    Hi!
    It's so satisfying to see that how you bought the bike, explain the features and rode back home👍
    I am from Sri Lanka and before 20-25 we also had Honda dealership in my country and I can remember how my father bought Honda CD125 like you did in this video. Unfortunately now we don't have such 'luxury' as the country's economy drops day after another. People can't even afford a used Japanese motorcycle unfortunately. Instead we have poorly made Indian (Made in India) motorcycles. Because of their bad design and outrageous traffic practices in my country thousands of poor riders die in road traffic accidents. 😔
    Your road users are well disciplined and it's also so satisfying to see how you drive. You guys are truly blessed people in this world 🙏 Wish you all the best!

    • @Wog68
      @Wog68 3 года назад +7

      I agree with you about Indian motorcycles and mopeds except royal enfield line of models and Himalayan (only this model of OEM) that would go almost anywhere in any weather conditions. Bad behavior of People is a reality in India but how does that impact Shri Lanka’s roads except that people in your country also behave like that? Your country is beautiful, I wish that would visit some day.

    I like that the motorcycle manufacturers are going back to simple retro designs. Motorcycles in the last 20 years have got too big too complicated chunky and UGLY

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 года назад +28

      Agreed! I have always liked the simpler, traditional aesthetic from the '60s to late '70s. Show off the machine and not the plastic cladding. Modern fueling and electronics are great, but the looks have gotten too "Transformer-ish" in my opinion. The other unfortunate side-effect of progress has been the ever-increasing seat heights and bike weights... many machines are just too damn tall or heavy for a lot of people to ride comfortably. Modern advancements in metallurgy, CAD/CAM design, and FEA should result in LIGHTER bikes, not heavier ones. Cheers! 👍 --QM

      You have more restraint than I do... I would be out thrashing that CT110 at every opportunity! I had the CT90 and CT110 back in the 80's and had a blast riding them. You should search around to all of the Honda dealerships (particularly the Powerhouse dealers) to see how deep is their waiting list. Most of the dealers in Texas are advising that the next deliveries will be sometime in April, and many of those have deep waiting lists already. Good luck with your shopping and I hope that you can get out to explore some trails soon! Cheers! 👍 --QM

    In Australia everyone recognises a CT as a "Postie Bike" because for decades the Australian Post Office has used the Honda CT to deliver mail. Until the 125 appeared recently, they were never available new to the public. The only way you could buy one was at auction when the Post Office was done with it, (usuallly with around 20-30 thousand klms on the ODO). Now you can choose from a CT125 or a Super Cub C125. Mail contractors can still buy the CT110 but Joe Public cannot. Strange but true! I was torn between the two but could only justify purchasing one so I opted for the Super Cub and after watching your excellent videos, I am happy with my choice. Thanks for the work you put into this.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for the feedback, Max! The Super Cub is definitely the better road bike between the two siblings. I just returned from a 300-mile (480 km) road trip on the CT125, and I can say that it's really out of its element on the highways. My top speeds hovered around 50 MPH (80 km/h) and frequently dropped below 45-ish MPH with slight hills or headwinds. The Super Cubs riding along with me could easily maintain 5-10 MPH higher speeds. The CT125 was designed for trails and gravel roads, so that's where it excels over the Super Cub. Cheers! 👍 --QM

Honda gives you everything coverage not counting tires and battery and such for a year, then you can add another 4. KTM gives you like a month on drivetrain and engine. Tells me everything I need to know about how much confidence each company has in their product.

    My only real complaint about this bike is the lack of top speed. If I bought one I'd change the front sprocket to get a little more top speed. Honda really should make a 200cc 5-speed version that tops out at around 65-70mph while still pumping out the low speed torque....now that would awesome!

    It's so cool to pick up a new bike and it's funny as you ride it for the first time. You want to add this, change that and do other mods. However, by the time you get home you think...that wasn't a bad ride at all and you begin to reassess your thinking. I've done that countless times since owning bikes from age 19 to today at 74. The only bike I had no thoughts on changing or adding was my 1998 Honda Superhawk I bought in Maui, HI. That bike impressed the hell out me right off the showroom floor and the ride home. It took every ounce of strength to keep from throttling it almost immediately. Once broken in I did get it up to 136mph but became concerned as it was around midnight. Good thing, too, as a huge land tortoise was crossing the road a mile further on Haleakala Highway. When I bought my Harley Fatboy, I changed so many things and added chrome this and that, it looked more like a custom made chopper. I'm getting prepared to tour the lower 48, Canada and Alaska in my van and wanted a trail bike; too old now to be mountain biking.

