I just want to say whomever made the call to have Don on with all these cars from his Museum: THANK YOU. The dude is so awesome, smart, refined and fun. It was absolutely my fave part of the MSNBC show and I'm so glad it's now on the youtube show. Please keep them coming!
Agreed. Jay seems to be doing fine in life, but every JLG episode I see with Donald Osborne in it gets a "like" from me. Wonderful back-and-forth between these two.
These are SOOO Good! They compliment each other so very well with Jay cutting up and Donald as the Straight Man! As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
This might be my first time commenting on the show. I’m a subscriber and avid watcher of each and every episode. I’ve even watched many of them multiple times. As a “car guy”, I often will search Jay Lenos Garage for (and find!) information on cars that I’m interested in or just plain curious about. The show is a bright spot in my automotive entertainment menu. Having said that, I am compelled to go even further and comment on what great entertainment and information comes from the shows involving Donald Osborne. I enjoy the act of “friendly foils” the two make. Each bringing out the best in the other. Jay, the consummate collector/entertainer/musuem. Donald, a crisp informative, classy guy who can parry wonderfully with Jay. Keep it up fellas!
Ya, I'm of the same mind on the dislike of Jim Crackery and the functional non-opulent principles of Gordon Murray's designs. Not a fan of the HP spec race and top speed as if they were trophy cars.
Love what Jay said - You are only original once. I think he is bang on about originality, and the practicality of putting your money into features that matter. I love Singer cars but if someone said you could take any two of the three, it would take that 356C and the Carrera GT. Jay is right about driving a car that is true to its originality, there is something special about it.
Mr.Rallye Walter Röhrl has also such a 356 Carrera in his Garage, as Chief Test driver from Porsche for prototype testing, he considers the Carrera GT the best Car ever engineered for the road.
Jay has such a vast collection of vehicles, for him to say this is one of my favorite cars is really saying something about that vehicle. I’d like to know what jays top 5 favorite vehicles are and why. Wouldn’t that be an interesting show🥰
The Singer is like a Mansion. Very expensive but if you buy one secondhand you're always buying someone else's vision of what an expensive home should be.
I love this series. Incredible vehicles, incredible insights. As a huge Porsche fan, this is my favourite one yet. Throw in a Dakar and that wpuld be my dream 4-car garage
@@InDubioProDuriore I don't claim I understand your American law. But it seems that Donald put a value on a property, and the US said it was overvalued. Jay is absolutely right about pushing the engine on the older 356, 912 and 911. Porsche classics recently rebuilt the engine and transmission on my classic 911. I kept going back for adjustments to idle, etc. when the mechanic asked me to take him for a drive. He said I want to see how you drive your car. Well let’s just say I was babying the car and he admonished me for not revving the engine and driving it like it was meant to be driven. I now drive the car more spirited and keep the revs up, the car absolutely seems to love it and the engine just hums along.

“Growing up in New England on a diet of Silas Marner and Ethan Frome: life is tough and then you die; I need a reason for everything.” - Jay Leno As one New Englander to another Jay, you nailed it. A quotation for the ages.
I agree with Jay that the original cars will be more desirable and more expensive because they are as they were designed in the day and that makes them unique examples that will be imitated but never of original pedigree
A favorite episode of a favorite channel of mine. Absolutely love the cars, hosts and their banter. So insightful & entertaining! I side with Jay on his view of accoutrements vs. performance, but Donalds’s retort that a Singer might be reimagined in denim had me ROTFL 😂. Porsche GT is certainly my ‘it’ car. Keep up the great work, Donald & Jay!!
I agree with Jay Leno's thinking that people go back to the original specs of any vehicle, you can always modify for personal preference but the pristine quality of an untouched classic automobile has more depth.
More of THIS, please ! Love this format, and the pairing of Jay and Donald is very entertaining, whilst also interesting and informative. Jay has finally met his match, Donald brings his wealth of knowledge, Jay is once again confounded ! flummoxed !oh the humanity ! lol, these guys should take this act on the road....see what I did there....
