- A test of the superb TYT UV8000E, about the cheapest way to set up a functioning crossband UHF to VHF or visa versa repeater and finally a radio that outputs the power that is says on the box! Also check out the audio quality of this radio, I think its as good as my Yaesu FT60!!
This radio is available from many places, check the usual Ebay and the other Chinese market places for the latest prices.
You mentioned again about the charger skidding about on the desk top - Get yourself down to Poundland you will be able to buy a pack of little pads and much more in the packet. JOB DONE :)
I've had one of these for a bit over a year now. Very happy with it and in daily use, battery lasts much longer than Baofeng UV-5R. The only complaint I have is as you said, RF burn. I feel the tingle of it from the battery contacts on the back if I have my hand touching them when I'm transmitting on VHF, but not on UHF. So I just have to remember to hold it slightly differently, especially on long overs. Also found the power output a bit down from the advertised 10W, 6W on UHF and 7W on VHF, but not a deal breaker. As always, thanks for your great videos. 73.
Hey Robin thanks for the comments, yes power isnt exactly as it shows on the box but its a lot closer than a lot of the cheap Chinese sets are and the audio is really nice off it too, the repeater function is super handy, I just double checked the calibration on my power swr meter and its spot on, I tested my Yaesu radios and they are on the dial, what they say on the box they put exactly that out of the radio.
This radio had sat in the box unused and I had been meaning to review it but just didnt get around to it, this is right up there as one of my favourites now though, yes the RF burn caught me out but I have had them in the past when experimenting with lets just say other transmitters :-) thanks for the kind words and stay tuned, got some super weird little radios coming in for testing soon.
way too much power being jammed into your brain. for why? fail.

Must be a bigger battery than the UV5R. But RF burn? That doesn't sound good.
For those using CHIRP (under Linux, at least: I can't speak for the Windoze version) go to the settings page and check the box for Cross Band Allowed, and UNCHECK the box for Cross Band On. If you leave both boxes checked, you get an error when attempting to use Menu 11.
Hi, a test on wouxun kg-uv8d plus would be interesting. It's a fantastic radio. It has the transponder, the compander and also the scrambler function with 8 codes. I own 7 and importantly does not need the notch filter with external antennas on the roof !!!
Hi, oh thanks for the heads up 😀 I'll look in to it
I've read several comments from users of this radio about the RF burn problem. One reason I've been shying away from this radio. Take a look at the Retevis RT-23 which also has cross-band repeater, dual receive, dual PTT. cost less than the TYT. It's only 5W and comes with 1 antenna. I own one and am very happy with it.
Yes will look at that radio for sure
You're awesome the video was awesome thank you❤
The local repeater is 444.450 and I have the repeater cross band turned on . the other radio is 146.520 when. I use this function it keeps cur chunking the repeater a few times
Hi, nice video. Will it same band repeate?
No has to cross band 👍
Where can I buy one of these? All I can find online is the TYT UV-8000D.
Late series UV8000D are the same, as long as it say it has cross band repeat
i was able to use CHIRP to open up the tri band 220mhz also!!!! although it won't cross repeat from 144 to 220 mhz but it will cross band 220 to 440 mhz!!!!
Very informative, thanks 73
Your welcome sir 🙂
@@knoxieman sir, good day i need your opinion very well co'z my problem is my new antenna Cignus CP22V VHS approximately 2.5m length and we install it 15m high, cable wire used RG59, then i use my baofeng uv5r radio then upon we try the signal is very weak the receiver is 3km away and used stock uv5r, but then the stock to stock uv5r is much better signal, what would be the problem sir?
Blobs of hot glue can make decent "rubber feet" on things without them.
How is the front end? Is it as squishy as a Baofeng? I.E. will static break the squelch?
It's not bad to be honest it's certainly not the worst
Good video! 73 !
Thank you 😎
I know some TYT radios have voice prompts. Does this have that available?
Thanks.
Yes it does.
good stuff
In the. Program there's a setting called manual freq marked yes it no
I have no idea on this setting nothing again is mentioned
what is epilogue function?
So my (a vfo) is the repeater(uhf) the (vfo b) is set for 146.550
And my other radio is set for simplex 146.550 am I setup correctly
Now the tyt uv 8000e has to d wait. Settings the dw setting stays off I take it???? There are no instructions on use and setup
I do not understand why none of the videos i have seen on portables mentions the quality of audio into the speaker. this is an important feature and they speaker vibration if the volume is set way up. This radio i have no idea about the quality of the speaker audio. anyone knows????
Now setting number 18 (dw) is the monitor button wether this is on or off it still monitors what
I've also noticed the tyt does simplex and full duplex will not work on repeaters
Works on repeaters for me?
knoxieman please demonstrate the tyt on cross band repeater use with local repeater
Your videos are helpful thank you
@@Ibelieve218 That would be illegal without a NOV that Ofcom wouldnt issue
But Ofcom are talkng about changing the licence to allow repeat / remote Mic operation
Got one yesterday the charger doesn't work.

Hi what would be the difference between the UV 8000D AND THD UV8000E?
The E had a software update, but the D seems to be the one still in production
I have a D not found any problems
Im wondering can it be used as a repeater uhf to uhf?
No it's cross band only
I am not to clear on the cross band repeater??
e nice if separate video devoted to the cross band on the radio
thank you
Yes I can do that got a few videos in the pipe at the moment
TYT UV8000E can it be used like as walkie talkie station, if/when the function crossband repeater is activated?
Yes
Did you check the power with the battery fully charged?
Yes
@@knoxieman Sorry , should ask the first time, did you use a dummy antenna?
Very helpful video. I really love it and it did helped me.
But I was able to connect RT22 UHF to TH-UV8000D. I could clearly hear in the TH-UV8000D when I speak in the RT22 but cannot hear anything in the RT22 when I speak in the TH-UV8000D.
What might be the problem? I need your help again
Good radio by the look of it.
P.S. You were mobile NOT portable you should know the difference.
Yes I know when filming and commentating it's easy to get in a muddle, you should try it 😎
