mountain west video on Utep next should be really interesting. They’re at even more of a crossroads than the pac about what the identity of their league will be
I like Wichita St and Memphis. They can be travel partners. St Marys facilities are sooooo bad and Randy Bennet is gdtting pretty old. I like Saint Marys but they make me nervous.
Could you write and record a video examining the expansion candidates for the PAC-12, pros & cons of staying and going, etc? I don't understand UNLV's and (to a lesser extent) Air Force's insistence on staying. Also interested in the possibility of UTSA, Memphis, Tulane, and potentially Tulsa, North Texas, and other AACs joining.
it mostly is the financial gain they'd get from the other schools leaving, issue is that is super temporary and very short sighted, I assume they join sooner than later tho, and those AAC schools start having real coversations with the PAC
@@nashmonti120 the MWC best schools all left, they have the biggest brand in basketball not named UConn left to get, Oregon State and Washington State were already solid brands, the MWC deal will be significantly worse and the PAC will be in position to get that G5 CFP spot most years than not. thats why it's short sighted. Gonzaga wouldn't be leaving 4 decade old conference where they were getting preferential treatment if it wasn't financially the move up to get in the PAC.
@@yorkqueer considering the WCC distributed $4.35 million in total to its members from tv ratings revenue, that’s not saying a whole lot. And even if they took the best brands from the MWC, go look at the data. Nobody watches half these schools unless they are playing a huge P4 opponent. Boise state is head and shoulders above the rest and was only getting $5 million in the MWC. Am I supposed to believe that the two schools left for dead, Boise state, and the ghost of MWC’s past is going to get THAT great of a tv deal? And also Gonzaga doesn’t even move the needle that much for a tv deal because… THEY DONT PLAY FOOTBALL. I get why schools like ucla, usc, Texas, Oklahoma, etc. left their conferences. Gaining tens of millions of dollars from new tv deals alone would be worth it, but stabbing regional schools in the back for a couple extra bucks? What a joke, have fun being “the best G6” conference, aka the king of the turds.
Great video! Just some follow up questions: 1) Do you think the addictions of both Seattle and GCU played any part in Gonzaga's decision to leave? 2) Amy chance New Mexico St joins the MWC? I dont think New Mexico is gonna allow that. 3) We know Sacramento St wants that Pac-12 invite but should UC Davis make the move up? 5) Are any Big Sky schools interested in moving up? 6) Would San Diego ever consider making the move up?
1) Gonzaga was always going to leave the WCC for whatever conference they felt could give them a large increase in tv revenue, IMO. Big East/Big XII didn't happen, so they took the Pac-12. 2) I think the MWC's top priority now that they've hit 8 full FBS members is whatever the networks tell them. And the networks are likely telling them to get into the ETZ/CTZ in decently populated regions (Toledo, NIU, TX school if Toledo declines). 3) UC Davis is totally capable of an FBS move-up and highly desirable as an FCS call-up. They just appear comfortable with their current situation and haven't publicly shown FBS interest. 5) We know Sacramento St is but are not aware of publicly stated interest from any other Big Sky schools. 6) As a private school, USD is tailor-made for the WCC/non-scholarship PFL arrangement. No desire for FBS much like the Big East/MVC privates.
@d1_360 Thanks for the info. Your videos provide me with great info for my TikTok conference realignment videos. I am nowhere near as polished as you. Keep up the great work. Can't wait for that Hawaii video.
@@zerocool1980 Truthfully, I'm skipping the Hawai'i video as I need a lot of time to do MAC tv ratings since 2013 in preparation for an NIU video. Have fun with your TikTok videos!
I knew something was up when Grand Canyon and Seattle got WCC invites for next season. Though I'm curious on how far this drops the WCC in conference basketball strength. They can't rely on Gonzaga getting upset in the conference tournament to get a extra bid or a great conference win against the Zags either. Curious to see the NET rankings
I kept wondering how Stu Jackson convinced Gonzaga to allow not just Seattle but Grand Canyon into the league. I had said the Lopes would only be fully welcomed if Gonzaga left. Well now the conference has no choice. They need the Lopes great fanbase, resources and winning pedigree to at least cushion the blow of the Zags departure. I'm not saying had they not been invited that the Zags would've stayed but again it was surprising to see both get the invite. Ultimately this could seal Stu Jackson's fate as commissioner. Because if years from now Oregon St, Wazzu bolt for the ACC and the Pac-12 essentially becomes the new Mountain West just as the Mountain West became the new WAC and Grand Canyon gets slapped with an academic scandal. And I'll throw in St. Mary's leaving for the Pac-12. Then you've killed your league. And for what? He brokered a nice deal with Oregon St and Wazzu. That was enough but he wanted more.
@@zerocool1980 on message boards rumors were Grand Canyon was more wanted then St Mary due to the Phoenix market. Though I don't see any non football schools until they at least get to 8. I think Cal Baptist probably gets a invite to the WCC to get back to 11. They get 20 game basketball games. The conference can hope to hold onto Gonzaga tournament units at least for 6 years. They need deep runs by Gonzaga the next 2 years. At least sweet 16 or elite 8. They probably hope to get in another school also. WCC gets any unit Washington State or Oregon State makes the next 2 years. Even if only earning 2 units a tournament that would earn 10 units assuming Gonzaga loses in the elite 8. The conference splits $3 million at least in that case. They'd need to spend that money wisely especially if they go back to a 1 bid league and most likely lose their TV deal whenever it expires.
