@whitesand8 Displacement may give them more torque, however V-Twin engines generally deliver torque much lower in the rpm range than 4 cylinders. Makes the torque much more accessible when coming out of corners.
@sonicnofadz Those displacement handicaps are because a V-twin doesn't develop as much power for a given displacement as an I4. That displacement advantage is specifically to encourage manufacturers to use v-twins. Otherwise, everyone would go with I4. They aren't specifically for Ducati, either. Honda was allowed the same displacement advantage with the RC51.
I love Japan's bikes too, and own two GSX-R 1000s with a boatload of mods. But my Aprilia Tuono makes me smile every time I ride it. Don't judge what you don't understand.
I own a Ducati 1198s and because i've had the time to actually get properly used to the bike I can say its truely awsome. Once you get used to the grunt, the Ducati is very very controllable. The steering is different from other bikes but learn to understand it and it really does a wonderful job. carlos checka is demostrating how good the bike is. Lets not forget adjustments that can be made. The duke needs to be riding beyond what you think is fast to be able to apriciate it properly.
@DucRacerX To fully apriciate it yes, on the street though its still a joy to ride, really easy to ride but dont like going too slow or it gets hot. The suspention is great as long as it not too bumpy but it can be adjusted.
i am a ducati rider, but all 3 good looking. you guys are great. very well speaking, great riders and you know what are you talking abt. very nice review. good job. *****
@BikeMeAustin That's why they are the number one dealer friend! Really, I don't want you to think I'm ragging on Aprillia. It was an outsourced part that was faulty anyway. The RSV4 is a sick bike for sure! I'll stick with my Duc though. Keep it rubber side down bro!
@toxiblu it has the adjustable engine position, wheels that are half the weight ($2600 upgrade - conservative estimate), Ohlins adjustable rear shock ($1500-ish), and a lot of carbon fibre... to name a few more things.. If you add up all that the Factory version has, you'd be saving money to buy the Factory compared to buying a "R" version and adding all of it after the fact.
you would have thoght that the big twins would have slipper clutches, from my experience big twins are easy to lock up as it is let alone hooning around a race track which these are designed for specificaly
@BikeMeAustin They are replacing every engine that is in a dealership right now. "and were apparently responsible for not only sidelining an RSV4 track event with the press, but also requiring almost all the RSV4s sold to-date to be brought in for servicing via this recall". Sorry. Almost all.
I love the RSV4. Another big thing the Aprilia has on top of the Duc is reliability and reduced cost to maintain. Anyone who owns a Duc knows they break down alot and cost an arm and a leg to fix.
@badman2504 It is very light but it turns differently to the others. I would say yes it does need extra to turn it but the suspention is all adjustable so you can tweak it to get it to turn better if you wish. its very different from other bikes. Test ride one is the only way to say because everyone rides differently. Its definately a great piece of kit. I love my one, It definately needs to b e ridden hard to understand it I haven't fiddled with my settings but maybe one day ill give it a try.
@halfie25 Yeah I live in Austin but AF1 is actually in New Braunfels, about 40 minutes south of Austin. Odd how they have become the #1 dealer and are in such a small town. They have a great shop, if you're ever near the area you should really stop by, great people and a really cool shop. Take care, stay safe!
I got an 1198s and its awsome, I think it takes more than 5 minutes to get to understand your bike, there is so many settings to adjust aswell. My bike has to be ridden differently to 4 cylinder bikes. I think its just a case of the rider suiting the bike and understanding it well to how it performs. Just look at the latest news with troy baliss coming back to a superbike and breaking the lap record. The rider at 1 with the bike.
They need to clarify "Vtwin torque"...They make it sound as if they have more torque because they're V Twins...They have more torque because of the extra displacement...nearly 200 more for the Ducati an 149cc extra for the KTM....
whitesands: cause v twins do have more torque (even if they're same engine size, which the displacement is for the cylinder count) just like single cylinder dirt bikes have lots of torque for their engine size
The KTM is a raw bike, no rider aids. You fuck up, you know about it. I have tested all three and the most challenging (read rewarding) bike to ride was the KTM. The 1198 S, RSV4 APRC Factory and especially the BMW S100RR were virtually like plug and play video games. I had the throttle pinned through a sweeper at one stage on the BMW yet the computer was the one deciding how much power I needed. Although the KTM is the savage in the comparison, it is a true riders machine. Raw bikes are better!
Nice review guys except for the vague ending, I understand that you liked the RSV4 better but it wasn't overwhelming clear that the KTM wasn't above the Duck either. Also to answer XX's quriey about I4s v. V Twins torque. V Twins develop torque from low RPM which provides more twist down low, whereas I4s must spin into theirs at higher RPM. And normally have higher HP per cc.
