- Although he was “on” at all times, Kevin Conroy shares a story of a moment where he witnessed the great ROBIN WILLIAMS have a feeling of loss-of-control… shedding light on the innocence of who the man really was.

Kevin Conroy (Batman Beyond, Justice League) joins me this week to share how he’s battled with anxiety throughout his life, stemming from a harsh upbringing in a combative household that no child should be raised in. Kevin goes on to talk about his different family dynamics and the impact that his abusive, alcoholic father had on his future. We also get into Kevin’s evolution in acting from Juilliard to Batman, his experience living with the one and only Robin Williams, and his thoughts on Batman reprisals in Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Robin Williams roomed with Christopher Reeve in college, too! So here's Lex Luthor interviewing Batman about Robin, who used to live with Superman!
Kelsey Grammer was also in the same group as Conroy and Williams. So throw in Beast from X men and you got a massive marvel/dc crossover:D
The World’s Finest all we need is a connection with Luke Skywalker.
The stories about how Robin Williams worked to cheer up his old friend, Chris Reeve, after Reeve's accident with the horse... Or other stories about Williams calling Spielberg while he was making Schindler's List and in an emotionally dark place and RW would call him just to crack him up all the time. What a sweet man Williams must have been.
And DC executives and producers never sees this potential. What a shame. Instead they do Superman 3-4.
Nice!!!
Today I cried for the second time after hearing one of my favorite celebrities died. The first was Robin Williams and now Kevin Conroy. These two guys alone made up a huge part of my growing up. RIP Kevin and Robin.
Batman talking to Lex Luther about Robin.
A true sign that we’re in the Apocalypse
More like Batman talking to Flash about Robin. Keep it in the same universe.
You mean Luthor..
The guy who played Luthor on Smallville also voiced flash on Justice League
Robin Williams was in talks to be The Riddler, but the studio went with Jim Carry.
So sad Kevin has passed away. Just such a wonderful person. You are missed.
Hopefully, he's reunited with Robin now
Bro, can you imagine needing someone and BATMAN is there for you?
Robin Williams was the first celebrity death that impacted me, and now that Kevin has passed it feels like I'm reliving that moment. Rest in peace two of the best and influential actors that I had the pleasure of knowing about.
Yeah man, these are the only two that really affected me. To know that they lived together, just wow. I hope they are laughing wherever they are.
For those who are dead set on believing Robin DIDN'T have depression, all you need to do is really listen to this video.
"Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says, 'Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up.' Man bursts into tears. Says, 'But doctor…I am Pagliacci.'"
Robin was the real Pagliacci.
I'm so happy that Michael let Kevin finish his thoughts. Too many bad interviewers interrupt their guests as they try to convey their experiences.
Then they don't know how to interview. It's the interviewer's job to get his/her guest to feel comfortable and open up about their feelings. Not hold an inquisition.
1:31 You decide.
@@TheCartoons4you and 0:07
To.be fair, Kevin Conroy and Michael Rosenbaum worked closely in the dcau
Awesome interview Michael with Kevin. Such a great interview and a lil reminder we all have moments of depression no matter how upbeat we may appear to be and be kind to each other.
🗡🗡🔥🙏. Rip Kevin Conroy- The greatest embodiment of Batman- He was 66.
Every one needs a friend like Kevin.
Now they’re all together in heaven. Rest In Peace Conroy. Greatest Batman to ever live.
It's so true. An 18 and 23 year old are almost like a different generation entirely.
And now we’ve lost both of them. RIP Kevin Conroy :(.
A legend talking about another legend is always enlightening. ❤
Batman and Robin :)
"The 'on' switch was always on...he couldn't turn it off." Probably what made him so great, and also what killed him in the end. 🤔
I seem to recall when they examined his brain, they were astounded he lived that long.. it took a brilliant and dynamic mind to fight that disorder off to the point he didn't even live to see the diagnosis.
So sad now i understand why he did what he did more then before. Robin gave me so much happy moments. RIP Robin...
Robin - according to his wife - was completely aware that he was losing control. Schneider stated in one interview that Robin kept telling her "I just want to reboot my brain". For a guy whose mind was going at proverbial warp speed for most of his life, it was most likely horrifying to get dementia, paranoia, depression, etc, then have bouts of clarity to realize that he was *LITERALLY* losing it. He fought hard to get sober, to be IN control, to have that slowly taken away from him piece by agonizing piece by something he had no chance of controlling would be soul-crushing. He basically checked out on his own free will before he became a prisoner inside his own mind and body. It was tragic that he died, but I understand why he did it - despite the horrible stigma of suicide on the survivors, it would have been harder for everyone close to him see him deteriorate over time. I became my grandmother's full time caregiver during her last years of life due to cancer, the effect on everybody in the immediate family as she deteriorated fast - especially the last month before she died - was extremely emotionally grueling. The only consolation was that she passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. RIP Robin, he's still missed after all these years.