I remember when our dealer received the first Carrera GT. They were sold at retail and for a while they actually went down in value. They are truly special cars but my first choice would be the Singer for having better road manners and a car less likely to want to kill you. Also every car is bespoke and unique.
Had the pleasure of sitting in a Carrera GT several years ago. Closest I have ever been to understanding what they are about. I just wish it was while it was in motion! Ahh well, old men like me can still dream.
I'll take the The GT for its engine The Carrera 2 for its vintage purism The Singer for its looks Now excuse me, I'll have to buy some lottery tickets 😅
Thank you gentleman. Great discussion and amazing autos. Very enjoyable format. Would love to drive them all especially the Carrera. Now to re-watch the Jay’s specific reviews on each. Thank you for sharing your time and wisdom.
Don't forget that the Carrera GT is the car Paul Walker died in. There's footage of Jay spinning a black one at high speed on a race track. The Singer is by far the best one here. I'm not really a big 911 fan, but I'll readily admit that it is a timeless classic. I have a uncle in Santa Barbra, California who has a 70's 911 SC targa that I got to ride in as a teen. It's a great memory I'll never forget. Thank you.
no one's forgotten, but the tires were eight years old and past their expiration date (rubber hardens over time) and it was their first drive in the car in an area not designed for high-speed travel. You have to know the cars limits, you don't perform a high speed run the first day you get a car......I have a 911, and have tracked it, but what I can do on the track should not be done in a warehouse setting like Paul and his buddy did. Sorry for the accident but it was user error, as Jay stated.
We are sorry for Paul's loss but the car was way above the speed limit taking a fast turn with old tires. Also Porsche now have new Michelin tires for the CGT and all we gotta do is drive responsibly and cherish these exotic cars.
As a fellow from the Boston area, and from the same graduating year as Jay, the New England school curriculum including study of "Silas Marner" and Ethan Frome novels truly resonates with me.
Man, I remember when you could buy an 80s 911 for $10k *or less*. You'd find 'em in Auto Trader for not much money but in good enough condition. I missed the window and my first, an '82 911 SC and it was just under $20k. The previous owner had swapped on the large wing and it was very sexy.
Have to agree with Jay on this, love the singers but i would prefer an original one with a few choice bolt on mods. The Carrera GT looks as amazing as ever.
This is why I told my wife. It's never bad to buy a Porsche. Even the ones that don't seem specifical will likely at least break you even at some point in the future
To me, the Singer and Carrera GT are other worldly cars. At least for pricing, either originally or now. I'll never get a 356 being that valuable. Sure, there were fewer of them and they were largely hand made but I suppose the fact that I can remember being able to buy one on the spot for $300, easily and replace the engine with a VW bug engine if something went wrong sort of sticks in my mind. Great info on all the cars and showing us is greatly appreciated.
It's a nice collection of Porsche models. I was introduced to 356 and 911 in Need For Speed Porsche 2000 video game while the Carerra GT in Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2002 and Most Wanted 2005 video game.
I get a kick out of the banter between these two because they both have a great deal of in-depth knowledge on the subjects they are talking about. Although I disagree with Jay's downplaying the desirability/value of Singer's reimagined Porsches (and I'd never be able to afford one) I do think they honor Porsche in their reimagining of the 911 and I think MOST of what they do is just awesome. I do agree that leather in the engine bay is gilding the lily....
I agree with Jay and heck I'd pick the Carrera GT over a DLS Singer Turbo (Over $3mUSD value) as well hands down. Its up there with Pagani Zonda, McLaren F1 etc...That howling V10 engine is just wow😍
Reminds me of my days on the race track (PIR) in the early 2000's. I had an S2000, my friend had a mid 80 911. I would take him on the corners, he would take me on the straits and we basically fought tooth and nail against each other the entire time slot.
Thank you, Leno, for addressing the fact that Paul Walker and his “professional” driver were being irresponsible. People constantly defend Paul because of how iconic he was, but the fact is, they were both irresponsible and found out the hard way. Plain and simple.
