Jokes aren't always harmless, and this one can be very disheartening for people who value creativity and originality but don't have enough self-confidence to perceive these comments as a joke (even though we know it is one). It doesn't really matter whether it's aimed at me or at someone i admire for those qualities, it still upsets me a lot, makes me feel like my effort would be discarded as something stupid and easily achievable.
I'm obviously not saying people should stop joking, just thought I'd try to explain why these jokes make me personally feel insecure. Can you see where I'm coming from?
It's a bit like working hard as an artist to be able to draw realistic images, only to hear jokes about the pictures being photoshopped or traced. Even when those are jokes, even when the artist knows they are jokes, it's still discouraging.
