setting up lua scripts on my S6R, I think I followed your directions, but I will re-watch the video. I got an error message on my taranis, it said "error no signal bottom pin" Do you know what I did wrong, I checked the pin layout and I think it was correct I connected the servo in the servo port on my QX7S and I also tried the back port.
his receiver with its ability to stabilize, has been a real fiasco. The tools that originally worked have ceased to exist and do not appear anywhere. This FreeLink does not work in Windows 10 and in previous versions, it does not read or write to the receiver. The the lua tools only in the new versions of the SD and only SXR_Calibration and SXR.LUA WHERE IS IT ? . Incredible FRSKY !!!!!
Fantastic, I've been waiting for this! Thank for you hard work.

Thanks. Check the website as well. And let us know how the flight turns out.
Great video! Thanks so much for taking the time to make this & share it with everyone. It is much appreciated!
Bonjour pouvez m'envoyer tout le programme que vous avez mis sur votre radio tamaris je vous en remercie d'avance
Thank you for taking the time to put this video together. A great resource. Much appreciated!
Excellent tutorial! I greatly appreciate your videos. Please keep up the excellent work!
Thanks for a great video. Huge help for a first timer moving from a spektrum DXe to a qx7/s8r.
This is so clear and logical. Made setup a breeze. Thank you...
Super video, just what I wanted; thank you. Very impressed by your effort to make a simple 'desk' model :)
Thanks:)
Any chance you'll try the knife-edge and hovering next? I don't seem to be able to find a single video showing a set-up or being demonstrated.
Check the link in the description to the documentation. It shows the switch configuration for those modes.

Love your test bed airplane! Where can I get one?

Great vid very helpful, any thoughts about doing a set up vid for the hover and knife edge settings?

Follow the link in the description for details of the steps to follow.
Thank you. I'm already happy I had to update the S8R firmware (... syntax)
Very helpful, thanks a million!
In this video we will be doing what you already know.

I have not. Check my blog post for links to forum threads where this is discussed.

Yeah.. The tip was there all the time. Thanks. Already signed up.

My QX7 Don't have SxR.lua ?
OpenTX 2.2.4 firmware in transmitter

Huh. On a whim, I went back to an older version of the SxR root folder, and it worked. Weird.
Hi, nice video
A dumb question: are these receivers can be used for Heli model?
Thanx!
lynxAzur nah
RCdiy thanx for the answer, guessed but not sure :)
It seems to me that no frsky receiver have fbl then ?
Use a kbar and a normal receiver I suppose
Thank you for the tutorial. Btw, what red thumbs are that? Can we buy it from somewhere else?
Private Banggood:)

To a bec for power.
Thank you I assume that one can power the S6R from any of the pins e.g. channel 3 (throttle)
Yes. Any RC receiver has all the power pins joined to each other.
Much thanks! Truly helpful! But should the gear and flaps on ch5 and ch6 move when initiating the self-check? They are set as aux1 and aux2, NOT as ail2 and elv2.
I’ve been on a thread where ch5&6 were used for switching lights. They would not switch till the switches were moved during self check.
I thought it odd that when entering the self-check, ALL the servos would move, including ch5 gear which should not be given attention as it is not selected as a control surface. Of course, I have the plane resting on the gear so it all messes up!

You are using an X7. Use the pins near the usb port. Use a regular servo wire.
RCdiy thanks for your reply! I appreciate it, I tried the servo port right near the USB port with a normal servo wire
Great video! Thx
thank you very helpful
