Great set of videos. Thank you. Note to all - the SxR will work better when it is firmly mounted as close to the C of G as possible. This should ensure the onboard accelerometers / gyros sense the true attitude/acceleration changes, in a consistent way, for all axis & directions.
Thanks for a plain English explanation of this flippin' receiver set-up. I'd been beating my head against a brick wall and getting nowhere, until another flyer recommended your channel. I've been flying r/c for about 50 years, so have a vague idea of what I'm doing! One of my preferences is airborne video, and as you are probably aware, getting a model - no matter how large - to be a stable camera platform is not easy - what looks, from the ground, to be stable, is in reality bouncing and wobbling all over the place! Hence my choice of the S6R, as there is no room in the fuz for an add-on external system. My normal camera platform is an e-powered glider, with a moderately large span, so I need to set up the 'level' flight on the glide, and now I know about channel 12 - I might make some progress!
Thanks Lee. Everything sorted on the bench, ready for maiden tomorrow. Its all responding as it should and despite its complicated nature, I have confidence in the setup thanks to these videos. Patreon subscription well spent!
Spent my time watching these two videos getting to know the Taranis qx7 and s6r with stab'. I'm a lot more confident with the radio and receiver. And! got it working!!. Well done
Great 2 part series, Thanks for sharing this. The extra tips helped me out. I have now set up both S6R and S8R. They work brilliant. I have not had to use the panic switch YET! Touch wood...
I am slowly working my way to flying for the first time my latest & 'Greatest' plane design. Using S8R it is fine except don't yet have more than one mode SA up working with other two positions not stabilized...so that is OK...some tip on how this should look on the qx7 to get other two might be good. Also, everything working in flying wing setup except only way to get correct stabilization is with pins to front. Thanks for all your great help.
Thanks for the video. Been trying since last week to set this up and struggling as I'm using a 9xr pro and and ersky 9x firmware. A lot of this video relates to the radio/firmware I'm using and even now has the lua script available for the S6R. The only difference is the lack of a second 3 position switch for self check but is easily bypassed by using the failsafe button as you mention. It's now inside a Skywalker Falcon and working. Thanks again.
No idea if you can help, but I've followed your 2 part series and am having problems getting my S8R receiver to work. I have a Taranis X9D+ radio that I bought 3 or 4 years ago. It has always worked flawlessly but it still had the original firmware, version 2.0 something. I realized that I needed to upgrade, so I looked at the choices and decided to go middle of the road with a tried and true firmware and installed version 2.2v0021. That got me a nag screen about the "expected version" and I got that fixed by a change to the SD card contents. So far so good. I next went to the FRSKY site and downloaded the newest firmware for the S8R receiver (FCC version for US use) and followed your tutorial on running a servo cable (male to swapped red/black lead male) from the external module pins to the smart port on the S8R receiver. The firmware upgrade went just fine (to a point). It finished properly. When I attempted to continue with the S8R LUA file, I realized that the firmware upgrade had deleted the BIND that I had done with the receiver and it needed to be rebound to the transmitter. PROBLEM: It would NOT bind. Others have apparently hit this same wall. I found this message on a forum: "HI, just found the problem. The S8R-ACCST-V2.0.1 DOES NOT BIND!!!! I downloaded the previous version, S8R_FCC_20190531.frk and binding is successful." I had downloaded and installed the newer SBR_ACCST_V2.1.0 rather than the slightly older S8R-ACCST-V2.0.1 but I had the same problem with it NOT binding. I was able to successfully install the "OLD" firmware version (S8R_FCC_20190531.frk) and then the receiver would BIND once again. I have scratch built an 80" fixed wing video platform; hence the desire to get the S8R working correctly (I have 2 shiny new S8R receivers and both are behaving the same way) After binding with the OLD firmware, I was able to run the calibration LUA successfully (on both S8R receivers). I am using separate aileron servos on channel 1 and channel 5. I had all of the flight controls configured and working properly before beginning this little nightmare. I went through part ONE of this TWO part series and set up channels 9, 10, and 12 exactly as you showed. I ran the S8R Lua file and configured the settings to match the plane. The flight controls just got weird. Ailerons worked 1/2 way --- I got level to full right turn but no left turn. Elevator went up but not down. I lost rudder throw to one side. I thought maybe I needed to delete the MIX setting for channel 5 (as per you PART one screen on the mix --- I wasn't certain at the point where I watched that screen so I left my channel 5 mix in place). Deleting my channel 5 mix did nothing good. At this point I am left with a bunch of flight controls that only half work. I have been at this total process for about 8 hours and I am FRAZZLED. Suggestions will be gladly accepted. MY FIRST THOUGHT ---- Do I need to go to a radio firmware in the 2.3 series rather than the 2.2????? and then reinstall the latest version of the S8R firmware????? Will the receiver bind with that combination of firmwares? At this point I have swapped in a V8FRII receiver to make the plane flyable again and I am considering installing an older HK 3 channel stabilization box that I have. I would much prefer to get the S8R to work as it should. HELP!!!!!!!
