I recently purchased one of these radios. Seems to be an "older" radio, but it does the job. Maybe you can help me with one issue. I cannot find the "CALL" button that, with PTT button, is supposed to send a 1750Hz tone in order to open repeaters. Neither the user manual nor the radio itself show where the "CALL" button is. Do you know? TYT support is non-existent, to put it politely. Does the radio produce an audible tone like the Baofeng UV5R, or is it silent? Thanks in advance! SV0SGS

I use Chirp to program my radios and I have never needed a call button. The tone is set in the programming. The UV8000 does everything a UV-5R does and al lot more. In Chirp set the "Tone Mode" to Tone or TSQL. Tone transmits a sub-audible tone of the selected frequency so it can open the squelch of radios set only to open the squelch if it detects that frequency. This tone is commonly called a CTCSS tone. The receive circuit of the radio still opens on ANY transmission. (In other words, Tone mode uses a CTCSS tone such as 88.5 to transmit and no tone to receive.) TSQL is Chirp’s way of specifying a CTCSS tone mode in BOTH transmit and receive.

@@StarShipAdventures Thank you for your reply. Still, CTCSS is not a 1750Hz tone. For a repeater I use I have to open it with a 1750Hz tone. So, my question remains unanswered. TYT support is unresponsive. The UV8000D appears to be a very good readio without any spurious emissions according to one YT test. My radio outputs 10w on VHF and 8.5w on UHF, very close to specs. Now, if I could only find out the "CALL" button I will be a happy camper. Again, thanks for your reply.

@@timbookedtwo2375 you don't need to do anything to send or activate the 1750 tone; it's automatic. Just program the repeater tones.

@@vitogriffin8902 Are you maybe confusing the 1750Hz tone with the CTCSS tones? The former is sent by some key plus PTT for a short burst. The latter can be programmed into the radio. I am not aware that a 1750Hz tone can be programmed. At least not on my Baofengs or Wouxuns.

@@timbookedtwo2375 no, I'm not confusing the repeater tone with the ctcss or any other tones. Most radios either have no tone or are set up for the 1750, so it's not in most menu sets, but it is in some. You only need to program the ctcss or dcs or whatever tones you see in the menu. There's actually 4 somewhat common repeater tones, 1000, 1450, 1750 and 2100; 1750 is the most common and the one pre-set on the uv8000. Many repeaters don't even require a repeater tone though. The ptt itself is also sometimes referred to as the "call" button. It's not 2 different buttons; the 1750hz tone is sent automatically when you key the radio.