@WHIPxDATxZxBOI Sir, the cost differential alone puts those two cars in a class of it's own. Cost differential for a motorcycle is not that far offset. Besides a very small percentage of people with use ANY sport bike to it's potential. Any liter bike you can buy can do 180+mph. Cars, not so much. Thats what makes the Lambo, Porsche and Ferrari exotic. What makes the bikes "exotic" to you?
@halfie25 Please do check them out, you'll really enjoy the dealership; just a bunch of guys that love bikes. And if you're ever up this way give me a shout!!
@TychoCelchu We call it dookie or "takin' a dook" for short, that should clarify it. Just kidding, I'm trying to start a bit of a fire. I've heard it called Duke over here too.
I currently own six bikes. Five of them are Japanese. But I don't draw the conclusion that they're better. My Tuono is awesome, and I don't know of a Japanese equivalent. These bikes are like that. There are no Japanese equivalents. The RC-51 is gone and out of date by comparison (still love them, though). By the by... check my videos for a video of my 210hp GSX-R 1000 on track. Not up to speed of a summer day, but still not a bad video.
@halfie25 Well they actually earned that rep, excellent dealer with fantastic service. They are AF1. Anyway, I too have a Duc, Monster 696 and it's a great bike too. Well actually I bought it for my wife but I still get to ride it often so I'm lucky, best of both worlds. Have a great day and you too keep the rubber side down, it's much less painful that way! ;)
Great Bike, Although they sounds Like Hairdryer.... they're worth to get the title "Speed" I really want them, so far i still keep my Ducati Monster 400 Clean... hmmm...
man i dont care if one is a tad sexier or one is a tad faster in low rpm... when one sounds like shit, and one sounds fken amazing, ill take the rsv4 thank you very much
@HC130P8419 Have you even seen the 2 of them? The Aprilia looks awesome....the Honda looks like a parrot that crashed into a window with 1 eye shut! Sorry buddy but they're nothing alike
I have the KTM. Different at first, but incredible in the long run. Let me tell you it can keep up with the best of them, with the sharpest chassis as well. Turn in is incredibly sweet, as with flickability. Braking is insane, i love hitting the binders. The bonus is that only 50, 2010's sent to north america. I got one. Can you say that about the Duck? how many RSV4s out there? more than 50? probably. Everyone buys a duc now thinking theyre cool. cause of that theyre not
PowderBrad12, did it ever occur to you that when need a new cam, valves, oil pump, you might not be able to get em? Exclusivity has its price. KTM has ceased production of this line, and production of spare parts has ended as well.
I had an 08 R1 and raced a KTM once. After about 5 minutes of riding at the limit I couldn't keep up with the razor handling in the sharp and tight bends, and the torque was insane. He kept pulling away. I kept worrying about sliding the rear tire and high siding while he kept pulling away effortlessly. The tractable power delivery on the KTM was very impressive.
@ShamanWS6 ---- mmmm.... i suggests you read again my comment. I think you are the one who does not know hot to understand. hahahahahahaha! (Chill! peace!)
this is more of an exotic literbike shootout
@restek36 a literbike refers to any motorcycle that has the displacement in approximation of 1000cc (or 1 liter)
All cool rides, i'd like to try out the priller.
@jw11432 Yet the duc has a 1200cc engine...while the 'hypersport' hayabusa is a 1300...so how is the duc still a litre-bike?
i am a ducati rider, but all 3 good looking. you guys are great. very well speaking, great riders and you know what are you talking abt. very nice review. good job. *****
@ShamanWS6 --- OK I WILL
whats the difference between the rsv4 and rsv4 factory
@toxicblu u mean it cost 5 k more to get a adjustable engine one?
@HC130P8419 i guess litre-bike refers to 1000cc and above. i didnt come up with the terminology :P
@halfie25 Aprilia did not "recall all of their engines", please do some research before spreading untrue rumours..
2011 RSV4 review with traction control review please!!!!
can u explain what is literbike meant?
All you hear in the background are the inline bikes.
So which would be thebetter street bike?
@TychoCelchu
Ya...they didn't quite get that!

Interesting, I am considering these 3 exact models as my next bike providing I can find a good 2nd hand example of either.
@BikeMeAustin They are replacing every engine that is in a dealership right now. "and were apparently responsible for not only sidelining an RSV4 track event with the press, but also requiring almost all the RSV4s sold to-date to be brought in for servicing via this recall". Sorry. Almost all.