Hi Lee - I've been struggling with the S6R for weeks now, trying to get the altimeter and vario to work with it, and failing - The altimeter won't reset either, it is seemingly stuck at minus 200 feet, even after a repeated telemetry reset… The exact same vario/altimeter module worked perfectly with the X8R rx - With the vario selected on, I get random single bleeps at mid tone, and higher pitched pip-pip while the vario is stationary on the bench. Lift the vario over my head, and I get the pip-pip - once! and the bleep when I put it down again - not the continual tonal variations as the height changes. I sometimes get the pip-pip AND the bleep at the same time! Here's my set-up - Transmitter is Frsky Taranis plus - version 2.2.4 rx is S6R gyro vario set-up - p11 (of 14) Special Functions - SF9 - SB (arrow down) Vario - p13 Telemetry - sensor 6 Vspd * 0.0f/s 1 sensor 8 vari * 0.0ft (blank) - can't access it to change In the sensor settings, I've got - Sensor - Vspd - type Custom - id 0110-1 - unit f/s - precision 0.0 - ratio offset 0.0 - auto offset etc boxes all unticked Have I missed something silly? I've tried altering all settings - one at a time! - with no joy.
Thanks for the help! I have set up both an S6R and S8R. But I found I still needed the STK Tool to flash updated firmware to both. Out of the package I wasn't able to toggle convenient mode on/off or switch Ch 5/6 to AUX modes. After that, however, it was step by step like you describe. Thanks Again!
With gains set reasonable low on auto-level is is possible to perform a loop while in that mode. It get very exciting at top of loop when the S6R can't decide the difference between up and down.
Ty for the help. I loved your epilogue. Frsky is equipment is impressive. I feel completely neglected as a customer and ripped off paying these prices for items that need such extent of deep education, soldering. Are you freaking serious. I had to make a connector too Feels like college....a bunch of BS on be. Thank you for your rant and getting us through it. I'm in awe how is goes on and on.
Hello, I am a happy subscriber of your channel and can't tell you how much I have learned from your videos about my Taranis DX9+ SE radio! I switched to this radio about a year or so ago from a JR-11x and never looked back. it was a steep learning curve for me, but your videos were an incredible help! I would like to get your advice on an issue I'm having with both the S6R and S8R receivers that I have in different planes. I only use the Quick Mode and fly a lot with self leveling since I'm older and want nice easy, relaxing flights. I issue I'm having is that in Self Leveling Mode the plane flies very level from side to side, but varies in pitch. Sometimes the planes fly straight & level and other times they go into a shallow dive. Many times during that shallow dive they will level themselves out and fly straight again. This seems to occur at all different air speeds. I have re-checked the plan's CG to make sure they were correct and re-leveled the planes many times with a slight nose up attitude and re-calibrated everything, but it seems to make no difference. I had the Auto Level on both the ailerons & elevator gain set to 80 when this was occurring. Yesterday I changed the Auto Level elevator gain to 60 in two of the planes. It seemed to correct the problem in one of them, (at least for that one flight), but not in the other. I was hoping that you might have some advice. I have sent two separate inquiries to FrSky about this, but have not received any responses. Thank you, Tom
I just completed the setup of my S6R using your instructions. Very clear instructions, so during install no problems. When I tried setting the "'self check"" using CH12 I was not able to get blue led on TX, so I used S/F switch on TX. But now I noticed that also CH9 and CH10 (mode and gain) do not work. The plane stays in level mode. I am using S6R EU LBT firmware 171204.
Fantastic video, your didactic is incredible, the best in RUclips. I do like auto stabilization options and they have saved my planes from crashes with a flick of a switch. The intent of S6R with all in one is good and may save space but setting it up is overly complicated and time consuming. I'll stick with plug-and-play Arkbird Tiny and the CC3D Atom and spend hobby time in the field.
Wonderful instructive series of videos. I totally agree the FrSky are starting to lose the point. I recently purchased 2 SR8 Pro Rx's and the hassles in setting them up is not worth it, almost to the point I want to sell all my frigging FrSky equipment now. Next time I will just purchase a standard gyro as I do not trust that these receivers will act as required
They are definitely finicky. I think once you do it a couple of times it will get easier. A year ago I had trouble binding and setting up a basic rx. Now I'm finding myself less scared and progressing a lot quicker. (frsky, opentx) If you have a second radio it makes making changes easier because you don't have to screw with your only working radio.
Thanks for the video. I was able to set the S6R in a Ranger 757-6 for fpv. Works perfectly. Is it possible to set up a camera panning servo on Channel 6 using the S2 rotary knob of the QX7 or is Channel 6 only meant to work as part of the stabilization circuitry for Elev. 2? Will appreciate a response. Thank you.
Great video as always. I had first set up the receiver with the STK, then later figured out how to use the Lua Script with your help. The one thing that is still a mystery after looking at your and other's videos is the relationship between setting gains for individual surfaces via the STK (and probably the Lua) and the single gain setting with the potentiometer. Does the pot override the gains set with the STK. Does the pot change all gain settings equally, i.e. pitch, roll and yaw? If so how can you maintain different gain settings for the different axes? It might also be helpful to explain all the S6R Lua configuration options.
If FrSky ever take the time to write a useful manual that actually helps us all work this thing - then I will. I’m not planning any more videos on this until that happens.. As I said in the video, nice tech but just too damn hard to use.. Happy flying!
Thank you so much Painless360. I had this rx lying around and never got around to using it cause it was so complicated. Just got it up and running today. Test flight this weekend hopefully
Brilliant double video set. I have just ordered my first fixed wing - Bixler - and thinking about this as the receiver. Fancy making something to aid baginners, so difficult to set up! Still, with patience and your tuition I think I will give it a go......... watch this space.
