    This is one of the better tests I've seen. When you test in "real world conditions", people complain that there are too many variables. When you test in controlled conditions such as in this video, people complain that it's an inaccurate representation of real driving conditions; there's no helping these people. This video provides an enormous amount of information to those able to interpret the results, so I thank you for taking the time to make and edit the info, and providing the graphic representation of what is happening. 10/10. I don't think the video supports that either system is "superior", it simply shows how the two systems work similarly, and where there are differences.

I like your method of showing repeatable, objective tests without being misleading. I did some 4wd system testing on my channel in off-road conditions, but there were too many variables to make them truly useful, mostly just entertaining. I really like your system as it eliminates most external inconsistent factors. Keep up the great work!

    This test covers only some parts of what an awd system should do. In this test at any time you are having some wheels with 100% traction and the others with 0% traction. BMW having a more electrical AWD system can split better the torque between wheels. Audi for C7 has a mechanic AWD system so it’s not so precise in this test. But what happens when you have partial traction on all 4 wheels, like on rain or mud or snow? This is actually the most common situation.

    Not a fan of either, but clearly BMW has the better system. If you watch the posters other video comparing VW and Audi (both VAG products) it's clear that their system has trouble or is incapable of transferring power from one side of the axle to the other. X-Drive, at least in this model here can transfer power in such a manner, perhaps with the help of LSDs

    • @kilobak2297
      @kilobak2297 Год назад +1

      LSD is optional for g30 530ix and it's rarely picked by customers so honestly I doubt that this particular car is equipped with it. Also bear in mind that you can equip only rear wheels with LSD, there is no LSD option for front wheels in 530ix.
      In this video it looks more like traction control did the job to get BMW out of troubles.

  • @dimekoza

    A lot of people will say that XDrive is better than Quattro based on videos like this. The big difference is that XDrive uses a lot of electronics to control the system, while Quattro doesn't use any. And by electronics I don't mean ESP or something like that. XDrive uses electronics to shift the power between the wheels, the center diff. is electronically controlled, while Quattro is pure mechanical, and it needs more wheel spin to react/change and shift power because of the mechanics. Which is better?! Difficult to say, if the electronics fail in the XDrive?! Quattro's reputation isn't for nothing....

In my older truck, it used a clutch style LSD that worked proactively and I never had anything like that happen. It just worked, because nissan hadn't cheaped out yet by trying to use software to overcome crappier hardware.

Also Quattro vs X-drive where one with Winter tires pulling on snow with full traction vs other slipping arround and not going forward (Summer tires))
    All 4wheel drive systems are pretty much good enough and will get you there.. Some are just stopping the slipping wheel faster and transfering power faster to the needed wheels.
    To come to the point: Audi has finally recognized X-drive to be slightly better, so Audi applied the same techniek in 2015 on their Quattro.. Now at least we know Quattro & X-drive = SAME!

    Off topic!
    I have an audi a3 2010 quattro with haldex and i read on internet and lot of people tell me its only two wheel drive most of the time, and only when I lost grip on front wheels i will have all 4 wheels working. But i have a problem with the drive shaft that caused a vibration when back wheels working, and any time I accelerate even on highway on dry, I feel that vibration s-o I know its working not only when i drive on snow or mud and I lost grip. Maybe on constant speed its only two wheels drive but then dont need the extra consuption. What I don't understand about my car and maybe somebody know its if i go down hill and there its ice, when my front wheels start to slip because of the engine brake, back wheels will be also engaged în the engine brake? ...Fun thing, I like to drive pretty fast and I like to try the car, and if I go constant with 80km/h în a curve that I know vere well, the car understeer (its an audi :)), but if I accelerate I can go with over 90km/h, and the car its perfectly balanced, not understeer, not oversteer, its really grip like crazy

    • @4x4.tests.on.rollers
      @4x4.tests.on.rollers  2 года назад +1

      There are free apps which show the lock up level of haldex, that's the best way to check what is it actually doing. I don't know if it's working during engine brake. But it's working for sure during acceleration, that's why car is better balanced.

It's minor difference.Here is why quattro has upper hand ----> Quattro system is much more mechanical reliable on long term.Bmw is eletronic like quattro ultra computer controlled, Big thing is weight Xdrive is much heavy and complicate that is big minus Quattro is much lighter, and weight is important in car industry.

      @@4x4.tests.on.rollers I am aware. It is still bs. When you factor in an incline, the torque necessary to move a mass from rest increases proportional to factors such as friction, incline angle etc. I am sorry the angle of attack of the wheel to the roller just doesn't suffice. We all know icy conditions etc can come very close to control "rollers" being used. I just wonder if enough torque can be sent to just one wheel or two if the car is on an incline. Maybe too extreme of a situation for an urban environment? That's why when you least expect all the right observations and questions are asked after the fact. Its not uncommon when the average consumer out thinks an entire R&D department of a major car Manufacturer.

      @@elijahfrancis5847 As you see - flat inclined roller ramp is less difficult than these rollers. Furthermore - the car on a ramp was 1.6 while the car on rollers was 1.4T.

    why there must be so much spinning? 4x4 should works after 1 cycle spin, not to spining so long before reaction...?

      turboslav Nope, left/right torque distribution is based only on brakes, some it always takes some time to react.

    4 awd systems that have been a ridiculous test in my opinion are an unnecessary comparison that is tested on the roads with heavy snow and slippery flooring. Quatro is a system with nearly 40 years experience

      BREMEN 34 Awd system of Bmw is only 5 years younger than Quattro. And their first awd was much better than first Quattro. Both of them are much younger than some other awd systems.
