1866 Broadwood grand piano: The importance of materials!

The original "restoration" left 2 thick layers of green felt for the hammer rest. Too low IMO-surely the shanks should lie parallel to the felt surface... It appears someone later added some dense white felt...for reasons known only to them. It put the shanks parallel, but is BAD hammer-rest felt. I'll replace it with 2 layers of thin, fluffy Loden wool. Nice.