Setting this up on a Bixler with X-lite now, thank god for your videos mate!! Once you do it once it all makes sense and seems pretty straight forward but first time out without this video would be bit of a nightmare. Depending on how well this works, I might add it to my Efxtra. I only bought it to get rid of that bobble foam planes have when in the air, so keen to see if it does smooth it out, I mostly fly FPV so if its not entirely smooth its very obvious
Excellent work getting all this together in one place and putting complex such procedures in a user friendly fashion! For info I've used the s8r with pins front, just need to swap over correction in the lua script, and or can re configure from beginning but this time place Rx body pins down when it prompts pins up and so on. Even got carried away for fun and mounted across the plane ie pins left or right and again can be configured to work in all modes. Have you considered a tutorial on updating the firmware for an IRX4 multi module.? Thanks again, great job 😊➰🙃
Hi Lee, thanks for making this SxR setup vid. I have found it very useful. Just one question. I seem to be getting a small amount of yaw correcting automatic rudder movement when my S6R setup is in "level" mode. Frsky's instructions suggest this shouldn't happen. I have the latest firmware installed and can confirm the mode switch is working correctly. Is this normal?
Thanks o lot for great information - it helped me a lot to configure my S6R. HOWEVER, a question - towards the end you mention that after the first initial flight you should finish with a rebind? What do you exactly mean - should I bind the receiver again? This would mean me to take out teh receiver from the plane ... which would the calibrations done would be lost. Or am i wrong here? Once again, thanks a lot for a great channel with lots of information! BR Lars
The idea of the final bind was to re-store all of the settings (including failsafe) onto the receiver but with modern firmware it should save any changes automatically. Happy flying!
Yeah the graupner stabilizer receiver setup is so much easier and works well with gas/nitro engines, but I don't fly graupner I'm an FRSky guy. I'm kind of looking into getting a S6R but I'm kind of leaning more towards just getting an F3 flight controller and running Inav.
Just a quick one , i just bought the taranis x9d 2019 plus access .all the latest firmwares , i cant use the trims or reverse in lua script for the s6r i have the scroll wheel instead of buttons and it will only work in one direction hence nothing can be adjusted ,everything else works spot on after following your vids , do you have any ideas ? all the latest firmware
Thanks, for this video. One question: at around 13 minutes, you say to rebind the receiver - I'd be grateful, if you could explain why this is necessary. Thanks. Many thanks, for your quick reply.
Hey Mr. Painless. I'm pretty new with planes. I've noticed that you know and explain good things so is there plane gyros with that acro mode with autolevel In any other gyro than radiolink Byme?
There are lots of options for simple stabilisers, right up to advanced flight controllers. Check out this video that explains all about it and may help you decide what you need - ruclips.net/video/YAfNC55Udu0/видео.html
Instead of moving the channel 12 to a 2 -position switch then just override the channel 12 switch's middle position with -100 in Special functions. then you have panic button without the hazard of set it in calibration mode.
I am curious as I use the only two position switch for retracts and I am setting this up on an EDF where doyou suggest I move the Helpme function to for safety.
Wow, thank you Lee! So much detail, this was super useful. Would you recommend this for a beginner to fixed wing or another receiver with level flight/stabilization. I have a TX16 multi-mode.
I think Frsky have a new version now. A stabiliser can be a good aid to teaching or learning to fly. I tend to use flight controllers now... Best of luck
@@Painless360 Thank you, I just joined your Patreon :) You've been so helpful because there's so much to learn and consider. I may be wrong but I believe the new version isn't 4-1 compatible any more. You connect the flight controller to the receiver through the SBUS? Is there a brand you recommend?
If the new version is ACCESS only then you can't use that with a Multiprotocol module. I use CRSF or SBUS for most receiver to flight controller connections now. Almost all of the wings and planes I fly here have INAV in them.. You can now ask questions on the Patreon system and get much more detailed answers.. Welcome to the inner circle! :D
Well done, what a fantastic two part tutorial. I have to agree that this seems awfully complicated to set up. I had been thinking about it for my fixed wings, but now having second thoughts. How would you compare this to the iNav with GPS option in terms of complexity? I have been watching your inav tutorials for fixed wing too. to gain awareness of the options, but not made any purchases yet.
Hi. thanks for exellent instructions. I Have a S6R and I'm new to the hobby. I wanted to have ailerons on seperate channels, but the AIL2 is not respoding to stick movement. Is there some setup that needs to done? I have the 4 basic inputs, Mixes in the order on the receiver (with AIL2 on channel 5).
It depends on what you want. Personally I like iNav on a cheap FC as you also get the benefit of an OSD, and you can add a GPS too for some extra fail-safe features...
Thanks so much your video made this a much simpler process you are a Sir in the RC world, are there any vids on the advanced modes like knife edge and prop hanging, I’m fairly new to Opentx and this stuff is amazing, I’ve got a lipo sensor to figure out now so I can get max flight times Thanks again 👍🏻👍🏻
3 Questions: 1. When I'll change the calibration switch to the momentary switch, I won't be able to turn the calibration program? It's only works with the 3 switch position? 2. After all the flying and calibration ends, I need to rebind the receiver?? Wouldn't it delete all my work? 3. Will you do a video about the advance program of the S8/6R? 3d and other? Thanks man.
