You guys are there enjoying Spain and the local culture-the heck with the food budget! Enjoy your experience because it’s only for a little while and this is a once in a lifetime experience! You can cook in Brazil more but don’t fret about being over budget!! At this point I think experience trumps budget! Enjoy your meals out-after waking long distances, you need the food. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks, Sarah! You're right. This is a.once in a lifetime experience, and once we settle into a but of a slower life, things will even out! We are having the time of our lives and are enjoying every minute 😉
Just FYI for next time, you can also hold luggage in Spain in post offices, it costs less than 40-50Euros for couple months. I did it when I traveled in Spain where I stored all the bulk at post-office in Madrid and at end of my trip came back to Madrid and flew out.
Oh man... that really is good to know! Thank you! That will come in handy in the future, we may actually walk another Camino, so that will be great to know! 😊
Thanks so much for giving us a breakdown of your expenses. Enjoy the moment and don't worry about being a little over budget. Your expenses will be much lower once you get to Brazil.
Great video, thank you for a breakdown of expenses, looks like you are having a blast. You both look so well rested and refreshed and happy. You are right not to stress about being over budget, I think it is expected walking the The Camino de Santiago with having to eat out all the time, accommodations etc. If you were in one place for the month making your own food it wouldn't cost so much. As you mentioned when you go to Brazil in your own condo you will be in great shape. Glad to see you guys are enjoying yourselves!!!
We really are enjoying ourselves, and feel so relaxed. The stress has literally melted away, along with our back pain! We are looking forward to Brazil, staying put in the apartment for a bit and cooking again! Thank you for reaching out, we are grateful for the support! 😊
You look so relaxed! The insanely delicious tapas and wine do add up, especially with our Canadian pesos vs euros🙄. You'll catch up on the budget, you'll get more experienced as you travel, you'll go to more affordable destinations and over one year it will even out.Take care and happy travels!
Thanks, Dominique! Lord, that wine and Tapa thing is great! And you're right, sometimes we think we aren't spending a lot because it is "only" 20€... then the conversion kicks in! Thank you for all of your support! 🤗
It has been a crappy month in Southern Ontario, so you have chosen wisely, in spite of the cost! Thanks for a great video and enjoy watching your travels. Take care! Craig from Hamilton
Thanks, Craig! Ya, we have heard that the weather hasn't been all that great, we hope that June is better for you and that you enjoy your summer! Thanks for all of the support.
You guys look amazing and relaxed. I’m sure you’ll be able to trim costs in Brazil since you won’t have any accommodation costs. Your experience matches what I’ve observed too. $7000 is the new $5000. But that one time shipping cost was also an outlier. Enjoy your time! Gorgeous video and love the transparency!
Thank you! The prices have certainly changed. Sometimes, the hard part is remembering that we are paying in Euro. Things seem so reasonable until the exchange kicks in! We are looking forward to Brazil, and actually cooking and eating at ho.e! Eating out can be rather tiring all of the time!! 🤗
Fun times! Congrats on your retirement! My husband and I are working towards retiring to a life of nomadic slow travel as well. Just a thought but if you could flash a table at the end of the video that summarizes each category and adds up to the total, it'd be most helpful as a visual summary of your budget for the month.
Great suggestion, we oive it! We will try to incorporate that one in the next video. Your husband and you will not regret the slow travel decision. Even though we haven't made it to the slow part yet, the travel in the last two months has been fantastic! 😊
@@FIREWeGo Happy to hear you're both enjoying the FIRE travel life! Looking forward to seeing you both continue your adventures. We also sold our house and have been consolidating down our things to reach our FI number and simplify our lives - big decisions but I think it's more important to have amazing experiences while we're young/still in good health vs accumulating stuff to check off societal lists ;)
👋🏼 Small struggling Travel Channel here. I love your content, thanks for this great video! You inspire me to keep grinding my channel, maby one day I’ll grow as big as you 🥲
Good for you guys. I have been following you since the very beginning. Love your channel and love you both. Great personalities with a super strong mentality on what you want, period! hehe Keep it up and enjoy the only life you have. Dividends and travel baby! Wohoooo!!!!!
Ahhh, thank you so much for all of your support! It means so much. We can't agree more. Those dividends are truly making this dream life a reality for us!! Dividends and Travel! 🤗
I'd say this is an a-typical month for you compared to normal because you are constantly on the move! I would wager that in the future where you are abroad you'll do slow traveling which involves staying longer at each place , having more control over some meals cooking/grocery - in this month literally you had to carry everything you owned! I myself do want to do the camino some day so its very good for me to be learning about your experiences! Oh, and that shipping things to be Brazil was a big chunk of your expenses and that was a typical too.
The Camino has been great, and we would definitely recommend trying it! It's true, once we slow down, our costs will change. It's really interesting too, we actually miss eating at home! Having to go out and look for something every day and for every meal is somewhat tiring! Lol, we are looking forward to walking to a fridge in our apartment and making food!
only the long term averages really matter, it's common to overspend initially but taper down later, in the end over the long haul it will average out. Also since you're going to a lower cost of living area after this you save there.
How are you finding it to be staying/sleeping in a different bed every night? Are you getting good sleep? Do you have private or shared bathrooms in the places you are staying? Thanks!
So, it really depends on the town, the type of accommodation! Tonight, we are in a shares room with 3 bunk beds, and shared bath. This town may have 40 people in it and only 2 albergues (hostels), and neither one has private rooms! However, yesterday, we stayed in another hostel, but we had a private room and our own bathroom! We try to book at least our own room when possible, just for a little bit of privacy at the end of the day. Most of the beds have been great! A few less than comfy 🙄
Oh no….you could have shipped your excess baggage ahead to Santiago via the post office (Correios) and they would have held it there until you finished your Camino! 😢
Oh man... we heard this, too.. but sadly, only after we had shipped it to Brazil. Another.lesson, don't rush things, andet the Camino provide. We were afraid to have this much weight arriving in St. Jean, so we just shipped it. Only after arriving did another Pligram mention the Correios 🫣
I am a visual person so please post some charts of your budget. I also was wondering how much is points versus those that you pay and what cards with rewards are the best. This talk seems like you are tired and not having the best life? Is it that stressful to live out travel retirement?
We can definitely add in a few charts! And we are hoping to get a few videos out on the credit cards we use and which ones are best for what! Lol, we aren't stressed about the travel, just tired after walking 20km a day... we are currently walking The Camino de Santiago, which is 800km across northern Spain, it's great!

