For those wanting to see obstructed views, I'll let you find them this year.
The audio's not great, my bad. Saw a red light on my external mic and thought it's battery had drained, so switched to the camera's internal mic - which ain't great - thus the common use of an external mic. Did what I could in post processing but there's still a lot of echo. Turns out, a solid red mic light means 10 hours of life left - so I coulda used it - but I'd though I'd probably already recorded an unknown amount of soundless vid - so opted for the switch. Happily this wasn't the case. If I were a professional I'd have a check list, which'd include charging the mic battery...

Perception can go either way (or some other way...) when high but yeah, whole lotta echo.
I even bought an audio plugin to try and cut the echo here - but no go. I'm certainly no audio expert, though 🤷♂️

I love how the judges handle the cats. Their movements are so sure, but quick, appraising the cats with a keen and critical eye. And it's always a joy to see Larry Adkison, he's my fave.😊

YES...the cats seem very calm and not stressed out. I'm sure they are all used to those "hoomans" rightfully adoring them lol. I'm very impressed how the main judge is holding the cats.
this has literally made my whole night. loved watching the judges & presenters handle the cats! very silly in places, but you can tell they're passionate about what they're doing :) helps that the cats are adorable too!

Oh, it's a reality. These judges, male & female, were once young and indeed judging cats, now they (and me) are older and I've not seen too many young judges appearing. I believe it is problem for them.
Overjoyed to see an Etonnant cat. I was able to attend the 2012 show in Columbus, OH; there I met the lovely woman who is part of the couple who owns Etonnant and was able to meet their Jack Frost whom they acquired from another cattery that brought his being a walking Turkish Angora breed standard into their bloodlines. Love that breed; had a gorgeous little black smoke that was strictly from pet lines but was all goofy TA personality--miss her every day.

@@xTunafishx Dog shows are much more interesting to watch. This one is boring. With the dogs, they get to run and I can see all different sizes. Also, it’s much more intense picking a winner and the judge has to pull and make them run around more

@@jaidensjungle2309 I wouldn't be so sure. Never forget the tale of Patches Maclanny, a (mostly) russian blue in the 1997 CFA Finals. An adopted prior street urchin that, with a bit of luck and plenty of heart, made it to 3rd place. Some say he only lost because of the flagrant nepotism that rocked the scene at the time.

Fast forward a few years; the Cincinnati Cat Club was having their annual show at a venue very close to my then-home nearby. I walked in and noticed a very dark cat in a judging cage in a ring by herself; looked 2 or 3 times, blinked, and thought "There is nooo wayyyy...." Turned out she was indeed not only a very high-grade black smoke Turkish Angora (she finished that year as National 3rd Best of Breed) but she was the granddaughter of that same blue-eyed white Jack Frost that I had met in Columbus.
For some reason, not Persian black smokes initially surprised me 👀
There's some shorthair breed (not remembering which right now) where the color even looked common/regular/unsurprising... 🤔
@@DougguoD Black Smokes will look different depending on the length and texture of their coats and how well those white roots show when the cat is moving, which is part of the definition of "smoke". Actually a cat of any color can be a smoke as long as it has those white roots under the other color(s). The Felis Gallery RUclips channel is done by a photographer that has a big houseful of colorful and intriguing Maine Coons including multiple black smokes. In some of his videos that show them walking you can see how the coat sort of flows as they move, especially on their fantastic tails, very well showing the white roots under the black. Check them out.

I am a dog owner and i was today years old when i knew there is such thing as a cat show
They were much more of a community event in the 60's - 70's
Yes, cat shows really were a community event - held at community centers, no less - and well attended.
Must be the most stressful experience for these cats
I always found the 1st day of school pretty stressful and then there's the whole work thing. Life isn't a catered service for most of us.
Like they can appreciate competition in the human-ego sense.

They are not sedated. No proper show would allow any mistreatment of the animals. The personality is important. If they are lashing out or defensive when the judges approach or handle them then they are certainly not show material and I imagine would be asked to leave. The owners are always with them. I've never heard of cat show abuse tbh

Dogs and cats are very different creatures.
From what I've seen the dogs do enjoy the various agility events a lot, perhaps less so the parading around events.
Cats vary a lot in enjoying or not cat shows. Kittens mostly like the attention and opportunities to play, adults mostly sleep (which is what pet cats are best at anyway 😁) though some are NOT happy with the sense there are other cats about (which is the main reason for having stewards spraying ring cages once a cat has left 🚿). And some really don't like the noise and the strange surrounds 😬

Show cats (and breed cats in general) are selectively bred for disposition - so they're *usually* more relaxed than your average moggie, let alone ferals. Of course, like life, exceptions do occur. I've seen some exceptions.

That was my usual reaction for quite some time, too - and I had Persians for many years.
The trend, in the last years I was recording these, I found other cats - even shorthairs! 👀 were winning. Dunno what changed but something seems to have, and I was surprised 😝

Cats are not suppose to be judged directly against each other, which makes sense as, say, Persians & Siamese are so different.
What's done is they are judged against a written breed standard.

I seen a video of some dude taking acid and going to a dog show on Vice and some dude told him that he like the dog shows better cause you find a lot more slimmer people there since they walk their dogs and all the cat owners are chunkier cause they dont take their cats out lmao

Most associations have HouseHold Pet categories - so yes, mixed breeds (and no breeds) can be shown.

Was going to guess Maine Coon - but I do have the catalog easily accessible and it says a household pet, which means no specific breed. I was wondering why I hadn't specified a breed when naming the cat, and I guess that's why 💡

Having lived with flat faced Persians for decades, I'd say generally no, with the caveats that upper respiratory infections are something to pay prompt attention to and feeding canned/raw food entails a bib or a very messy ruff.
Those women obviously don't have any problems eating!

Oddly enough that is sorta relevant. For many years CFA thought it was a great idea to have this show during the USofA Thanksgiving Weekend. So, max busy airports and hotels... last few years they changed it to October, which I expect works better for everyone.
Does anybody know if they declaw these cats?

Not that I've seen. Different breeds have different body standards. A Persian isn't going to have the body of an Oriental for example.

Exhibitors arrive rather earlier than I'd like, specially before coffee ☕ but it's not up to me.
And people can't just wander in with their cats, though I have seen that attempted 👀
ngl my natural bred mackarel tabby would easily win as she has wild desert cat dna and any imperfection (doubt there were any) where washed away with years of natural selection.
CFA are big on NOT wild cats (as in cat species). Moggies do have a class - Household Pets. The standard is pretty loose, of course.

Breed standard is what they are looking for not personality
So many of these cats are overweight. How are they in shows? Obesity isn’t healthy.

The no hair breeds do tend to have a pot belly as they radiate a lot of heat and compensate by eating more.
Lotta people say the opposite for breeds like Siamese, due mostly (I'm guessing) to unfamiliarity with breeds.