Thanks, very helpful. Unfortunately when I am in the calibration mode and am trying to calibrate the S6R on its own my rssi warning comes on, my rx light starts to flash and it prevents me from completing these phases. The same thin happens when I try and configure the rx inside the model. However when I am not in the calibration or configuration mode my transmitter transmits fined and the rsss shows to be over 100.I have moved the transmitter away from the rx and have even moved to different locations but to no avail. I have three of these receivers and they all do the same thing. Any idea why it is doing that? Help would be apparated.
@@Painless360 It appears that updating my tx16s to the latest version of edgetx 2.10.1 has solved it. Thanks anyway and keep up the good and helpful work.
I have finally managed to get one S6R receiver to work properly, thanks to your two videos. What a huge effort you have made! I must say that this was actually the third receiver I was attempting to set up. The first one responded to the full stick movement of the ailerons, but only in one elevator direction and not at all with rudder. The second went crazy when putting the channel 10 switch in auto level mode, so the solution was to use offset so as to avoid the switch getting to that mode. I am now buying additional receivers; I pray they work properly... By the way, has anybody else have had to deal with dud S6R receivers?
If I've set failsafe on my radio and then power off and the plane acts as expected does that mean it's correct or do I need to press the rx button as well? I'm thinking it's OK but first time it went to full throttle scared the hell out of me
Thanks for this vid, helped me a lot! One question though, I didn't get it why that last re-bind was needed? Is not everything stored with the second self-check?
It’s an old habit of mine that I always do one final blind when the plane is set up so the failsafe condition is recorded on the receiver. With X series receivers it’s actually slightly different - it’s just good practice. Best of luck!
Many many thanks, absute brilliant Video! Only chance for me to get this thing running. I now have a problem using Lua to set everything. With my new x9d+ on the latest firmware the Lua let's me select a parameter, say "wingtype" but I can not change it. Is it a bug, or Firmware inkompatibility?
Thanks so much for video. I have a question though. When programming channel 11 for added flight modes, will knife edge only work in one orientation? It seems to me it always goes to the same side no matter what. Thanks in advance.
Done it.all by what you have explained, but my rudder is not correcting and on my 3pos switch i only have stabi mode, middle and down do nothing, only if i switch my momentary switch it auto levels
Calibration and setup with lua seemed to go well. I was following your tutorial - set a Ch 9 gain on S2 - twiddling that I get (0-50-100) - I note that with full beans of +100 and switch A down (Ch10 +100), I can feel (but only just) tiny control surface corrections which seem to be going in the right way. I think that is at least a small However, with switch A up, Ch10 is -100 and a death roll to starboard results - this I don't understand - there is no change in the aileron(s) on the channels monitor screen, What am I doing wrong? PS., how do I re-subscribe to your Patreon?
I have the Taranis X9D plus. I got and loaded the firmware for my S8R receiver and flashed it. When I tried to calibrate it w/ SXR, the first pic came up showing which way to orient the receiver. After that nothing would occur after I hit enter. What do you think might be the problem?
Great video series. Im very new to RC planes and just got this receiver and should have it in a day or 2. The plane I have is an Easy Trainer 1280. The radio I have is the FrSky ACCST Taranis Q X7. Would it be possible to program in flaperons with this receiver/transmitter combo?
If you only want them as Ailerons then a Y cable is fine. If you want to use them for something like flaperons then you'll need each on its own connection..
Hi Painless when I setup my s6r I do the self check move sticks in high rates it’s all good but when I’m in flight and flick to mid Rates I get no control at all do you have to do self check on each rate positions ? Please help
Thanks for that Lee, clear and informative as ever. As a reasonably experienced pilot I was intending to use this in its 'advanced' mode in a 3D capable plane just for a laugh. I can find no videos at all with it operating in hover or knife-edge, has anybody actually done this do you know?
+patrickcol not that I know of. But now a few of us I've actually got this working, it does provide a solid foundation to explore the more advanced settings of this thing. If you try and get it working - please drop me a line and let me know the tricks. Best of luck!
I followed your setup. Everything works great in off mode, and in stabilized mode. As soon as i put it in self leveling mode, or the oh crap mode the aileron goes nuts when the plane rolls right, and the elevator goes in the wrong direction. Do you think I screwed up, or do you think I got a bum reciever? The gain works well as well.
While were at it I bought the new Qx7s, and I can't seem to find the version of firmware on open TX, so every time I try to update the firmware so I can use the 4 in 1multi module it says that the firmware isn't compatible with the firmware on my radio. I got the lua script with the SD card. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Very helpful set of videos. Liked and Subscribed :) I still can't get past correction check though. self check seems to go through fine but it doesn't seem to correct when I twist it around. I'm using a 9XR Pro with an XJT module so I may have incorrect limits on the 3 position switch (I have it at half for all 3 then 100). Any ideas? Thanks.
I watched it again and I think I was able to turn on auto leveling on the 3 position switch. I can tell when auto levelling turns on because the servos get noisy and the surfaces do move when I move the model around. I can't tell if stabilization works when I switch down from auto level though.
