The keyboardist and vocalist on most of their hits, "Gregg Rolie" had just as much to do with creating this band as Carlos. They used the name 'Santana' because they thought it sounded good. Gregg Rolie went on to start his second 'Hall of Fame' band Journey several years later. Gregg Rolie is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice!
Nothing beats the original Santana band line-up. Schon and Escovedo joined later. The line-up at this concert is the same one that plays on the first two albums ("Santana" and "Abraxas").
Santana has guitar sound that is unmistakable. Few ever achieve that type of distinction as he has. Special shout out to Greg Rolie, who sang most of Santana's hits, along with most of Journey's hits prior to Steve Perry. If only the two of them could have styed together, just image the incredible music they would have created.
This sounds absolutely great, prob slightly better than the record! That hammond sounds fantastic never mind Carlos! This is theeee song for grooove. Good post, many thanks, like the mexican hendrix comment too!
What a wonderful work by Dave Brown. Easy, simple, but as in Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock that bass is the atmosphere of the song. Music is done by pause and touch, someone said....
Great concert footage from days past! Makes you wish you were front row or on the stage with a nice bunch of boys!BUT NO GUITAR TECH FOR CARLOS,OR HIS GUITAR WOULD BE IN TUNE DOOOH THANKS FOR POSTING THIS Very enjoyable peace, love and dope
Happy Birthday Gregg Rolie.. i guess it would be difficult to be a lead singer when the cameras never on you, and you cant move form your instrument!! glad your in the RRHOF!!!
It's really hard to grasp how groundbreaking it was for a band that is singing in a language other than English to get as big as they did. Ritchie Valens was able to do it but died before he could really have as big an impact as he should have. Santana proved that if the music is really great people will sing along even if they have no idea what they are singing
Gregg Rolie, later of Journey, sure gets down on the keyboards on this original Tito Puente tune! Hmm, I guess this was a year before Neal Schon, also later of Journey, joined Santana.
This is the ORIGINAL Oye Como Va! Carlos changed the opening riff in later version and it don't sound to good. We used to play this and the crowd went nuts!
What can you say about Santana and especially as early work is first four albums were just thank God for them real music real players one thing I would love to see is him and dickey Betts get together and create some beautiful music both of them have made some of the best instrumentals this feather has ever heard God bless you Carlos call dickey Betts up please before it's too late peace love feathers and music forever
What an amazing group of performers as well.
This song introduced me to Latin music. I think that for a lot of Anglos "Oye Como Va" did the same. Thank you Santana AND Tito Puente.
Tito Puente 1963
Sure, bro.
Try:
Os Mutantes, 1969
He STILL sounds this good 50 years later.
I know ,the 70s right?
I really support till sounds this good 50 years later

Pretty easy to do when you surround yourself with much better musicians than yourself.
54 now! ❤
Nothing beats the original Santana band line-up. Schon and Escovedo joined later. The line-up at this concert is the same one that plays on the first two albums ("Santana" and "Abraxas").
Don't forget Rolle too.
I love their music! I still listen to them all these years later. They are unmistakable
Thank you Mr. Puente! Hermanos hispanos!
Greg was on fire!!!! Listen to him GO OFF in that solo man 🔥
Carlos has such an unmistakable guitar tone.
this is really a gem the original Santana line-up live!!!, and that sound from Greg's keyboard is excellent!!! bueno pa' gozar!!!
One of THE greatest grooves of all. Full stop.
So amazing
It is superbe that "Oye Como Va" the offficial interpretation, not a note change.
Very appreciated. Thanks.
Put in my favorite.
man I love the percussions in this song!
Amazing and one helluva song by Santana ! Still givin' goose bumps even after 54 years in 2024 !
2:58 that look that Mike gives to Greg like "you are the man" and he certainly is.
He had a sixth sense for sound !.. what incredible lead guitar !.. the flourishes are so creative !
I love this song! All the instruments together sound amazing. Every time I see this song live it’s always perfect 👍👍
44 years ago today, Santana performed this classic joint! One of my favorites!
WOW! This is rock gold. Was anyone tighter or more exciting to watch than this line up?

I lived in Boston and Tanglewood was a great venue. They had lawn seats for 3.00 and you could bring in a cooler full of beer and weed great times
the man was gifted then and still is

Rolie has to be one of the best Rock organists ever. So solid, and swings like there is not tomorrow..
my favourite Santana line-up. Oye Como Va!!
Janis, Singapore
Blast from my past!
Something about Santana's music. It makes me feel like I'm in some kind of electric sky church. Its the same way when he plays with John McLaughlin.
This song is trippy as shit dude

Like Toussaint l'overture: Los cueros me llaman , el timbal (I don't know what that means, but I sing it along, every time)
A very sexy song! There is no life in you, if you hear this and don't want tomove.
when y'a think this super guys was only aronud 20 maybe 22...phenomenals musicians...!!
Splendid
AWESOME
Gregg Rolie, later of Journey, sure gets down on the keyboards on this original Tito Puente tune! Hmm, I guess this was a year before Neal Schon, also later of Journey, joined Santana.

Of there is one Song written for Hammond, it’s this one!
Written by the late, great Tito Puente
This is the ORIGINAL Oye Como Va! Carlos changed the opening riff in later version and it don't sound to good. We used to play this and the crowd went nuts!

Maravilha!!
Te amamos Santana. Eres un grande. ♥
They sound fantastic just like the studio recorded version
Lo máximo del gran CARLOS SANTANA
Groovy guiro playing Shrieve
The solo drummer is amazing . Is that Michael shrieve?

Larga vida a Carlos Santana y su Latín Rock.
Santana is too much!