      Agreed! I've seen people rebuild these motors on the side of the road with basic hand tools... they are really that simple to maintain. Replacement cylinders, pistons, rings and other top-end parts are dirt-cheap because this engine design has been around for 60+ years, and it has been copied and cloned by just about every Asian manufacturer since the 1960's. 80 mile ride home on a new bike, soooo awesome. Thanks for sharing it with us. Once you get the heal/toe shifter where you like it could you include you shifting it in one of your videos? We will all most likely be following your lead on that immediate adjustment 👍

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 года назад +2

      Thanks again for the feedback! The adjustment is very quick and easy... you can watch my video where I did the same adjustment on the Super Cub: ruclips.net/video/hi24CwhOGLU/видео.html . I plan to adjust the CT125's shifter exactly the same way... rotate one notch/spline counter-clockwise (toe down, heel up). That does two things: (1) it raises the heel to a position that is easier to fully depress it for a gear change, and (2) it prevents you from accidentally resting your heel on either the heel or toe portion, which disengages the clutch. That was my biggest complaint when I first started riding my SC, and many other owners have realized the same issue. Even CycleWorld's reviewers mentioned that problem in their recent video: ruclips.net/video/xtDejO2ImYk/видео.html . After a 2-minute adjustment, that problem is gone! 😉👍 --QM

    Wow this really takes me back! I used to be a postie and we used these bikes to deliver mail, until they changed them to the Supercubs. But it makes sense, as postie if you do a lot of suburban low speed riding and the lack of clutch lever made it easier to stop and go and deliver mail. I think they were originally used for agricultural/off-road so they used to have side stands on both sides which was also really handy; not sure if these new models have side stands on both sides. And those models back then didn't have an electric start (so kickstart only). I miss these bikes! Wish I could ride one again.

I owned the CT90 and CT110 back in the 80's, and I really enjoyed the simplicity and durability of those machines... lots of adventures and fond memories. The new bike seems to be better in all aspects (e.g. fuel-injection, LED lighting, better suspension, better brakes, etc), but it's missing the dual-range transmission. I addressed the heel-toe shifter position problem in my follow-up comparison video with the CT125 and Super Cub: ruclips.net/video/VqOb_8wZhtc/видео.html . The adjustment is very easy on the Super Cub, but takes a little more effort on the CT125 because the footpeg supports are too close to remove the shift lever easily.
      These bikes can still be toe-shifted for up/down, but the heel wasn't usable for me until I rotated the shift lever one spline counterclockwise. The factory position put the toe too high and the heel too low, so I was always resting on the lever and causing the clutch to slip. I wasn't able to bend my ankle at an acute enough angle to actuate a shift with the heel. Cheers! 👍 --QM

      @@QuasiMotard can any sprocket be changed ? rear wheel or trans final drive ?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 года назад +1

      @@arnoldzyphill3167 Yes... generally speaking, any drive (front) or driven (rear) sprocket can be changed as long as you have enough clearance for the new sprocket diameter. On the Super Cub, I had to order a new front chain guard (also called a "case saver") because the 15T front sprocket pushed the chain just a bit close to the inner diameter of the original guard. If you change to a smaller diameter sprocket on either end, then the original chain will usually still work fine... just pull the rear wheel back to take up the new chain slack. However, if you go larger on either end, then you are increasing the loop diameter and the original chain might not be long enough.
      As for transmission and/or final drive ratios, that's a bigger challenge. You need to remove the motor from the bike and disassemble the bottom end of the motor (transmission housing) enough to remove the gear sets. You can replace one or more cogs on the gear shafts to alter the ratios, but it's a LOT of work for trial-and-error testing... you need to KNOW that the new gears will work and not have interference or reliability issues. Changing the engine's primary drive reduction gears (crankshaft to clutch/transmission input) is also possible, but that usually involves replacing the primary input shaft, the clutch basket ring gear, or other related parts.
      Final drive parts on shaft-drive bikes and scooters can be changed by removing the rear-drive assembly and completely dismantling it. The swap usually requires both the ring and pinion gear to be replaced as a set due to the helical gears' spline/tooth spacing. I've done it on a few bikes in the past, but it's not fun. Chains and sprockets are so much easier! Cheers! 👍 --QM

    Too bad that Honda, in all in wisdom and cheapskateness, did not put a high and low ranger in this new CT125 like the CT90 and CT110, that what made those great bikes.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 года назад