Logical switches are the key. Check out the Opentx mix school series. I show dozens of setups that cover how to use them.. Set one up to detect when the rudder is below 30% and add that to the retract switch... Best of luck
oh damn i get dizzy allready have it here and soon my second plane ever will arive. first pnp. i will tell you how long it took me. Happy i have your videos as company mate
its done thanks to you. in total i spend 8 hours for my first pnp and first taranis setup. the next one will take significant less. Tommorow maiden Nanchang cj6 from FMS
Thanks for your videos. I have some S8R in a EDF Jets and works fine, but just now I have a freewing Mirage 2000 Delta Wing and I have a lot of problems whe stabilize or autolevel mode. When turning right or left wing beguin to move continously and only when plane is flat it works well. I have reduced Travel of Ail to 80 and mixer to AIL 50 and EXPO 50 but just the same. I have a S2 button to control the gain and putting it at minium also the same issue. I have changed the gain by lua script to ail 30 and Ele to 60 in auto level and estabilization and also the same. The only thing I have to do is to reduce the gain to a 10 for AIL and ELE and test what happens. Isaw in yout video that you put gains to 0 value at all items but I thing that it will be as a manual mode because no gain to mantain the plane flat in autolevel. What do you think about it? Thanks There are othe parameters as AutoCrab and others but I don't know what is it function. Last firmaware and las Lua in my Taranis 9Xplus
I'm not a fan of the S6R and S8R, I think that the idea is a great one but the implementation is lousy. I've used the HobbyEagle stabilisers and had nothing but good experiences with them. I had one inside that Skysword model I looked at a few months ago and it transforms how well that model flies.. Sorry I can't be more help on this one.. Happy flying!
@@Painless360 Thanks for your anwser. I have used CC3D, A3pro and S6/8R all of them work fine but the frsky in mi delta mirage is terrible. In other kind of planes works perfect, specially in bad posicion manoubers return to flap position at once. Perhaps in delta wings has no good solution. Today I crash Mirage becouse of if...
Awesome videos it's helped me so much, I'm having 2 issues first is it seems channel 10 switch is setting it to stabilise and knife edge and when add channel 12 I get auto level mixed between the 2 switches. The second problem is it will not go into calibration mode with the channel 12 switch, is there something I'm missing?
All of the information I managed to figure out is in the video. This Rx a great idea, but poorly implemented. Best of luck getting it sorted out. Happy flying!
Will the stabilization and auto level work on a 3ch plane that does not have rudder? I am at a university and we are using the RMRC Skyhunter that has an H-Tail Setup with no rudder. Thanks!
Having faffed about with this RX for some time now I cannot understand the thinking behind Frsky releasing it in either it initial or revised form. The first version of the software was simply horrendous, how many users became familiar with the correct sequencing of two, three position switches I wonder. The revised firmware has taken a step toward simplifying things but I haven't seen any explanation of how the 'Panic Mode' on channel 12 differs from the 'Self Level' on channel 11, plus if it is not handled correctly it is possible to initiate a self check and crash the model. Even the new SXR manual has inconsistencies to confuse the user. The Electronic/Computer Geeks need to speak to Users more and listen to what they say. Just because a thing is possible it does necessarily mean that its a good idea. What on earth are they thinking?? I'm a big fan of FrSky and much appreciate your own efforts to clear he fog. Thank You Painless 360 and FrSky, Come on, get a grip!
Hello, I have everything setup on s8r and done all self checks after I trimmed the plane. My question is on channel 12 lockout, I just unassigned the switch. It does not try to calibrate when moving the switch now. Is this how to lockout the switch or should I do something different with it?
Once its all setup do I need to have the plane level when plugging in the battery ?. Reason for asking its easier to install the battery with the plane upside down but I wondered if this would cause a problem.
Ok Lee, here’s the problem..how do I bind my orange r617xl satellite receiver to my naze32 board ?? I’ve tried the cl in beta flight but it tells me unknown commands
To make setup easier seeing this is the first time I have ever done it I decided to not do the flaperons. I had it most all working until the rebind then for some reason everything got messed up. The stabilize switch is no longer working and the pitch correction goes to the ailerons and if it needs to correct enough it turns the motor on. Tried to redo everything but nothing seems to help. After just over 8 hours of working on it still nothing. Any idea where I could be going wrong?
Tricky to comment without knowing what happened exactly. I am not a fan of these, it’s a great idea but a terrible implementation. Best of luck getting it sorted, I’d probably start from scratch.
Have done many times. Have worked on it more and have sorted some stuff out. Ailerons are the problem now. They move fine one way but not the other. Are there any better stabilized receivers out there for Frsky radios?
Need help - Can you have frsky R9stab i have problem with self check As self check done some times all mode works and some time only auto mode work with 3 position switch At 3 position switch Position 1 auto Position 2 stabilizer (but it takes same auto) Position 3 manual ((but it takes same auto and when plane nose down elevator go up without touching any stick 😢
@Painless360 SOLVED - if any one use this series SXR receiver make sure that in radio set channel 1-16 or as per GitHub many problem solve With single setting.
i can bind and calibrate and all that, can get throttle to move motor, but cant get ailerons to move, its like theres no servo signal output from the reciever, any help?
When programming a remote controller and using a buddy box. Does the buddy box also need to be set up the same so that the stabilization work? Or me as a master can set stabilization on when handing control to the slave?
sometimes my lua script wont fill out, or even partially fills out. also when i change the servo directions for self level they dont seem to save. i have an s8r and have it pointing plugs to the back and antennas forward. i thought this was correct but seems completely backwards on self level. also the rudder does nothing on self level. any help would be appreciated!!!
@@Painless360 thanks bro. It was just my stupid mistake. I was trying to do it plugged into the smart port. Being so close to the rx was causing telemetry loss and interrupting the process lol!!! It all works now!! Now I'm just trying to see how I'll mount the rx. I'm thinking I could turn it 180 and just reverse whatever needs reversing.