I had a panic attack a few years back and it was a similar experience; at least thats what it reminds me off. You kind of ignore anxiety and depression and just assume thats normal; but then when you actually lose control and realize your mind is working against you involuntarily; its extremely scary. I quit drinking and went to therapy for a bout six months; and thankfully haven't had a relapse but I can see how being stuck in that and not having any hope of recovery could drive a person to suicide.
I was living in SF, when I went to renew my drivers license I looked across the department while in line and saw a man that looked really familiar. I gave him a great big smile, knowing it was Robin, did my business and couldn't find him so I left. I went to a game store a few blocks away and a few minutes after I got there he walked in, I shook his hand and told him how much I enjoyed his work and asked if he was going to play Riddler in the coming batman movie, he said "probably not", Jim Carrey played it. I was very sad to hear about his death. I grew up in SF during the mid 70's and was wondering if anyone knows if Robin performed in fishermans warf because I remember someone just like him performing there, I think it was at the Cannery.
If anything can break down a young man to his component parts, it’s his first big breakup.
Fortunately Robin would neeever have woman problems agai- aw man.
One of their roommates was Christopher Reeve.
I know Kevin Conroy and Christopher Reeve were at school together, but I always thought that their paths never really crossed. 🤔
Reeve and Conroy were friends but Conroy couldn't afford to split the rent Reeve was paying so he moved in with Williams instead. Williams and Reeve were also friends and, I believe, had lived together earlier.
Conroy talks slow but I don't mind it as I'm hanging on to hear every word. He is careful what he's saying out of respect for Robin Williams.
This was a great interview
Now I see why Robin wanted to be in a DC movie so bad - his rommates were Batman and Superman...
But no, seriously - rest in peace to all three of those guys. It's a crime against the arts we never got Robin Williams as a Batman or Superman villain.
Everyone just close your eyes and listen to that beautiful Iconic voice 😍😍. Kevin is Batman.
I'm glad Robin found help and championed his addictions (I know they don't talk about that in the video) Recovery and AA saved his life. And through recovery and AA he learned how to deal with this thing they are talking about in the video of being able to control yourself and be your true self. I hope he has found even more peace in the afterlife.
@eltavos99 Not it didn't. He went back to AA to save him from the Lewy Body Dementia and it surely didn't work.
@@satsubatsu347 I was talking about before he developed dementia.
I guess what you're saying is that you're glad we got a few more years with him. He could have died sooner. Apparently, it still ended with a great loss. But... I'm glad we had a few more years with him
0:10 Kevin conroy RIP 1955-2022 🪦 🥀 😭 💔 🙏 ❤️🔥 💐🕊🌹Batman 🥀🖤🦇🥀
😔😣😖😫🥺😢😭🤧💔💔🖤🦇💔💔
I remember reading about Kevin going to Juliard with Christopher Reeve, and Robin.
I miss Kevin Conroy.
This video is for the ages now. R.I.P Mr. Conroy.
Wow never knew Kevin Conroy lived with Robin Williams - fantastic story!
This reminds me of that episode of family guy where he turns everyone into Robin Williams and instantly regrets it. Because he's so over the top, all, the, time.
What’s the episode
The flash interviewing batman. He will be missed
Thank you Kevin... it was beautiful. You are a gentleman
A lex luthor talking to a batman about a robin that was once name dropped to play a riddler
Robin Williams almost played the joker when Jack nicholson was hesitant. As soon as Tim burton told Jack, he took the roll
THAT would've been DAMN interesting to see. Manic Robin as the Joker...
He was also the top pick for Joel Schumacher to be Riddler in Batman Forever but the producers couldn’t afford him and new kid on the block Jim Carrey got the gig
I also recall he was in for Rorschach at one point or was at least considered in a previous attempt at a film in the 80’a
@@ItsButterBean1020 probably the Terry Gilliam adaptation of Watchmen that couldn’t escape development in late 80’s early 90’s. Makes sense since Robin worked with Terry on both Baron Munchausen and The Fisher King
RIP Kevin Conroy.
One of my heroes talking about another of my heroes.
Batman & Robin
Williams was Convoy’s, Robin. Wild
This is really fascinating stuff.
This is even more interesting since Robin was going to be the live action Riddler at once point.
im not even gonna read the comments.. im just gonna give an educated guess that there are an enormous amount of comments with people who think they were the first to connect " batman and robin "
Brilliant as nothing else get!!!!
Awesome vid Mike! Thanks for sharing! :-)
Kinda breaking my heart...