@mcturk17 $5000 and the factory has an adjustable engine position, you can change the rider triangle more easily, but honestly 5K for that?
I love the RSV4. Another big thing the Aprilia has on top of the Duc is reliability and reduced cost to maintain. Anyone who owns a Duc knows they break down alot and cost an arm and a leg to fix.
@badman2504 It is very light but it turns differently to the others. 5 stars! But none of those bikes catch my interest. JAPANESE BIKES RULE and DOMINATE the whole INDUSTRY!
No 🤣🤣🤣
@halfie25 Yeah I live in Austin but AF1 is actually in New Braunfels, about 40 minutes south of Austin. Odd how they have become the #1 dealer and are in such a small town. @BikeMeAustin We're practically neighbors... LOL. I live in the outskirts of San Antonio near Boerne. I'll definetly check out the dealership.
@halfie25 Yep you're right, Aprilia has recalled "ALL of their engines" and your dealer knows all. Sweet.
rsv4 more midrange then inline 4 ??? not really ...compared it with cbr or gixxer n see how much cbr n gixxer beat ape in midrange sector....
@ratko89 He said it "felt like a i4."
To bad Aprillia recalled all of their engines... They are really going to take a hit for that!
The 1198S is a sledge hammer; the RSV4 Factory is a Samurai sword. I'll take the sharp edge, thanks very much ;-)
They need to clarify "Vtwin torque"...They make it sound as if they have more torque because they're V Twins...They have more torque because of the extra displacement...nearly 200 more for the Ducati an 149cc extra for the KTM....

Yeah, tell that to the MotoGP riders. All of these bikes ARE RAW.
I love my RSV4,, I rode my buddys 1098 Duc and I find its very uncomfortable for me,, though they are both great bikes .
@toxicblu its marketing... no one else has it, they could've even charge 8k and people would buy it
@halfie25 Ok, well the #1 dealer for the U.S. is here and they say otherwise. I really don't care either way, my Aprilia has been flawless so far.
checa's about to take a "sledge" once again to the competition.
The RSV front end looks identical to a CBR..
@WHIPxDATxZxBOI Sir, the cost differential alone puts those two cars in a class of it's own. Cost differential for a motorcycle is not that far offset. Aprilia rsv4 the best
@halfie25 Please do check them out, you'll really enjoy the dealership; just a bunch of guys that love bikes. And if you're ever up this way give me a shout!!
the three road queens
@TychoCelchu We call it dookie or "takin' a dook" for short, that should clarify it. Just kidding, I'm trying to start a bit of a fire. I've heard it called Duke over here too.
Man that ktm is sweet looking
So u got a winner just for the slippery cluth????WTF
@BikeMeAustin Oh cool, I guess just all three at my dealer, and the owner has no idea what he's tlaking about. Sweet!
your choice!!!
@rama6maiden S1000RR
I currently own six bikes. Five of them are Japanese. But I don't draw the conclusion that they're better. My Tuono is awesome, and I don't know of a Japanese equivalent.

nice!!!
has got amazing desing!!!!
998.9cc!!!!
the only "better" bike than the RSV4 Factory i know would be the GSXR 1000 K5 ...
RSV4 wins
$21,000 for a bike.... thats crazy.. bikes r to vulnerable to damage for me to spend $21,000
like the ktm most
i would take rsv but if you just want a super sport bike go for a r1 or a zx10r!!
Have a great day and you too keep the rubber side down, it's much less painful that way! ;)
Ktm ftw !
Wish KTM hurry up and get their asses in WB already?!
Great Bike, Although they sounds Like Hairdryer.... they're worth to get the title "Speed" I really want them, so far i still keep my Ducati Monster 400 Clean... hmmm...
All these bikes are ridiculous over kill for riding around.
@rama6maiden yup and i already made it ;) i can pick it up april 5th, its already payed for.
man i dont care if one is a tad sexier or one is a tad faster in low rpm... when one sounds like shit, and one sounds fken amazing, ill take the rsv4 thank you very much
@HC130P8419 Have you even seen the 2 of them?

aprilia is best
999 sbk
1198s> the rest
@sonicnofadz
Spoken like a 13 year old that has no idea of the technical aspects of the sport.
i think aprillia dominates ducati
ktm!
RSV4 = sex on wheels!
1080p my ass :/ looks like shit, worse than REAL 720p..
I DONT LIKE ANY OF THESE BIKES.
I keed XD
KTM all the way, and has got better, but without all the aids, brilliant bike
The KTM looks like shit :D
