Someone please give me divisions for all
Grand Canyon has just accepted an invite to the Mountain West effective 2026
What a stab in the back.
Who do you think Conference USA will backfill with if they even try
Tarleton
Good stuff.
Sayonara to Conference USA's longest tenured member.
Look at that map! Four schools in the Pacfic time zone and four in the mountain time zone! Add Sac St and UC Davis and Tarleton and ACU- ok they are central time zones. Or UT Arlington as basketball only. Or Sam Houston or NMSU That’s 12 schools, 2 divisions with 6 teams! Reduce travel in basketball double round robin in the division for 10 games and one game vs the other division for 6 games! So only 3 teams in the mountain and central time zones will travel to Hawaiii, and Hawaii would travel to the other 3 teams each year!
In the event NIU or Toledo did leave for the MW in only football..if NIU says yes, would they have to go to the summit league? Their basketball team is really bad and the horizon league could say no. If Toledo says yes, are they good enough that the Missouri valley could take a look? They offer a new market for the MVC and they have the resources to compete in that league..
When Tarleton leaves for FBS-either MWC or CUSA, the WAC will have 6 members, one below the minimum required for a non football conference. The move from D2 to D1 will likely to be shorten to 3 years in January. But, the NCAA only allows a two year grace period for conferences to reach the minimum number of teams. I’m sure a conference can get a one year waiver, but I don’t think any conferences would ever want to be in that situation. So what happens to the WAC CBU UT Arlington ACU UVU SUU Utah Tech What D2 schools in the region will move up? Midwestern St? Don’t say West Texas, until that President leaves. I’m sure the schools are calling other conferences about membership! WCC doesn’t need a third team in the LA market. So, where does CBU go? The three Utah schools, along with Denver could form a western pod for a 12 team Summit? UTA and ACU to the Southland? But, I wonder if Arlington may be getting interest from football conferences. Conditional membership if they add football within five years.
My MWC 2026 prediction. They will have 10 full members with Tarleton and Sac St. So they get the central time zone in Tarleton, and a different market in Texas.
The Mountain West WILL not invite NMSU. Face it. If Tarleton State and Sacramento State and EVEN MAC schools have been in more talks with MWC people, that is the "Proof in the Pudding." I put this comment in to hope that I am wrong. It doesn't look like it. Why are they looking at Toledo, Ohio and DeKalb, Illinois as ideal fits😅
Very enjoyable.Do you plan on doing one about the OHL as well?
Yes, in a few months. I'll reply to your comment when I upload it around January, so you get a notification.
New Mexico State + MWC = PERFECTION
I felt it was a big mistake for UTEP to leave the WAC for Conference USA back in 2005. Two days before their announcement, I had UTEP being in the realignment mix. Smart move for the Mountain West Conference. I hope New Mexico State can follow suit. When the WAC employed? Idaho & New Mexico State were rejected by the MWC & the Sun Belt. The Pac-12 or the MWC should get New Mexico State. Somebody should get Idaho to jump back into FBS.
Great Show!
Who do you think the cusa will get next in order to replace the miners?
Missouri State next year or 2026 and Delaware next year or 2026. Already been done.
Everybody that lives in San Jose area South Bay's is going to start going to Fresno State
San Jose State is stupid
MW just picked up Hawaii they can add Sam Houston and NM St to get to 10
This would be freaking awesome!!!
NMSU is the red headed stepchild in this region. It won't happen. Just be grateful that Aggies are in a conference.@@Agzilla1999
The fact that Montana State was in that top-5 attendance list for non-AFA schools is telling. It might not happen this cycle, but in terms of fan interest, the Montanas belong in the Mountain West.

I was at EIU when Jimmy G was there. We had some great football in that span. Anyway, I used to sit in the north balcony of McAffe and do my homework. Good times.
This man literally called the Hawaii move to the mountain west and e voila Brett McMurphy puts out the report hours later 😂
Great video. Picks Up ⛏️
Just announced, Hawaii is now a full MWC member! Will start in 2026. They should now add Tarleton and Sac St.
They should add Sac State and NMSU. Tarleton doesn't bring ft worth like many people think it does ..or will.
@@Agzilla1999 Maybe not Tarrant County as Fort Worth has TCU, UNT, UTArlington to support nearby as well as Tarleton State. But Parker, Hood, and Johnson Counties surrounding the west and south sides of Tarrant County and are east of Stephenville's Erath County are very aware of Tarleton State, as its closer than UTArlington...
Another great video. I'd actually like to see you do make a video on what you think realistically the Pac-12 can get from a media rights deal, i.e. revenue per school, tv partners, etc.