By the way the latest software version (2.0.1) for flashing the S8R receiver could not bind with my X9D Plus. I had to select the last 2019 version which bound perfectly.
I'm having same issue with my qx7. Another problem I have is that I can't get it to self check no matter what I do. Are you having any issues with this?
Avecforte after changing back to the old software binding was no problem. Not sure what you mean by “self check”? Would be grateful if you could explain and then I will check for you.
Im stuck with the switches. I put them on the channels but i they dont seem to work. im trying to turn sabilisation ect off to finetune the servos and so on. but i cant manage it.
@@Painless360 its done, it was just one silly mistake what inteferred ofcourse with everything. D16 was correct but only 1-8 channels instead of 12. i realized falling asleep last night(facepalm) greeting from Germany
Hi i thank you for your very Nice vidéo I’m from Québec Canada and Need informations regardons S8R or S6R receiver may i used them in gasser plane like dle20 and up to dle55 Thank you very much
I've not used them in one personally but I've heard of pilots using them in models like that. I may make some up to date videos on the latest generation of stabilisers... Happy flying
+Deep Fried Sushi The Podcast it's exactly the same setup but select 'wing' as the plane type in the lua script and connect the two servos to the elevator and aileron outputs as per the diagrams in this video. Everything else is the same. Happy flying!
How do you turn simple mode on????????? All I could do is zero out all the gains on every thing but self level, and self stabalization Don't see a simple mode just enable, disable.
Solved; X9D newbie mistake: Output channels were set to 1..8. I set it to 1..16 and all works well! Thanks again for the excellent tutorials!
Great set of videos. Thank you.
Note to all - the SxR will work better when it is firmly mounted as close to the C of G as possible. This should ensure the onboard accelerometers / gyros sense the true attitude/acceleration changes, in a consistent way, for all axis & directions.
+Martin Schyns Great tip, thanks Martin!
Thank you for this excellent support. Without your channel I would never manage.
HELP!!!!!!!
The S8R is a nice idea but let down by a truly terrible implementation by FrSky. All I figured out is in the video.. Best of luck!
Hi Lee - I've been struggling with the S6R for weeks now, trying to get the altimeter and vario to work with it, and failing - The altimeter won't reset either, it is seemingly stuck at minus 200 feet, even after a repeated telemetry reset…
The exact same vario/altimeter module worked perfectly with the X8R rx
- With the vario selected on, I get random single bleeps at mid tone, and higher pitched pip-pip while the vario is stationary on the bench. Lift the vario over my head, and I get the pip-pip - once! and the bleep when I put it down again - not the continual tonal variations as the height changes. I sometimes get the pip-pip AND the bleep at the same time!
Here's my set-up -
Transmitter is Frsky Taranis plus - version 2.2.4
rx is S6R gyro
vario set-up - p11 (of 14) Special Functions - SF9 - SB (arrow down) Vario -
p13 Telemetry - sensor 6 Vspd * 0.0f/s 1 sensor 8 vari * 0.0ft (blank) - can't access it to change
In the sensor settings, I've got - Sensor - Vspd - type Custom - id 0110-1 - unit f/s - precision 0.0 - ratio offset 0.0 - auto offset etc boxes all unticked
Have I missed something silly? I've tried altering all settings - one at a time! - with no joy.
Osunds like a problems with the firmware on the S6R. I'd check for any updates. Frsky really could have done better with this.. Happy flying
Great video. I just ordered a QX7S and spent i the wee bit extra on the S6R (over the X6R). Hoping the setup goes smoothly.
Thanks Lee, another brilliant video for someone waiting for both the S6R and his first model to arrive in the post.
Hello,
I am a happy subscriber of your channel and can't tell you how much I have learned from your videos about my Taranis DX9+ SE radio!
Thank you,
Tom
great video as always Lee
Thank you very much! I had some problems setting up, but by following your two movies everything is working now... tnx a lot!
Best of luck with the maiden! Hope the videos helped. This thing is just so darn complicated!
Brilliant double video set. I have just ordered my first fixed wing - Bixler - and thinking about this as the receiver. Fancy making something to aid baginners, so difficult to set up! Still, with patience and your tuition I think I will give it a go......... watch this space.
There are some much simpler options Kevalino.
+Kevalino Picks best of luck with it, I do wish this was a lot easier to set up as when it does work, it works brilliantly! Happy flying!
Awesome Lee, looking forward to advanced modes ;)
Setting this up on a Bixler with X-lite now, thank god for your videos mate!! Once you do it once it all makes sense and seems pretty straight forward but first time out without this video would be bit of a nightmare.
Depending on how well this works, I might add it to my Efxtra.
I only bought it to get rid of that bobble foam planes have when in the air, so keen to see if it does smooth it out, I mostly fly FPV so if its not entirely smooth its very obvious
Followed your setup. No issues there. The receiver that I am using, SR10-PRO, will not enter the "calibration" mode.
That's really amazing. Great video!
All I can say is this one worked for me. I’m not a fan of this thing - nice idea but lousy implementation and code.. best of luck!
brilliant series thank you
Thanks for the help mate, wouldn't have got it setup without you
I agree without his help this would just about be too hard!
You are a remarkable educator. Thank you!
BR
Lars
The idea of the final bind was to re-store all of the settings (including failsafe) onto the receiver but with modern firmware it should save any changes automatically. Happy flying!
