- Playing along to a live version of Toto's Africa. This version was from the Montreux Jazz festitval gig (with drum/percussion solo left in at the end!!) in 1991, Jeff's last gig with Toto. He is still very much missed.

One of my favorite Toto concerts. Jeff’s drum sound and playing on this concert are just incredible and you emulated his playing perfectly.
You played it great, you are a great drummer. 👍🙂
Thank you very much indeed! 😀
The Best Africa Drum Cover ! why? because :
1st - the same set that jeff uses to play africa live
2ns - The same techniques that he uses live
3rd - sound different but is original !
This Guy knows Jeff style , and knows how to play Africa in a great way!
THIS IS THE BEST TOTO - AFRICA DRUM COVER EVER!
Thanks very much for the kind comments, my friend! I'll definitely have a look at doing some REO Speedwagon and some Boston covers soon. Thanks :-D
Beautiful. I can tell how much care was given to maintain Jeff's intent.
This cover is very good, i think improvisation by drumming is not wrong, it makes up the fun ;)
I love it.
Timing, tuning of snare, accents - fvcken wicked!!
Good job!
Dude awsome freakin job timeing was great
Awesome
pattern of "Mushanga" at the end . Thats great!!:)

Good job man !
muito bom my boy, very good
Hey Rob, great cover! was curious what kit are you playing (and what’s the sizes)? and what’s your cymbal setup? As I’m a Massive TOTO fan and also in the process of creating a TOTO tribute so want to get the right gear.
Congrats from a fellow TOTO fan and drummer.
Jonathan
Hey Jonathan, thanks so much for the nice message man! This was so long ago! This is an old kit of mine. It was a Pearl Export, (I’ve upgraded to a Pearl Masterworks now which looks very similar to a kit Jeff used to use around 1990). This Export kit had an 8”, 10”, 12” rack toms, 14” and 16” floor toms, a 20” bass drum and a Pearl Masters Maple 14x6.5” snare. Cymbals were all Paiste 2002s if I remember from left to right it was: 19” crash, 16” crash, 14” sound edge hi hats, 20” ride, 20” crash and a 20” China type. Setup is still the same these days on the Masterworks except different drum sizes and the addition of Paiste Formula 602s, Signature and Modern Essentials! Thanks again for the comment man, was nice to watch this again, haven’t watched it in a long time!
been checkin your vides great groove man, you have some nice jeff thing going on there, could you upload the DA PINGA videos again? theyre awesome man, i fuckin love them even tho its bad performance
nice one dude :)
Well he enjoyed it as well!
Thanks for this, but I don't understand what you mean - seeing as this exactly the way Jeff Porcaro used to play it live!
No :-P Wish I had though. It was a great race!
I think he mean how Simon Phillps play it. :)
This is not the style of Simon Phillips. It's the style like Jeff Pocaro
This is a typical Porcaro groove. Simon is incredible drummer, but Jeff invented this. Simone has more tecnique, but Jeff was more creative and original! Simon is wonderful drummer, but Jeff was an artist. This is the difference....
for me simon philips' version is better than porcaro version!
not a good version of africa u missed the great rolls man, go back listen more