I’m curious too, as the video he did in depth on the current MWC schools would lead me to believe $6-10 million is the range. A lot of people who are fans of pac-12 schools seem to think they could get $12-15 million, and maybe they could, but I don’t think the ratings for that are there
@nashmonti120 i feel like it'll be closer to $10 mill than $7-8 at best for Pac-12 media rights. That could entice school like Memphis, Vegas, Tulane. I'm wondering if Gloria Nevarez will pitch the idea of non-FB schools to MWC president's. The options out west aren't limited but the fee to go to the FBS level have raised massively. Schools may just not have the resources or care to move. They might look at teh Dakota St schools and say if they're comfortable we're comfortable.
@@zerocool1980 apparently MWC are in talks with NIU and Toledo for football only membership, it sounds like MWC is trying to retain current media value or even go above
You should mention El Paso has the AAA Baseball team for the San Diego Padres and average about 7k people a game.
Don't know if I missed it in your video, but it's worth noting that Ciudad Juarez right across the border has 2 million+ people. A lot of UTEPs international students I believe simply commute across the border.
UTEP has been DYING to get into the MWC for years, so glad they made it!
NMSU is in the El Paso media market. Why would any conference have two teams in the 68th media market? Doesn’t make sense, Two teams in the 2nd media market, with over 10M people makes sense. I would bet the MWC would love to add a LA school, but no other LA school plays football, and none of them are at a St Mary’s level of sustained excellence! UCI is maybe the most successful LA area school, the past 10 years.
The appeal of NMSU is that they are a plug and play option, as the only thing they would have to do is change the conference logo on their uniforms and fields. That being said, I think Tarleton state, uc davis, and sac state are 3 great additions for the MWC at this time
UC Davis might one day get serious about football. But Sac State IS serious about it now. Add NMSU and viola ... That's a solid stable conference. Well at least until UNLV leaves. But there are no other options in LA. Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach are never coming back unless it's FCS. Plus NMSU has built-in rivalries.
@@Agzilla1999 don’t get me wrong I want NMSU too, but I just don’t think it will happen. With the news of Hawaii becoming full members and the MWC turning towards NIU/Toledo for football only membership, I think the conference is going for media markets right now. That being said, uc davis could be awesome at football if they really wanted to
Why ...to keep another confidence out of the market and double dipping the borderplex
@@ReisterJP hello! The last time New Mexico State and UTEP were the same conference, was the Yeah 50s or 60s. Despite the growth it’s still not a huge market.
Can we get a video on MWC best expansion targets?
I second this
Keep an eye out as a D2 school could be called up soon. Central Oklahoma finally thinking of moving up once the thing with lawmakers are set in place. WAC they could go to.
Great take as always. Thanks for all your efforts!
Hawaii joining the mountain west would absolutely nuke their travel expenses
The added 10% of the MWC pool of money would be a great way to offset those expenses.
@@mozilla2576 but ideally you want more than 8 football teams. 7 conference games is not enough! Is it more reasonable to pay hawaii that money or try reaching out to Tarleton?
@@rangersking6699 I assume you agree that adding Hawaii olympic sports is a smart idea for the conference. Now addressing your most recent comment...Yes, having a full slate of teams is the ideal situation...and that number is more than 12 in current times. Though, it may take years to find an extra 5 or more schools to round out their numbers and create value for a tv inventory situation. I would suggest that the MWC was sitting on their hands the last 10 years or so when not adding more schools at that time. They could have used that time to foster any up and coming team into their situation in a nice and easy fashion. Now, they have to rush things.
@@rangersking6699 Hawaii added for all sports today.
@@mozilla2576 I saw! Mountain west nixing the travel subsidies they pay to other teams should help offset the extra costs
Praying it’ll be NMSU next
Me too
New Mexico has made the mountain west agree to never add NMSU, NMSU athletic department is also a mess of scandals right now but hopefully they turn it around soon
@ they may run out of choices soon
Super happy for UTEP really hoping they bring in New Mexico state as well
Based on this analysis, should the Pac-12 have taken a closer look at Wyoming? I get the market doesn't make a lot of sense, but their brand, TV ratings, and fanbase is definitely better than UNLV. I also think Wyoming has really good athletic facilities.

Pac 12 is a shit show!! Always has been!!!
Since this video has been published, the WAC might be toast: 5 MWC schools have left for the PAC Gonzaga left for the PAC UTEP left for MWC CUSA/MWC need Tarleton, MWC may add Hawaii/NMSU PAC may want GCU, MWC may want GCU, SanFran, StMary’s WCC might need to nab ~4 big west schools(Irvine, UCSD, Davis, Long Beach?) and UVU using departing schools tournament $ and exit fees UT Arlington will want a better basketball league and could dip for a non football spot in CUSA(they already do baseball for DBU, why not UT Arlington for non football?) Big west needs Cal Baptist to get to 7 and WAC is too unstable to stay Utah tech and southern Utah could go to big sky for a more stable league ACU then just goes to south land.
