Nothing brings me more joy than seeing you get so excited about all of your book mail!! I am so delighted to hear that The Fall immediately pulled you in, because now you know what Ryan has in store when you are reading book 1 (which is more run of the mill set-up book). Also, can't blame you for the little splurging, you desere that joy in your life hahah. Happy reading! ☺
cracking up... one of the books you featured, I also did while filming earlier :) I liked and subscribed :) Killer book haul! I 100% get what you are talking about regarding Lonesome Dove. I'm like that about another book that gets brought up a lot. Time and a place for it, for me.
Lonesome Dove is really a great book. I read it in the Peace Corps overseas and boy did it make me miss home(not from the west but am from the country).
Good for you getting the dragonsteel leatherbounds! I also backed it to get the Words of Radiance one, and was early enough to the party to be able to add on a SIGNED leatherbound of Way of Kings as well :D so stoked for those to show up in the mail at some point!! And now I (we) are locked in to backing the eventual leatherbound editions of all future stormlight books to keep the matching set 😂
This was a beautiful haul! I added a lot of those to my BOLO list😅 As far as what you spend your money on, I think book buying is one of the best ways to do so...I mean, you're not spending it in a vice or bad habit so, don't be too hard on yourself😂 those are some gorgeous special editions😍
The Fall was crazy I will start Bound and Broken later today. Thanks so much for your amazing generosity in sharing a series that you love. Makes this buddy read even more special for me.
Oh I really get your excitement about Words of Radiance being signed. My copy of "The Wisdom of Crowds" is signed AND dedicated to me by Joe Abercrombie, Lord Grimdark himself. That is now my most valuable possession and I'm taking with me to the grave 😂
I will soon be reading Lonesome Dove and starting the Bound and the Broken as well. I read the fall and was like you, I couldn't get enough! Keep up the good work guys!
What a haul, and that Way of Kings edition is so cool. As others have commented here, a booktour would be fun, I’m guessing you have a lot more books then what we see in your studio. Mr Bakkers first series a prince of nothing is something special. I’ve not read anything like it before or after. The world building, bleakness, themes, mystery and prose is in its own league. It’s not for the faint hearted though, to put it bluntly it’s messed up at parts, but man there is so much to it. Just writing this I want to do a re-read haha 😆
Bakker is getting crazy love here in the comments. Makes me wanna grab it quicker. Might have to put thought into a book tour. There is more than is on camera for sure.
I can't wait for you to read the rest of Sun Eater; seriously good stuff and so many jaw dropping moments. And WOW those leather-bounds are stunning for real.
Hi Bakker fan here (and it is pronounced like baker) and having each of your books in the series be a different size is the proper way to read the series 😂😂
Todd here. Nice video John. The setup you and your son have is always relaxing/cozy to watch. I enjoy your enthusiasm. I love it when you show off your new books and books you are reading. I have the first full length book of Blood & Fire by Cahill. I read the first chapter and was enjoying it, it's currently on hold. I picked up The Darkness That Comes Before by Bakker years ago. I read I could not get into the philosophy and the writing style, it went way over my head. I tried re-reading it and enjoyed the first novel in the series. I re bought trilogy after watching other booktubers explain the story. I plan on starting Bakker soon. I hope you enjoy Lonesome Dove. I tried Lonesome Dove because it was described to me as a quest/adventure story so I tried to read it. I will say this there is a slow build up.
What a great book haul, many of those I'm not familiar with but look forward to hearing your thoughts. I am however currently reading The Darkness that Comes Before by R. Scott Bakker and so far it has been Amazing, I think you are really going to enjoy it.
Hey, man. I don't comment much at all, but I want to tell you I appreciate this content. It's always so refreshing to see your excitement, and it's always good for a few smiles. I appreciate you and the content you put out as well as just the overall vibe you always have.
@@Talking_StoryAbsolutely! Been struggling to finish my book for several years and every time I am in a rut and watch a video or two of you since you started, it reinvigorates me to keep going. You'll definitely be the first person I will send a copy if I can ever get through the process! If nothing more than as a thank you. Keep doing you!
That's a lot of books you got there John, and no echo this time! My friend Liam is a big fan of DJ Butler, and it does sound like he would be an interesting author to check out. Also good luck with Bakker, I was hesitant to try him for a while because he got into a heated debate with a friend of mine over worldbuilding, and I didn't really like how Bakker handled himself. But some of my friends on here have been telling me to check it out. Cormac McCarthy and epic fantasy? Count me intrigued! That was a touching story about your dad, I sometimes forget that you're actually from Texas. I am hoping to read it sometime either next month or in the next few months since I'm really itching for it to be a part of my summer reads. Perhaps we can read it together? If you want to wait to try it out, that's ok with me. I did want to get the idea out there though. I also see the Dr. Pepper on your desk, a fellow man of taste I see. Keep up the great work!
Nothing like Dr Pepper. I would be down to read it together if our schedules link up but it sounds like you may be getting to it sooner than me. Jakob started running 2 audio tracks that is why I had to clap at the start to synch them up with the video.
In a humorous twist, Jakob has tied John's Stream Deck to The Clapper :D Nice to see Witchy Eye in your haul. I also grabbed a copy of that this month.
Great book haul John gotta love those special editions 😊 I’d love to go book shopping with you too only I think the passport cost, flights, accommodation might leave me touting on the street just to buy a book haha 😅
Just bought The Vanished Birds about a month ago. Looking forward to it. I couldn't get into Lonesome Dove, but I did read and enjoy Anything for Billy, his version of Billy the Kid.
I HAD to back the Words of Radiance leatherbound, really excited about it. Thankfully my wife gifted me Way of Kings last year, these books are gorgeous.
Just realized yall are in NC! Not only is Ruocchio here but also this awesome channel? NC book community is looking strong! Hope to see you guys around some of the bookstores
Sebastien de Castell's a really fun author, The Malevolent Seven's definitely a great place to get a taste of his style. Not quite as flambuoyantly swashbuckling as his Greatcoats stuff, but definitely up there. I think I agree with them, based on what I've seen in your videos Bakker's going to knock your socks off. You're going to have A LOT to talk about, and a very interesting perspective to share. All in all, some amazing books!
not sure how many times its been but i can honestly say its been awhile since i've watched one of your openings without laughing out loud. not to pressure you to keep it up or anything...
I’m clocked in so I have to make sure I put in the hours of proselytizing Simon Jimenez’s books. Going to try to fit Cloud Cuckoo Land into my reading this summer!
As for the Bakker books, the hardcovers are out there if you search. The paperback copies that were available in the states that would all match are very hard to track down. I think you could get the first trilogy in matching covers and sizes but once you start searching the final four books it is very hard to find those that will match the original covers. Not impossible, but nearing impossible… it is bar none my favorite series of all time and can’t wait for you to dig in.
Super entertaining video, as always, John! I just wanted to drop a comment telling you that Too Like The Lightning is my favourite book! I couldn't even begin to tell you how excited I am that this is now on your TBR :))
It's a quartet! So you'll be in for a treat. If you can, I highly recommend the audiobook for this book. The first two audiobooks in this series come with a full cast narration. This series - and especially the themes of religion, morals, identity and science - is just magic to me, and I hope you'll enjoy it too!