Thanks, Virna! We did know that we may be a little over budget in Europe, but hopefully, once we get to Brazil, things will settle down 😊
Very interesting and honest video… Expensive but unforgettable trip 😊
Definitely unforgettable! It has been amazing so far

It was such a great day!! Thank you both for a lovely time 🤗 We can't wait to meet up again!
You guys always inspire me to stay on budget! thanks for another great video
Thank you so much!! ❤️ we truly appreciate all of YOUR support as well 🤗
Thanks for the detail and honesty in your video...y'all are smart and confident you'll make your annual budget as planned.
Thank you! Yes, we are confident that we can make it. Once we are able to slow down, we can reign in a few of these costs!

Really appreciate getting the Canadian perspective on things.
You're welcome! We wanted to see that, too when we were preparing, so we hope it helps!!
Very interesting, it is always interesting to see the planned versus reality.
So true, and we want to share our experience so that hopefully, others can improve their own!
You will get better at the spending. You will learn about new options to help reduce expenses. Allow yourselves the grace to develop.

THat budget is easy. Try it for half that. I look for videos on budget travel. I guess this isn't one of those. But enjoy your travels!!
Agreed. $60k CAD for 2 for a year is a big budget.
We will thank you.

Great video! 🇨🇦 🇪🇸

Curious how much you received from selling your house?
We are looking at doing a video on that soon!

I think walking the Camino is not really the true cost of Europe, so when you are not walking it will be cheaper with more options.
True! The ability to find accommodation for a longer-term and counting/eating at home a bit would offer the price considerably! Thank you 😊

Expenses /spending up, how about income? It should be up as well if you have dividend growth stocks/funds.
The dividends are doing well. They have all increased this year, which is good!
Yay ❤❤❤
Thank you!
Area the $ you mention Canadian?
That's correct. These amounts are in Canadian dollars 😊
I am a visual person so please post some charts of your budget. I also was wondering how much is points versus those that you pay and what cards with rewards are the best. This talk seems like you are tired and not having the best life? Is it that stressful to live out travel retirement?

So supplying charts on a dirt road while traveling 20 km a day makes total sense 😉🙃 😂😂😂
So you sold your car and now your walking.
The situation is much better than it sounds.😂
Lol, the walking is so much better! We are finally getting into shape!
damn you spend $98 per day on food!
Three meals a day adds up for two people! It will go down, though, once we have a kitchen again and are able to do some cooking!
