    I don't know, maybe they should be required to also release the "assembly guide" as they called it. Maybe compensate for that by longer patent periods so it is still profitable for the first company.

    “Temperature, pH, nutrients, and so on...” are factors to the process, even initiation and success of it. I’m glad nutrients are mentioned.
    This means diet, sleep, stress, intestinal flora, gastric fluids and other elements of the nutrient intake pathways are important.

      I think they mean nutrients for the production system (bacteria/yeast), not the nutrients on a patient level... :)

      Patents and profits are the only reason the private sector invests billions of € on life saving research

      @Harmony Alexandria Indeed, but so basically it's a political matter then. Huge efforts in terms of raising awareness should be done (if you have a first-in-class drug for an orphan disease for instance), so you can convince people on a government level to help out particular patients by subsidizing a treatment (fully or partially), so basically it's tax payers who help those patients if the government gets convinced these people deserve help. Take Novartis' recent spinal muscular atrophy gene therapy: 2.1 million for a treatment. Only extremely rich couples who have a child with this disease can take that out of their own pockets, right?

    So biosimilars are the copy of biologics? I dont understant the difference... Theyre both made in the lab and both aim to copy the same thing....

    • @funkyscience
      @funkyscience 5 лет назад +3

      Yes you can say like that. Biologics basically means drug that has been created using protein or substance from animal or plant. And biosimilar is a kind of biologics. The difference is that biosimilar will show similar effect with that of its original biologics. Main reason why it is called similar because it is created from different types of cell line! Chemical drugs will have same formula but since it is created from different cell line its structure could be slightly different!
