Searched up NV5600, landed here. Wasnt until you mentioned Deer Park Diesel that i realized you arent too far from my location. Future customer here! Will call to discuss.
Cool vid. You actually show how the disassembly where all these wannabees never show the actual disassembly becuse they dint know what their doing. Thanks!
I am very impressed with your workmanship and experience in these. If I ever need my 6 speed rebuilt I will have to ship mine your way. Excellent video to see.
I do transmission work out of my garage on the side, and have had a few folks contact me about NV5600s. The only thing intimidating me is pressing off 5th and 6th gear. Don’t think my little 12 ton job would handle that. 😂
My NV5600 Has a hard time getting into 3rd and 5th without double clutching and rev matching. It has a new valair clutch and clutch master and slave set. I assume this is the synchros going out?
Very interesting video. I have an NV5600 I am swapping into my 98 12v truck. Previous owner of trans said it shifted well in all gears. I opened up the PTO cover to check it out. I found some ferrous metal chips that were about the size of large salt grains. Looking around from the open covers I can't see anything that looked chipped or damaged, it looks good in there. I am planning on running it, and checking back in on it to see if more metal appears. Am I crazy for doing this?
@@CurtisLandworksVT just saw you replied. How'd it go?? I just got everything removed from my 47re, getting ready to pull it tomorrow. Hopefully next weekend I'll have the 5600 installed.
@@redsite001 not too good, grinds badly into third and jumps out of third! I pulled it again and dropped it off to be rebuilt. Oh well, I'll get it working eventually.
@@CurtisLandworksVT sounds like the synchronizer was bad and the previous owner just forced it into gear and ground back the teeth on the gear wheel against slider ring and now they're not locking in how it's supposed to. I think that's why it keeps kicking out of gear. I'm sorry to hear that :( once you get it back it will be worth it though!
A 20 ton may or may not have the power to press the countershaft apart, but the typical 20 tons dont have a wide enough carriage for the gearset to drop into
I have two, NV5600. 2001 220k miles 2003 380k miles Both feel fine but what’s the tell tell sign the nv5600 is tired and needs a rebuild? Before it’s too late and it breaks something rare and expensive.
Unfortunately there isn’t a telltale sign if it’s in working order. You can follow one of my older videos regarding inspection and evaluation of your trans when it’s removed but that’s about it unfortunately.
Greetings: Re: the chront reverse repairs.... probably caused by idiots not knowing proper operation of vehicles and shift procedures. Just a thought. Thx 4 the share. Bsafe.
I think they’re both really stout transmissions, although I do hear fewer ZF6 transmissions having any issues, besides synchronizers going out. The issues the NV5600 do have could be related to the fact that most people with a Cummins are going to tow heavy more frequently.
@@longrangegear yes of course I just wasn’t sure because I seen on a forum someone said it would need to be out of the truck and on the bell housing to replace
Jeez, who ever would think the inside of a manual transmission was so intricate? Much respect!
Semper Fi Sgt, wish yall were east of the Mississippi.
When the time comes I will bring my 5600 to you. I live in Gifford right up the road from you. Nice video

How has it been? I just bought one and haven't checked inside yet. It shifts good.