      Agreed! The dual-range transmission would have been a huge bonus on this bike. The CT125 is already underpowered compared to the Super Cub, and the lower gearing really hurts its on-road performance. The top speed difference is ~10 MPH between the two siblings. If the CT125 had the dual-range transmission, then we could up-gear the sprockets for better road speeds and still have the low range for tractoring around on the trails. 👍 --QM

    Thanks for the unbox and ride review. Just got mine on Sat. 12/5.....been waiting awhile..dealer says it's one of the few to make it to Florida (Mckibben Powersports, Winter Haven). Pretty impressed with this little "glowing red" Trail 125. My other bike is a BMW GSA 1150. This 125 will go places I can't with the big GS! Very impressed so far....thanks again for your vids.

      Thanks for the feedback, and congrats on your new CT125! I have lots of other bikes as well. I've been out on countless rides on my Yamaha XT250 when I encountered riders on big ADV bikes that were completely worn out from picking up their bikes in the woods. These smaller bikes have disadvantages for long highway trips, but they excel in off-road prowess... half of the size and weight allows you go lots of places that the big bikes can't (or shouldn't). The lower weight also reduces breakage for both man and machine. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

My first Honda inline-4 was a 1992 Nighthawk 750... not the same sweet sound as that small-bore 350, but still a great sounding bike. Cheers! 👍 --QM

I'll bet that the suspension and tires are better on the ADV150 for light off-road use than the PCX's for sure. Cheers! 👍 --QM

    I followed your Supercub series and was all set to purchase one - the apparent struggles with the tupperware to get access to the bike’s guts however put me off and I started looking at the CT125. A non Honda but Japan specialist bike importer here in the UK is bringing in a shipment of 25 units at the end of March. Not sure how they will cope with the engine emissions issue but the final price on the road is £4500 including the MSVA paperwork. I should have my Matt Fresco Brown delivered some time in June. Not sure what country spec they will be or what language the paperwork will be but fingers crossed
    I will be interested to hear more of the front brake conversion and am now researching possible conversions to tubeless rims. Not too many mountains in NW UK so this bike will be for road use - a possible change of front sprocket might therefore be on the cards
    All the best

      Thanks for the feedback! Good luck on your upcoming CT125. It's definitely a pain in the a$$ to remove the plastics on the new C125 Super Cub compared to the original ones. Those issues aside, the C125 Cub is a fantastic little bike. I have ~5000 miles on mine and I haven't had any trouble with it (forgiving a few little glitches that might have been my fault). I haven't ridden my CT125 much lately because I've been swamped with work. However, I'm planning to take the CT125 on a 200-300 mile road trip and motocamping adventure next weekend. I'll post a few updates for anyone who is interested in following along. Cheers! 👍 --QM

    Instead of trying to bend your foot down on the peg to get your toe under the shifter a lot of times when I wear different boots on my dirtbike I just pick my foot up off the peg completely point my foot down and then raise my knee up enough to where I can poke my toe down into the shifter and bang it up it all happens quickly and smoothly enough but the key is getting your foot off the peg and just jamming your toe under the shift lever with a quick upward yank I know that probably sounds confusing as hell when you read it but try it because sometimes adjusting the shift lever out of the stock position causes other issues.

    Thanks for showing the full price, makes me feel a littler better about the out the door price on the supercub ! Didn't realize it had a Kickstarter on it, I can confirm you can "bump-start" the supercub if the battery is too dead to turn over the motor with the starter, 4th year and a few good hand spins fires right to life, even in 32* F weather.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 года назад +1

      Great info on the bump starting the Super Cub! I figured that it was possible because I've accidentally hit the kill switch while rolling down the freeway a few times. Just click it back to run and the engine fires right back to life as if nothing happened. I haven't tried it with a dead (or disconnected) battery, so that's awesome! I've had many fuel-injected street bikes that just wouldn't fire because the fuel pump wasn't giving enough pressure to fire the injectors from a low-speed bump start. Cheers! 👍 --QM

      Thanks for the info! I already have a new set of OEM rubber lines for the Super Cub C125, and I"m waiting for the online parts catalogs to be updated with the CT125 so I can order a set of those as well. When I have both sets of OEM lines, I will send them out to a custom brake line fabricator to duplicate the OEM units (e.g. same lengths or slightly longer, identical fittings, bends, offsets, etc). I've ordered Galfer and Spiegler lines in the past that didn't match the originals closely enough and they caused fitment problems. I will definitely look up Apex in NY when I'm ready to do the upgrades! Cheers! 👍 --QM
