  • The review is the first part of the video, the programming instructions begin at the 4:55 mark.
I think this is a GREAT radio for people who are new to the hobby and want to get started learning how to program a radio and get on the air.
I am new to the hobby and I bought this radio. I wanted to share my thoughts from the perspective of a new guy. I like it but I did find it quirky so I wanted to help others figure out how to program it. I think it is a good radio with a very good value and people shouldn't be scared away because they think its too difficult to use.
In the video I will tell you what I think about the radio and show you how to program a basic repeater into it, to help get people started and understanding how this radio works.
    Thanks for watching!
I am in NO WAY associated with TYT. I bought this radio myself and made this video only to help others.

I have the TYT UV8000e it is a good radio also. Comes with a lot of good accessories. As for the Baofeng, don't believe every thing you hear. There may have been problems with the older ones but I also have the BF-F8 HP, and its a good little radio, and I've had no problems with it. But the TYT, is better.

Is there a way to program a memory channel with split band transmit and receive. I bought this radio and want to try to use it for satellites and need to program one of the memory channels to receive on VHF but transmit on UHF, and vice versa.
I know I can do it in VFO mode just have the different frequencies set for a and b band, just didn’t know if it could be saved to memory for convenience.

Bands are different frequencies available to amateurs. Channels refers to the A and B channel available on the radio. You can have two different frequencies that you are listening to and switch back and forth between them. These radios would be pretty good for hiking. Probably a 10km range in the trees. More in the right conditions or on top of a hill. These radios do require you to have an amatuer license but those are easy to get.

I just bought this radio from a friend. People around here in Colorado use these to communicate while off-roading and that's what I intend to do.
However, I know absolutely nothing about radios and am trying to learn whatever I can. Most videos talk about stuff I don't even know what they're talking about. You showed us how to program for a "repeater". What's a repeater and why and when would I use it? Do you know of any other videos that might help get my understanding off the ground? Thanks in advance!

    • @greentruckandhamradio820
      @greentruckandhamradio820  4 года назад +1

A repeater is a local station that, when it receives a transmission, it retransmits for all within range to hear. This is opposed to simplex where you are just talking directly another individual or group with radios but no signals are being 'repeated '. Hope that helps, feel free to ask if you want to know more

@@SheepDog1513 You got it right, a repeater can connect people through radio who otherwise wouldn't be able to reach each other. I'm really not sure what a CC1 tone is, and as for the best repeater. The closer they are generally the better they will be because you're closer when transmitting and receiving. Just keep trying them all and if you cant reach one, it's probably just too far from you.

Don't believe all the negative stuff you hear about Bofeng. You can get one radio, a mic, programming cable, two batteries, whip antenna all for fifty bucks. It's a great price. It's almost as good as your TYT, but, whilst it doesn't have a cross band repeater, it does have a great spectrum of power from high to low.
If I had to choose one, it would be a TYT, but if you buy both, that's even better. 🌞🌛✨

Does anyone have a link to a video on the software that comes with it or setting up repeaters using the software? I always used Chirp until now and the terminology on the other software is different. I also want to set up cross band (I already enabled it) and CHIRP won't let me so i need to use the factory software.

    • @greentruckandhamradio820

If you have enabled cross band repeat on your radio already then the only thing you to do to use it is go to menu #11 on the radio called "turn" and make sure it is set to ON. If that is on then the radio will cross band repeat between the two channels.