Life is good.
Btw, u could have said it's ok. U r not the first to have a broken heart. After u survive this u will kno u can survive anything. Life is good, man. Theres no shame in really being in love or in losing it.
Guy was 17 years old, what was he gonna say? Im speaking from hindsight. He did great. Rest in Peace, rw.
"The worst thing in the world is not to end up alone. The worst thing in the world is to end up with ppl who make u feel like u r all alone." RW. So much stoic wisdom.thank u.
So sad but im glad Kevin was there holding Robin. That is so sweet .Men toobcan hold each other without being romantic or sexual, just like us women hold our gurlfrens
I’m seeing some parallels with Robin Williams and Peter Sellers.
they really have to do a live action short film with Conroy. He's not getting any younger.
Sadly, this comment did not age well. RIP, Kevin.
So this was Batman and Robin Williams
With all your Heart i don't heard he much years! You can
Due to the title getting cut off at first glance I thought he was talking about Loren Lester lol
File that under zany shit I didn’t know
Next time I am hearing Bruce tell Terry "None of the Robins ever complained" I will know who to also include: ruclips.net/video/0adBSNXrKy8/видео.html
Dudes look like William Defoe
Knowing what a big comic book guy Robin Williams was, I wonder if they ever talked about it after Conroy was cast as Batman.
And wish be just You giving back the gifts to their owners!
That meltdown description is eerily similar to how he acted before he died.
Lewy Body disease.
Found this looking for Kevin Conroy interviews.
So Batman and Robin lived together? Lol 🤣🤣🤣
It's a shame that he could never be himself. I don't know anything about his past but it sounds like a lot of rejection at an early age... Anybody know any truthful biographies about Robin?
Best voice actor
there several. Nolan North & Troy Baker are currently the top of the heap.
Kevin Conroy too. 2 Legendary Voice Actors in the same roof; how has the universe not collapsed on itself
Can't take the Irish Catholic out of the boy! Love his voice, and work! Brilliant. 🤩
Wow
Can you mention when this first aired, I think Aug 2020? Looks like it's a new clip but it's from that last interview with him.
Because it’s Kevin Conroy I thought it was him talking about batman living with Robin...
Robin Williams lived with superheroes! Lol!
Who else thinks that robin williams would have made a great joker?
When it stated Robin, not the Boy Wonder.
He was even better on cheers
"Were you eating together"... How does the question "were you doing copious amounts of blow together" not asked. This is the great and manic Robin Williams we are talking about
Coke was something Williams got into when he was in Hollywood. But nice try reworking a stale joke.
@@SmithMrCorona not true as per his bio, Robin's love of stimulants of all forms, uppers, reds, methamphetamine and cocaine was the catharsis of his manic creativity. And my comment isnt stale but factual with a twist of humor. Your response just makes you a weak and overly sensitivite limp wristed Mary
@THE GADFLY GANG Mimes working for tips don't make enough money to do copious amounts blow, uppers, reds, and methamphetamine, even in the 1970s. According to Williams' bio by Dave Itzkoff, it wasn't something he got heavily into until he moved to LA in 1976 and began doing stand up. He and Conroy were room mates circa 1973. Not that he didn't do it before 76, but it didn't become a lifestyle habit until he moved to LA and began making money.
@@thegadflygang5381 He has family and most decent folks won’t feel the need to rehash stuff like this out of respect for his daughter and other surviving friends and family. Being respectful isn’t weak and Robin already told everyone all about his bad habits anyway.
Hey it’s Lex! Have t seen him in awhile
I thought it was the boy wonder robin not rw.
Why is this not entitled 'Batman and Robin (Williams)'?
White lines, lots and lots of, white lines!
Just wish Talk to God with your Ángel and wish back to the owner their own gifts! You could just see your own photo
oH!
Kevin lived with Robin?! SQUEEE!
What if Robin was really being his authentic self. Does being authentic require you to lower your energy and pretend you're not who you are around other people if who you are is too much for others?
I love comic characters as much as the next guy, but this is a pretty sad story that has nothing to do with Batman. I wish people would respect that.
Unpopular opinion but Robin never turning it off was apparent and that's why I didn't care much for him.
He did coke alot so yeah probably why he couldnt turn it off lmao
Beautiful voice, wonderful person, but damnit if he aint ugly as sin.
Conroy has so weird wrinkles:D
Robin Williams drug fueled rambles were never funny
Just me, or.. Face disturbing
The host interrupts too often.
Damn, if both of them would’ve still been with us today they could’ve had their own show where they had to live with each other again and called it… wait for it… The Adventures of Batman and Robin(Williams)😁😬🥹. Lol I’m only joking man R.I.P. to two amazing legends who’re gone way too soon!!!