Yeah the graupner stabilizer receiver setup is so much easier and works well with gas/nitro engines, but I don't fly graupner I'm an FRSky guy. I'm kind of looking into getting a S6R but I'm kind of leaning more towards just getting an F3 flight controller and running Inav.
iNav is awesome and gives you all of that GPS and OSD goodness too. Probably easier for many to setup too! ;)
Just a quick one , i just bought the taranis x9d 2019 plus access .all the latest firmwares , i cant use the trims or reverse in
lua script for the s6r i have the scroll wheel instead of buttons and it will only work in one direction hence nothing can be adjusted ,everything else works spot on after following your vids , do you have any ideas ? all the latest firmware
Thanks, for this video. One question: at around 13 minutes, you say to rebind the receiver - I'd be grateful, if you could explain why this is necessary. Thanks.
Many thanks, for your quick reply.
To set the failsafe. It isn't needed as the failsafe is updated dynamically.
Brilliant vids, any thoughts on doing an advanced vid for the hover and knife edge function? Best regards Mike
I don't use the S6R any more, I'm not a fan... Happy flying!
Hey Mr.
Instead of moving the channel 12 to a 2 -position switch then just override the channel 12 switch's middle position with -100 in Special functions. then you have panic button without the hazard of set it in calibration mode.
thank goodness you did this. youre awesome.
Thank You for your answer.......incidentally, what controller do you now use?
Taranis or Tx16s. See my kit picks video from August last year..
@@Painless360 Thank you!
Well done, what a fantastic two part tutorial. I have to agree that this seems awfully complicated to set up. I had been thinking about it for my fixed wings, but now having second thoughts. How would you compare this to the iNav with GPS option in terms of complexity?
I have been watching your inav tutorials for fixed wing too. to gain awareness of the options, but not made any purchases yet.
iNav is much more powerful with GPS and OSD support, the SXR provides non of those. It's a nice idea but should be a LOT easier to setup and use..
Hi. thanks for exellent instructions.
All I figured out is in the video. This isn't as easy to setup and use as it should be (as you're finding out). Best of luck!
Thanks Lee always excellent .... would you say it was better than a hobbyking product or omninbus f3 ? seems harder to install
I've not made any. Best of luck
3 Questions:
Thanks man.
All I knew are in these videos. The S series receivers were a good idea with a lousy execution from FrSky. Best of luck!
I’d try re-flashing the problem receivers. Best of luck!
Painless360 Tried that three times... did not work. Will try with the STK tool.
See my video on flashing FrSky receivers for more tips.. best of luck!
If I've set failsafe on my radio and then power off and the plane acts as expected does that mean it's correct or do I need to press the rx button as well? I'm thinking it's OK but first time it went to full throttle scared the hell out of me
Very helpful. Hope to try mine next week. I am not clear on the difference between Auto Level and Urgent mode.
+John Frits same thing really, just one is there for emergencies! ;)
Not sure. I've not used this since the video.. Let me know if you figure it out.. Best of luck
Thanks so much for video. I have a question though. When programming channel 11 for added flight modes, will knife edge only work in one orientation? It seems to me it always goes to the same side no matter what. Thanks in advance.
All I figured out is in the video. I'm not a fan of this thing. Best of luck!
A sensor can be connected to this receiver to see the battery voltage (11.6 V or 22.8 V ......)
Yes, see my videos on Smartport sensors... best of luck!
I think that is at least a small
However, with switch A up, Ch10 is -100 and a death roll to starboard results - this I don't understand - there is no change in the aileron(s) on the channels monitor screen,
What am I doing wrong?
PS., how do I re-subscribe to your Patreon?
All I figured out is in this video. RCDiy has some good content for it. Links to Patreon in the description. Best of luck!
What is the difference between self level and panic mode?
I have the Taranis X9D plus. I got and loaded the firmware for my S8R receiver and flashed it. When I tried to calibrate it w/ SXR, the first pic came up showing which way to orient the receiver. After that nothing would occur after I hit enter. What do you think might be the problem?
I've never seen that here, I'd check the forums in case that latest firmware has a bug. You can try a newer LUA script too..
Yep, see my video on OpenTX flaperons.. Best of luck!
Thank you very much, I will check it out. One question, do the ailerons need to be on their own receiver channels or will it work with a Y cable?
Same here. On leveling mode. OMG. It goes crazy. Any thoughts?
Hi it’s me again what is the best orientation for those two antenna is that i have to bent them or straight a head ? ? ? Thank you very much Lucien
At 90 degrees. See my Antenna Lab series... Happy flying
Any ideas? Thanks.
All I did is in the video - I'm not a fan of this product. Nice idea but horrible implementation..
I watched it again and I think I was able to turn on auto leveling on the 3 position switch. I can tell when auto levelling turns on because the servos get noisy and the surfaces do move when I move the model around. I can't tell if stabilization works when I switch down from auto level though.
Hi. I have a question please. How can I program my Teranis so that my retracts don’t retract when the rudder is deployed by more than 30%.
Logical switches are the key. Check out the Opentx mix school series. I show dozens of setups that cover how to use them.. Set one up to detect when the rudder is below 30% and add that to the retract switch... Best of luck
Does anyone know if the self-level mode will work through the S-bus output? Or will it only work with servos connected to the PWM outputs?
oh damn i get dizzy allready have it here and soon my second plane ever will arive. first pnp. i will tell you how long it took me. Happy i have your videos as company mate
its done thanks to you. in total i spend 8 hours for my first pnp and first taranis setup. the next one will take significant less. Tommorow maiden Nanchang cj6 from FMS
@@gammlerzen403 how did your maiden go? And how do you like the setup?