Love the hockey league content!!! Would be a lot of work with the amount of expansion/relocation but would love to see a video about the NAHL and or the FPHL
The BIG12 is good but overrated when tested in the NCAAT over the past 10 years (9 seasons): Final Four Appearances, 1st Rd Wins, Nattys (per Wiki 2015-2024. 2020 N/A) ACC: 9-5-3 B12: 5-3-2 (Excludes OK; includes Houston) BIGEAST: 6-4-4 SEC: 5-0-0 (Includes OK) B1G: 7-3-0 (Includes Oregon & UCLA) ACC - Appeared in 7 of 9 Final Fours (6 different teams) BE - Appeared in 5 of 9 Final Fours (2 different teams) B12 - Appeared in 4 of 9 Final Fours (4 different teams)
Since NCAA units are 6 year, would like to see all your analysis at 6 not 10 years since college sports have such constant turn over. the recent data would be apropo.
Great video! Just some follow up questions: 1) Do you think the addictions of both Seattle and GCU played any part in Gonzaga's decision to leave? 2) Amy chance New Mexico St joins the MWC? I dont think New Mexico is gonna allow that. 3) We know Sacramento St wants that Pac-12 invite but should UC Davis make the move up? 5) Are any Big Sky schools interested in moving up? 6) Would San Diego ever consider making the move up?
1) Gonzaga was always going to leave the WCC for whatever conference they felt could give them a large increase in tv revenue, IMO. Big East/Big XII didn't happen, so they took the Pac-12. 2) I think the MWC's top priority now that they've hit 8 full FBS members is whatever the networks tell them. And the networks are likely telling them to get into the ETZ/CTZ in decently populated regions (Toledo, NIU, TX school if Toledo declines). 3) UC Davis is totally capable of an FBS move-up and highly desirable as an FCS call-up. They just appear comfortable with their current situation and haven't publicly shown FBS interest. 5) We know Sacramento St is but are not aware of publicly stated interest from any other Big Sky schools. 6) As a private school, USD is tailor-made for the WCC/non-scholarship PFL arrangement. No desire for FBS much like the Big East/MVC privates.
@d1_360 Thanks for the info. Your videos provide me with great info for my TikTok conference realignment videos. I am nowhere near as polished as you. Keep up the great work. Can't wait for that Hawaii video.
@@zerocool1980 Truthfully, I'm skipping the Hawai'i video as I need a lot of time to do MAC tv ratings since 2013 in preparation for an NIU video. Have fun with your TikTok videos!
@d1_360 NIU?! Am I getting a scoop lol? Thank you.
I knew something was up when Grand Canyon and Seattle got WCC invites for next season. Though I'm curious on how far this drops the WCC in conference basketball strength. They can't rely on Gonzaga getting upset in the conference tournament to get a extra bid or a great conference win against the Zags either. Curious to see the NET rankings
I kept wondering how Stu Jackson convinced Gonzaga to allow not just Seattle but Grand Canyon into the league. I had said the Lopes would only be fully welcomed if Gonzaga left. Well now the conference has no choice. They need the Lopes great fanbase, resources and winning pedigree to at least cushion the blow of the Zags departure. I'm not saying had they not been invited that the Zags would've stayed but again it was surprising to see both get the invite. Ultimately this could seal Stu Jackson's fate as commissioner. Because if years from now Oregon St, Wazzu bolt for the ACC and the Pac-12 essentially becomes the new Mountain West just as the Mountain West became the new WAC and Grand Canyon gets slapped with an academic scandal. And I'll throw in St. Mary's leaving for the Pac-12. Then you've killed your league. And for what? He brokered a nice deal with Oregon St and Wazzu. That was enough but he wanted more.
@@zerocool1980 on message boards rumors were Grand Canyon was more wanted then St Mary due to the Phoenix market. Though I don't see any non football schools until they at least get to 8. I think Cal Baptist probably gets a invite to the WCC to get back to 11. They get 20 game basketball games. The conference can hope to hold onto Gonzaga tournament units at least for 6 years. They need deep runs by Gonzaga the next 2 years. At least sweet 16 or elite 8. They probably hope to get in another school also. WCC gets any unit Washington State or Oregon State makes the next 2 years. Even if only earning 2 units a tournament that would earn 10 units assuming Gonzaga loses in the elite 8. The conference splits $3 million at least in that case. They'd need to spend that money wisely especially if they go back to a 1 bid league and most likely lose their TV deal whenever it expires.