Thanks
There are othe parameters as AutoCrab and others but I don't know what is it function.
Thanks!
Yes it should. I'm not a fan of these myself but it should work ok with some setup. Best of luck!
Thank you for the directions! After updating the rx everything went smoothly
Does the S8R need to have maximum movement on control surfaces during calibration and can this me reduced to easier weights after calibration?
I don't use these any more. All I figured out are in the videos now. Sorry I can't be more help on this one..
Great video . Can you tell me do you need to make a delta wing model or a normal plane model to fly delta wing ( does the rx sort this out for ya ?)
See my wing build for beginners videos. Hope they help..
Cheers , will have a look , tried many things but still dont work , calibrated etc ok but still no joy lol , any chance of a video ???
What is it you're looking for exactly? If that video didn't cover it then it sounds like you're doing something a little out of the norm..
Think i've got it sorted now , I normally use spektrum so all this frsky stuff is new to me and such a big learning curve , thanks for your time.
Hello, I have everything setup on s8r and done all self checks after I trimmed the plane. My question is on channel 12 lockout, I just unassigned the switch. It does not try to calibrate when moving the switch now. Is this how to lockout the switch or should I do something different with it?
If you don't have a switch assigned to that channel than it should be fine. Happy flying!
Once its all setup do I need to have the plane level when plugging in the battery ?. Reason for asking its easier to install the battery with the plane upside down but I wondered if this would cause a problem.
I've not done it that way but I'd try and set the model down as quickly as you can to let everything initilise cleanly... best of luck
Ok Lee, here’s the problem..how do I bind my orange r617xl satellite receiver to my naze32 board ?? I’ve tried the cl in beta flight but it tells me unknown commands
Please see the Naze32 and Seriously Pro videos. I cover it in there.. best if luck..
Any chance of a non-basic setup video? I have every channel working correctly, yet cannot for the life of me get the Rx to go into sell test.
Not on this channel. This thing is horrible ;) . Best of luck with it
To make setup easier seeing this is the first time I have ever done it I decided to not do the flaperons.
I think I have it set. lol
thanks for this video just got my s8r and thanks for this video you done i cna now set it up right thanks again
Need help -
Can you have frsky R9stab i have problem with self check
As self check done some times all mode works and some time only auto mode work with 3 position switch
At 3 position switch
Position 1 auto
Position 2 stabilizer (but it takes same auto)
Position 3 manual ((but it takes same auto and when plane nose down elevator go up without touching any stick 😢
I've never used that other stabiliser. Best of luck
Could be a few things. Power, servo connections wrong, incorrect S6R setup... what troubleshooting have you already done?
"The plane can fly itself right out of your life"... too funny! I watched a jet fly out of someones life last summer.
Yep, always a heartbreaker when that happens.. :(
When programming a remote controller and using a buddy box. Does the buddy box also need to be set up the same so that the stabilization work? Or me as a master can set stabilization on when handing control to the slave?
It depends how you have it setup. If you’re only passing over the Thr, Ail, Elev and rudder then no.. happy flying!
So while passing control of ailerons, rud, thr, and elevator the stabilizer will do its job without having to program the slave?
See my videos on it for details. Best of luck!
sometimes my lua script wont fill out, or even partially fills out. also when i change the servo directions for self level they dont seem to save. i have an s8r and have it pointing plugs to the back and antennas forward. i thought this was correct but seems completely backwards on self level. also the rudder does nothing on self level. any help would be appreciated!!!
I'd try another version of the script. This is a nice idea but frsky have done a poor job of implementation.. Best of luck
I've set it up as you said but channel 12 is not going into self check. it only goes into recover mode. i can´t find where i´m going wrong
What troubleshooting have you already done?
Update, it seems my S6R firmware did not update correctly and it works OK using the old switch combination settings.
between you and shondorc i managed to get mine right , its not that hard but yep 18 months of open tx is about right lol
By the way the latest software version (2.0.1) for flashing the S8R receiver could not bind with my X9D Plus. I had to select the last 2019 version which bound perfectly.
FrSky could have done a lot better with this thing. As I've said from the start - nice idea but lousy execution.
All I did is in the video. What troubleshooting have you already tried?
@@Painless360 its done, it was just one silly mistake what inteferred ofcourse with everything. D16 was correct but only 1-8 channels instead of 12. i realized falling asleep last night(facepalm)
greeting from Germany
Excellent. Many thanks.
Hi i thank you for your very Nice vidéo I’m from Québec Canada and Need informations regardons S8R or S6R receiver may i used them in gasser plane like dle20 and up to dle55
Thank you very much
I've not used them in one personally but I've heard of pilots using them in models like that. I may make some up to date videos on the latest generation of stabilisers... Happy flying
Off to buy one. Please augment this for a wing too! Love your vids!
+Deep Fried Sushi The Podcast it's exactly the same setup but select 'wing' as the plane type in the lua script and connect the two servos to the elevator and aileron outputs as per the diagrams in this video. Everything else is the same. Happy flying!
Thanks for the shoutout!!!
You're welcome buddy! I couldn't have done it without you ;)
How do you turn simple mode on????????? All I could do is zero out all the gains on every thing but self level, and self stabalization Don't see a simple mode just enable, disable.
It should be in the LUA script. I’m not a fan of this set up, they’ve made a mess of the software. Best of luck!
